Pls tell me parents are *not* playing this trick on their children

I’ve just seen reports on Twitter that some parents are telling their kids school has started again, seeing them get excited....and then telling them ‘april Fool!’ .....and videoing their distress and posting on Facebook for LOLS.

This is really upsetting me. I can’t believe people would be so cruel.

I am not sure I believe these stories. Has anyone seen these posts?

:(

Connie222 · 01/04/2020 15:57

@BeetrootRocks she sent the massage with “was I cruel lol” and I just messaged back “yes, you were”.

She didn’t reply. He’s a lovely little thing, it wasn’t fair.

MarshaBradyo · 01/04/2020 15:58

Idiots if true.

Maybe their company should do the same with anyone doing this who is losing their job.

Frigginella · 01/04/2020 16:01

Some of my DS’s friends parents did this and posted the photos on social media. Disgraceful

BeetrootRocks · 01/04/2020 16:05

Good for you Connie.

Poor little sod.

MartyrGuacamole · 01/04/2020 16:15

We went for a walk yesterday and on walking past her school building my 7yo burst into tears because she couldn't go back ☹️ she is plenty resilient, has moved house 7 times and country twice and is still struggling. I couldn't imagine telling her that school was back, then saying it was all a joke, it would break her heart. In my mind jokes aren't funny if they're at someone else's expense.

Notredamn · 01/04/2020 16:18

Imagine immortalising the moment your child finds out their parents are tossers on film.
Some kids might keep their chins up and laugh along but this stuff won't be forgotten. Dreadful.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/04/2020 17:46

Personally I’m glad that my children love school enough to miss it, despite the fact that they’re currently having a lovely time at home. They have wonderful friends and teachers there.

I was very close to commenting, “oh, poor thing!” on the video I saw, but held back.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/04/2020 17:46

VideoS I mean.

Wineandpyjamas · 01/04/2020 17:47

I’ll be looking forward to making a video of my daughters reaction when the schools are open again for real. She’ll be absolutely beside herself with joy.

She’s another one who would be devastated to be told this and then learn its a prank. But then she is only 5 and maybe older kids might be able to take it better? Thank god I haven’t seen any of these on my FB feed.

I think parents have to use knowledge of their kids with this sort of thing. Have an older child and know they’ll laugh and see through it? Fine. Have a younger child and tell them this then watch them cry their eyes out? Mean and cruel.

BrutusMcDogface · 01/04/2020 17:47

@capricorn12 - I bet you can still feel the absolutely crushing disappointment.....

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 01/04/2020 17:52

People are cruel to their children. Nutella prank, killer clown pranks etc. I think it's disgusting. An awful lot of people don't have any empathy.

Pipandmum · 01/04/2020 17:56

My daughter is very upset about school - and she is lucky that her school has a very good remote learning set up so she will have a proper summer term whether they physically go back or not. She would far rather be at school and would never forgive me if I did this to her.

Rosebel · 01/04/2020 18:08

I just can't get over parents making their children cry and laughing at them! How disturbing.

MarshaBradyo · 01/04/2020 18:43

And filming it. Nobheads.

Hopefully someone will return them the favour.

HasaDigaEebowai · 01/04/2020 18:46

On lighter note DS2 just completely got DH with a "There's a poo on the floor!" April fool (aka a muddy potato) Grin

MarshaBradyo · 01/04/2020 18:48

Hasa that is cuter 😆

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 01/04/2020 18:57

hasa that's cute because it is your DS playing the prank, not the adult who has all the power.

To the PP who was 'tricked' by "we've bought you a pony" I'm sorry, that's really sad (and I speak as someone who religiously entered the WHS win a pony for a year competition for years, only to find out many years later that DM never actually sent my entries off...)

Tiredandold1 · 01/04/2020 18:59

Pretend poo on the floor, funny. Tricking an unsuspecting littl’un - who trusts, relies on and looks up to you - for cheap laughs, not a bit funny.

BunnytheBee · 01/04/2020 19:01

I saw one on Facebook today. Old school friend I don’t see any more posted about April fooling her daughter, photo in her uniform, and saying she was so upset when she said it wasn’t true but apparently it was hilarious. She didn’t do the same to her son as apparently he would have been really upset. I thought it was a bit nasty.

RuffleCrow · 01/04/2020 19:03

That's horrible. But if MN has taught me anything it's that a surprising number of parents are just horrible, horrible people. Conception has no screening process.

HelpMeDrRanj · 01/04/2020 19:05

Yep, saw some on an NHS workers support group! In one of them both parents had their phones out filming, one child was happy and the other ran past looking like he was about to burst into tears. People thought it was hilarious that he threw his bag down looking 'angry' while both parents followed them, recording and laughing. Poor kids Sad how someone could think that's funny is beyond me

Rosebel · 01/04/2020 20:33

This is the sort of thing that makes me think some people shouldn't be parents. Having a joke is,only funny if everyone is laughing. My children probably would have cried if I said they were going back to school but I'm not spiteful to my children.

BeetrootRocks · 01/04/2020 22:31

OMFG I haven't looked at Facebook for ages so thought I could avoid all this... S friend in a different country just sent me a vid of this! Not her kid... She's been forwarding me stuff a lot to keep in touch, she does loads of charity etc work and is lovely...

What on earth is going on?

AnaphylacticAnnabelle · 01/04/2020 22:44

Several parents in my child's year WhatsApp group did this. Fucking awful- the sharing of the video is humiliating.

School is a child's daily focus. As (some) adults focus is work.

I liken this prank to someone losing their job and then someone in a trusted position eg the prior boss pranking it it wasn't true.
