Anyone else noticed an awful lot of cars on the roads today in comparison to recent days?

I was gonna pop out to the store as it's been 9 days in the house and I'm running low. But apparently some of the shops have lifted some of their limits. Think all those cars are going there to panic stock up again? Don't want caught in a cram.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/04/2020 15:25

Yes, I heard more cars leave our road today.

Autumnwindinthewillows · 01/04/2020 15:26

Very quiet here and Tesco had no queue (Manchester)

Grandmi · 01/04/2020 15:26

Yes I definitely noticed more traffic today whilst walking with doggie!!

MrsExpo · 01/04/2020 15:27

Not here .... like a ghost town to be honest. A few farm vehicles (we're quite rural) but only seen one person on my dog walk this afternoon.

I think the British public may well be getting to the F@£& it stage. Or, we are at the point where everyone needs to stock up again. I have to go out tomorrow - we're out of pretty much everything.

esjee · 01/04/2020 15:27

Yep, it was the same yesterday as well. People no longer seem to be taking it as seriously.

Titslikepicassos · 01/04/2020 15:28

Same here - we’re in a Hampshire hot spot, local hospital has declared a major incident but we’re still mingling down the seafront, more so today than the past five days, admittedly.

PickAChew · 01/04/2020 15:29

Cars about the same, here, but we had to do a lot more people dodging on our walk.

TheFlis12345 · 01/04/2020 15:30

A lot of companies started furlough for employees today, doing it on 1st makes it simpler from a tax point of view. DH and I plus several friends have all been WFH up until now but are off from today.

Sunflower20 · 01/04/2020 15:31

Major city here, busy on the roads yesterday and today. I counted 9 cars driving by my window within less than half a minute.

Titslikepicassos · 01/04/2020 15:32

It’s meant to be warm and sunny in the south on Sunday, can only see it getting busier as cabin fever sets in and the sun comes out

TinyMicrobe · 01/04/2020 15:32

Christ have they not seen today's death figures! Get back inside you idiots!

Feelingfestivenow · 01/04/2020 15:34

I needed to go food shopping today, nearest to me (I am rural) is an Lidl, car park almost empty, had plenty of stock in inc paracetamol/flour/pasta/huge amount of tinned tomatoes and the like.

People very quiet and really keeping distance, I tried to get some foil/clin film but there was a guy in the 'q' next to them so had to wait until he moved and he said thanks,

All very civilised, but still can only get 4 bottles of wine.......

Came straight home after and roads were very quiet, did notice a couple of petrol stations closed and after filling up my car over a week ago it was 1.08 ltr for fuel.

mencken · 01/04/2020 15:35

bustling and mingling are not good words in a pandemic.

outside yes, but are people really so thick as not to stay away from each other?

ShanghaiDiva · 01/04/2020 15:35

Roads quiet here, but more people out for a walk. However, I usually go out later in the day.
No groups, just couples and dog walkers.

HairyFloppins · 01/04/2020 15:38

I live next to a main road and it's still just as busy. The weekend should be fun. It's going to be nice and warm. Beaches and parks will be packed again. Boris gets his herd immunity I guess.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 01/04/2020 15:38

I have not seen much difference here (from my window) but I would say extra traffic may be owed to the fact it was pay day

TulipsInAVase · 01/04/2020 15:41

I haven't been out today but on a bike ride yesterday the roads through town were very quiet but the ones on the outskirts were quite busy. Also the relatively quieter roads seem to have led to some idiot driving, there were loads of cars obviously driving too fast in built up areas.

Doilooklikeatourist · 01/04/2020 15:45

Lots of tractors here , Farmers are always busy though, but no more cars on the roads ,
We saw an increase in traffic last Friday ( payday )

vanillandhoney · 01/04/2020 15:47

It's still deserted here. I walked the dog this morning and saw maybe four other people in total, and everyone was practising social distancing. It's actually really nice to see.

Over 500 people have died in the last 24h - how much higher does the death toll need to get before people will listen?!

Melroses · 01/04/2020 15:48

I live next to a main road and it's still just as busy

Same here.

pennylane83 · 01/04/2020 15:54

You've answered your own question really - we were put into lock down about 9 days ago so the likelihood is everyone else also needs to restock the cupboards given there are no delivery slots anywhere

XingMing · 01/04/2020 15:57

There were more people out exercising this morning as I walked the dog, but all keeping their distance from one another.

Sapphiresunrise · 01/04/2020 15:57

People are starting to get fed up I agree !

Fortyfifty · 01/04/2020 15:58

I've not been out properly for almost 2 weeks so I'm not sure what the greater town looks like. I've walked from my house and the amount of cars, and people are still scarce around me. My colleague had to go to a supermarket yesterday and said there was nothing in place to limit the amount of people in the shop and no-one was social distancing. I've got to go tomorrow, I'm in a different town, so I'll see what that's like.

saraclara · 01/04/2020 15:58

Nope. Still really quiet and no passing traffic at all where I am.
