Pls tell me parents are *not* playing this trick on their children

I’ve just seen reports on Twitter that some parents are telling their kids school has started again, seeing them get excited....and then telling them ‘april Fool!’ .....and videoing their distress and posting on Facebook for LOLS.

This is really upsetting me. I can’t believe people would be so cruel.

I am not sure I believe these stories. Has anyone seen these posts?

Do you think you can do whatever you like and say, "but I'm a parent"?

Nope. Obviously not. We wouldn't have child protection laws in place if that were true. An April fools joke though? Nah.

Later.

MarieQueenofScots · 01/04/2020 14:20

Super. No doubt your child will be very grateful for your thoughtfulness

Quite

Anyway, I'm off to spend some time with my children now

More general fun at their expense? I’m sure you will be enjoying it. Poor kids.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 01/04/2020 14:20

That's the one I saw, VeganCow, absolutely awful.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 01/04/2020 14:22

rollonoctober that's a good one! Too late for me for this year though.

megletthesecond · 01/04/2020 14:24

"Inner peace". Hmm

BeetrootRocks · 01/04/2020 14:27

'No doubt your child will be very grateful for your thoughtfulness'

Well they won't need to be grateful because I doubt the posters who think this awful behaviour are sitting their kids down and saying look at these videos/ some people have done this, aren't I lovely for not, aren't you lucky darling.

Oranly · 01/04/2020 14:29

Goodness you're good at making assumptions about other people aren't you. Seems to be the general problem on this thread. I'm teaching fyi. Suggest you do the same.

MarieQueenofScots · 01/04/2020 14:31

Suggest you do the same

Why on earth would I do that? Her teachers are doing that remotely. It would be the height of arrogance for me to interfere.

ThinkAboutItTomorrow · 01/04/2020 14:31

And DD who's 7 and was the one pranked just said it wish every day was April Fool, can we do it again tomorrow' so I'm struggling to feel guilty. 🤣

capricorn12 · 01/04/2020 14:34

When I was about 7 , my Dad woke me up on April fools day to tell me that he had bought me a horse ( which was what I wanted more than anything) I was so disappointed.
Mean parents are not a new thing.

JustinOtherdad · 01/04/2020 14:42

Some people are just cunts.

PumpkinP · 01/04/2020 14:43

Mine would be devastated school had started again so wouldn’t work on mine

BigSandyBalls2015 · 01/04/2020 14:45

Vegancow - I saw that one as well, people were going mad over it, sharing and saying how cute it was. I don't get it at all.

Apart from the fact that she was very distressed, wouldn't you be embarrassed that your tiny child was so invested in takeaways/junk.

Yester · 01/04/2020 14:49

Its cruel to video your kids crying and being upset and put it on Social media at any time. But I did this april fools joke on my DC. They are enjoying being at home and at 9, 13,14 are old enough to find it funny that they were "got" I would never have done it if I thought they would cry. They don't want to go to school and though missing mates we are on week 4 of isolation they are quite enjoying it all. They got me back with the old salt in me cuppa.

1980sQueen · 01/04/2020 14:50

No. No-one has actually done this in real life.
Who ever said they had was playing a sick April fool joke themselves.
It hasn't happened. Anywhere.

LastTrainEast · 01/04/2020 15:05

Laughing with someone is good. Setting it up laugh at someone is not.

Pranks are frequently a way to bully someone and get away with it. It's even safer to do it to a child.

My take on it was the mum (and / or dad) had created a fussy eater and this was her revenge for the kid refusing to eat her food. very sad.

Flaxmeadow · 01/04/2020 15:26

I hate practical jokes at the best of times, they're are basically about laughing at someone who is being publically humiliated. But this is beyond cruel and vile. Why would any parent deliberately upset a child like this. Scum

MummytoCSJH · 01/04/2020 15:29

How awful! My DS has also cried a few times and really misses his friends :(

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 01/04/2020 15:35

erm, KatherineJaneway you do realise that NO ONE sets out to create a fussy eater don't you? Some of us just have them...

huuskymam · 01/04/2020 15:37

I've seen a few of these videos, poor kids are devastated cause they thought they were going to see their friends. And the worst part is the parents opening laughing at them.

Connie222 · 01/04/2020 15:39

My friend sent me a video of doing this to her six year old this morning. He was so happy. Then his little face crumpled and he sobbed. Really fucking nasty thing to do and then to share the video thinking it was hilarious.

Rosebel · 01/04/2020 15:45

I don't know any people that nasty and spiteful thankfully. Why is funny to upset your children?
My husband loves jokes and can have a bit of a dark humour but when I told him about this even he thought it was disgusting. Absolutely nothing funny about upsetting your children and posting it on fb is just awful.

KatherineJaneway · 01/04/2020 15:50

Are you saying no fussy eaters are pandered to? I know some that are. Not all, some.

BeetrootRocks · 01/04/2020 15:50

Connie did you say anything? Like, I didn't find that funny, is he ok now

These are the sort of parents who will shout at the kids to stop crying, if they get really upset and don't stop quickly.
