Suddenly really busy out...

Anyone else noticed an awful lot of cars on the roads today in comparison to recent days?

I was gonna pop out to the store as it's been 9 days in the house and I'm running low. But apparently some of the shops have lifted some of their limits. Think all those cars are going there to panic stock up again? Don't want caught in a cram.

PAY DAY...sorry.

People have some money again
And like you, they haven’t been out shopping for days

SHEESH !!!!!!

AngryPrincess · 01/04/2020 16:58

Like the Marie Celeste here.

rc22 · 01/04/2020 16:59

I went out to work yesterday. I am a teacher and it was the first day that I was on the key worker childcare rota so the first time I have had to go out in the morning since lockdown. I was really surprised at the number of cars on the road although I assumed it was key workers like me having to go to work. My husband has just had to go to the chemists to collect a prescription and said it seemed busier than it has been when we have been out previously for walks or to get shopping.

GatoradeMeBitch · 01/04/2020 17:04

Maybe heading to petrol stations? The news sites were warning of possible petrol shortages, which inevitably is going to make more people had out to fill their tanks. And then hey presto, petrol shortages!

The clarification from the government that it’s ok to drive a reasonable distance to exercise

Where so please?

exiledfromcornwall · 01/04/2020 17:05

Went to the supermarket today, thinking it would be quieter than nearer the weekend as we usually do, but was surprised at how busy it was, to the point where it was difficult to observe the 2m rule. On the way I noticed that there seemed to be a lot of people out and about both on foot an in cars, more than I was expecting. So it's not just you. Worried that with today's shocking number of new deaths, there might be a bigger crackdown for us all.

Waspnest · 01/04/2020 17:06

I think it's probably a pay day thing. Cashiers at ALDI and LIDL have told me in the past that they are always really busy after payday.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 01/04/2020 17:06

Well it’s pay day time of the month so it’s not a stretch of the imagination to think they’ve gone to buy supplies, with the dc off school food will be going quicker.

MulticolourMophead · 01/04/2020 17:07

I'm braving the shops in a few minutes. Not because it's payday, but because I've run out of a few essentials, I need milk and bread. Not planning to stockpile, I'm walking there deliberately to exercise as I shop and will only be buying what I can carry.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 01/04/2020 17:09

Cabin Fever?
Fed up of being in?
FOR FUCK SAKE it’s been a week

Glad it's not just me!

Most people spent their entire life in front of tv/phone/tablet/computer screens, parents wouldn't have dreamed not to use the car to bring the children to school down the road..
but suddenly a week on the sofa is a insult to their ancestors, a deprivation of their human right and apparently not physically or mentally possible.

The government should have done a lockdown years ago, that seems to cure laziness and over-eating!

Glittercandle · 01/04/2020 17:09

I just brought my bins in and noticed quite a lot of people walking to/from town - seemed really busy to me.

incognitomum · 01/04/2020 17:13

They've just said on bbc news that car use has gone up.

Hotwaterbottlelove · 01/04/2020 17:13

I realized this is off topic but I've never heard of people being pain on the 1st of the month!! What is this madness?!

Ricekrispie22 · 01/04/2020 17:15

I’m a teacher and have left work at 4 each day. Today was busier than Monday and yesterday.

PilatesPeach · 01/04/2020 17:15

yes, was out 7am and seemed like a normal rush hour - quite worrying

480Widdio · 01/04/2020 17:18

Yes,it has definitely been busier round here today,Just thought people were getting fed up of being in.

Yurona · 01/04/2020 17:18

Busy here - roads busy and carpark near the park is busy. No shops anywhere close to it, so its people with a deathwish

Thoughtlessinengland · 01/04/2020 17:20

Just been confirmed on daily government briefing that motor vehicle use had gone up on the graph and they said this concerns them

Fatted · 01/04/2020 17:21

DH said this today. He's taken the DC out for a walk every day and said it was busier than it had been today.

I think everyone who thought it would be fun to have a two week skive off work are getting a bit fed up now.

ProfessorPootle · 01/04/2020 17:23

We've had the opposite, there were tons of people out and about last week and beginning this week. Walked to GP surgery and passed about a hundred elderly couples and parents with toddlers out for a walk, crossed the road so many times it was ridiculous! Loads of buses, cars and vans driving past as well. This week walking dog is a lot quieter, see a couple of people when out for a walk, which was what it was like before lockdown on a normal day.

londonrach · 01/04/2020 17:24

No

mimbleandlittlemy · 01/04/2020 17:32

Been confirmed on the daily briefing - car use has gone up.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 01/04/2020 17:36

Ive not been out of the house for days...but judging by the amount of cars passing my house its still very quiet here

TheBitterBoy · 01/04/2020 17:38

I was surprised how busy it's been the last two days. I've been self isolating fir the last two weeks, went back to work yesterday. I finish at 2pm and was astounded how normal the amount of traffic seemed to be. Where are all these people going?

Caucasianchalkcircles · 01/04/2020 17:39

I live close to a bit of a local beauty spot/countryside. I've no issue with runners (do it myself) or cyclists but nearly every other person passing my house is running or cycling, often families cycling in groups of 4 or 5 on the pavement. Appreciate people need to get fresh air/exercise and obviously gyms are shut, but the number is unprecedented. Even on a sunny weekend it's not like this Confused I suspect many are using the time off work as an opportunity to get fit but why would you in a pandemic ? It adds to the feeling that it's like a bank holiday rather than a lockdown, which I supose it is if you're still being paid....
