Anyone else noticed an awful lot of cars on the roads today in comparison to recent days?

I was gonna pop out to the store as it's been 9 days in the house and I'm running low. But apparently some of the shops have lifted some of their limits. Think all those cars are going there to panic stock up again? Don't want caught in a cram.

Wanderlust21 · 01/04/2020 14:49

Yes definitely and just been discussing it with a friend on the phone this morning

JustStayAtHome · 01/04/2020 14:54

its payday!!!

VinoEsmeralda · 01/04/2020 14:54

Nhs food parcels being delivered in my area which could explain the increased traffic?

Cassimin · 01/04/2020 14:55

Yes, I just mentioned it to my partner.

Wanderlust21 · 01/04/2020 14:55

It’s busy here. Park bustling, lots of cars on the road. Think lockdown fatigue must be kicking in...

catscatscatseverywhere · 01/04/2020 14:55

It’s not too bad near Leeds. I mean, I don’t go outside, but DP is a key worker and said motorways are really quiet

Wanderlust21 · 01/04/2020 14:56

Busier here. I think everyone is getting fed up with it all and going out more.

namechangemania · 01/04/2020 14:56

Busier here in the east too

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 01/04/2020 14:56

No

But yes it is payday

And the only place to spend money is the supermarket...

Was fine earlier though

Snorkelface · 01/04/2020 14:57

I noticed the a lot more cars last night and there were more people in the supermarket too at a time when it's previously been deserted. Payday could be reason for the supermarket.

Wanderlust21 · 01/04/2020 14:58

Ah yeah damn so it is.
Hmm maybe I'll take a walk along and if it looks too busy I'll just go home again lol.

I blame Professor Stephen Powis and his ridiculous mention of 'green shoots' 🤬

Kuponut · 01/04/2020 15:16

We had to run our cars out the other day just to make sure we weren't going to get flat batteries. Ran them a bit further than just to the supermarket and back to make sure they're OK (particularly DH's car which doesn't get used when he's not at work and will be back in mothballs for a couple of weeks now).

Tootletum · 01/04/2020 15:17

Nope dead here.

slipperywhensparticus · 01/04/2020 15:18

Yes my road is busier than normal cant all be key workers or they would be regulars who know the fucking SPEED LIMIT

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 01/04/2020 15:19

No not round here

Went to the PO to pay CT earlier . Didn't notice many cars but counted , in total (also went to Sainsbury local) 11 or so people , including myself. All of us keeping our distance.

HoneyBee03 · 01/04/2020 15:19

It's been in the news today that police cannot stop people from driving to a place to exercise, so I wonder if more cars are on the road as a result of that. In my local town the police set up road blocks to question every vehicle that came past, and apparently they've been told they cannot do that now either.

Kingcole · 01/04/2020 15:20

Yes very busy, cars going non stop up our road which is usually quiet.

emmathedilemma · 01/04/2020 15:20

Can't see a road and haven't been out but the streets have been busier with pedestrians when I've been out for an evening walk. It's practically impossible to do social distancing (am I supposed to stand in the middle of a main road while people pass??) so actually starting to think i'd be safer driving to somewhere quieter for my exercise!

HeyPizza · 01/04/2020 15:20

Yes, busy even with people taking a walk - much more than the last 2 days, and busier on the roads as well. Probably a combination of lockdown fatigue as mentioned above and the mixed messages from government (cautious optimism etc).

okiedokieme · 01/04/2020 15:23

Far busier today, I think the novelty of watching Netflix is wearing off. Lidl was particularly busy, people very friendly and chatty (not what the government wants!) staff chatty too.
