Anyone else noticed an awful lot of cars on the roads today in comparison to recent days?

I was gonna pop out to the store as it's been 9 days in the house and I'm running low. But apparently some of the shops have lifted some of their limits. Think all those cars are going there to panic stock up again? Don't want caught in a cram.

Cabin Fever?

Fed up of being in?

FOR FUCK SAKE it’s been a week

Green shots will only shoot if people STAY HOME, else they’ll trample on the green shoots.

If people are going to ignore the ‘rules’ & the ‘spirit of the rules’ we’re fucked

Really - what does it take to make some people take this seriously????

GIVE the police the rights they thought they had & MORE. Closing off gathering places/busy places, road blokes whatever they’re up, let them crack on with it. Yes including idiots popping to the shop for a single chocolate bar.

STAY HOME - SAVE LIVES.

Hopefully any extra ‘busy’ you’re seeing is just people getting paid & shopping for necessities. 🤞🏼

It’s a few things I think.

The clarification from the government that it’s ok to drive a reasonable distance to exercise

It’s payday.

Mid-week shopping trips.

Yes it's definitely busier here. I think people have got fed-up of staying in. I was out walking my dog this morning and the traffic, although not as busy as normal, wasn't far off. And the petrol station was busy - it was deserted on Saturday.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 01/04/2020 16:04

Totally dead round here! Dh went to supermarket earlier and said the roads were empty.

Hoppinggreen · 01/04/2020 16:04

The usually very quiet woods at the back of my house we’re like Piccadilly Circus today.
Normally we don’t see anyone there but we kept having to avoid people to keep to the social distancing rules. The ducks are surrounded by bread and look very full!

Whattheduck · 01/04/2020 16:06

The roads are really quiet where I am.I can see the main village road ( in the distance) from my bedroom and usually it’s really busy but hardly any traffic even at peak times
I went to our local Sainsbury’s at 10.00 this morning went straight in it was very quiet got most things I wanted and went straight to the checkout no queuing at all.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 01/04/2020 16:07

Very quiet here, kind of eerie when there's barely any traffic on the roads

Lovemusic33 · 01/04/2020 16:08

I went out today for the first time in 2 weeks, didn’t see many people at all, drove to Lidl, there were only a handful of people shopping, was in and out in a few minutes, drove home and only really seen the bin men and a couple vans on the road.

MummyNeedsWineNow · 01/04/2020 16:10

Yes!! I was just thinking this earlier! Quite busy (well, compared to the last few days!) round here!

Sammymommy · 01/04/2020 16:17

I had just told myself that an hour ago. So it's not just me..

Alsohuman · 01/04/2020 16:23

It’s a lot quieter here than for the last couple of days, probably because the sun hasn’t made an appearance today.

sandragreen · 01/04/2020 16:26

Still very quiet here in my South Coast city.

I suspect it is because it is pay day OP

PickAChew · 01/04/2020 16:27

It's going to be warm up here on Sunday, too. Thankfully, our council has closed our beaches.

bigchris · 01/04/2020 16:28

dead here, think the death figures that just came out will keep it that way

ShellsAndSunrises · 01/04/2020 16:31

It’s not too bad here but the shops were supposed to be quite busy this morning, and it’s pay day.

I do think the UK will lose interest in staying in, especially if we get the expected heatwave. There seems to be so many people who just don’t think this will affect them. We’ve had roadblocks here all week, you can’t move without seeing the police, and there’s still groups of kids hanging round, people meeting other families in the park...

Although to be honest I’ve started to wonder whether it’s not that people don’t understand, it’s just that they don’t care. “I’m alright Jack” style.

I can’t blame the press conferences, I’m not sure most of the people going out and about will be watching them.

ifonly4 · 01/04/2020 16:31

Payday won't help. I hate to say it we'll see more footfall in the shops over the weekend (known as payday weekend) and more people will be ordering unnecessary stuff online from Amazon/other companies, all of which will put themselves and staff at an increased risk. I've promised Mum I'd do ours and her shopping tomorrow, wish I'd gone earlier in the week now.

Starlight2004 · 01/04/2020 16:34

Yes I said that to my husband as I was taking him to work, he is a key worker. Roads were busy in comparison to past few days.

petrocellihouse · 01/04/2020 16:34

Bar talking my dogs for a very early morning walk, I have managed to not go out for three weeks. However, I had to go shopping today as I was out of the essentials. I chose 3.00pm as a good time, reckoning that I would miss the early morning rush and then the rush when people finish work. How wrong I was! it was like a normal weekday shopping with my local Tesco very busy. I ended up in M&S as it was quieter, but I nearly fainted when I got to the till with the cost of my shop! And people have still NOT go the hang of social distancing. I was like a tubby ninja trying to avoid people in the aisles, who either hover around you, or try and cut in front to get something from a shelf.

LeggyLinda · 01/04/2020 16:35

It’s been considerably busier here since the lockdown began.

I think it’s because we are in a village and people are visiting from the towns thinking it will be quieter.
I was unable to get into our local grocery store today so chanced a trip to the supermarket in town which was eerily peaceful.

esjee · 01/04/2020 16:38

Tougher measures are needed at least for a couple of weeks because it needs driving home to people that this is still serious even if they can't be arsed anymore

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/04/2020 16:40

DH went out today because we were at the end of our fresh stuff and made deliveries to both sets of parents.

I dont think it’s people taking it less seriously, I think people are running out of food!

TheMamaYo · 01/04/2020 16:43

Some keyworkers have been warned that bigger lockdowns are imminent. It might be a small surge in getting ready for that?

Devlesko · 01/04/2020 16:43

If people are getting fed up and going out, they'll be the next wave in 3 weeks time.
This is the reason this won't peak until June.
Selfish arses.

SeaViewBliss · 01/04/2020 16:45

Definitely here - south east. I had to go to a work site visit today and there were a lot of people out. I guess some were just having their daily walk but definitely more cars.
