Our human rights have been taken away

Soph7777 · 29/03/2020 23:40

I know it's for a good cause.

I know it's to save lives.

But our basic human rights have been taken from under us, in the short space of a week.

I find this part most of all the scariest.

I'm really struggling mentally with government control to this extent.

How long can this last before people lose their minds and rebel?

But you crack on with your delusion that the government is trying to control us. They are trying to control the virus.

Obviously I know this. However indirectly we are being controlled as a by product.

Im not suggesting this is come conspiracy just to control is so please don't put words into my mouth.

If I was prime minister I'd do the same thing.

Doesn't mean I like being on the receiving end of it.

So you can't think of a better solution, but want to complain anyway. Ok...

feefee322 · 30/03/2020 00:00

I'm with you @soph

We've already have Coronovirus! I just want to get back out and get on with living. Why can't those who have had it get a green pass like they do in China!!!

I'm so depressed

Soph7777 · 30/03/2020 00:00

@Fithles thank you so much.

I know - anyone would think I'm the devil for merely suggesting being confined to my house for six months is tough.

I really don't understand this forum sometimes.

I appreciate not everyone has to agree with me but people really go over the top with their comments sometimes.

"I feel the same. I worry we won't be given all our human rights back once this is all over."

You are worried you will not be allowed to go to work or leave the house for leisure? Are you taking the piss?

EasterElf · 30/03/2020 00:02

I agree OP. I understand that it’s necessary, I’m going to follow the rules. But I hate it and it’s frightening and I worry about whether we will ever get back to normal at the end of this.

MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour · 30/03/2020 00:02

I'm sorry, but

It still sucks. Am I really the only person that thinks this?
And
By product?

What!? No, we're all ecstatic. Hmm

eaglejulesk · 30/03/2020 00:03

Maybe you need to think about people other than yourself. I don't get how hard it is for the average person to stay at home as much as possible - we aren't locked in, we can still get supplies, we have many methods of staying in touch with others. People have got through far worse situations in the past - and in many parts of the world they deal with worse things all the time. Of course it's not ideal, but it has to be done and we all need to develop some resilience.

endofthelinefinally · 30/03/2020 00:03

A 55 year old hospital consultant has died today.
I just can't be bothered with people complaining about having to stay indoors.
Sad

coolwalking · 30/03/2020 00:03

Human rights are a government made up concept. They are not real and only exist because a GOVERNMENT lets them exist.

Stripeyfrog · 30/03/2020 00:04

*MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour

I really feel like I'm living in a movie that I didn't ask to be cast in.

How odd, I'm sure most people are really enjoying losing their jobs, income, freedom, holidays, relatives etc.*

I was thinking the same!!

feefee322 · 30/03/2020 00:04

I can't believe how fucking nasty people are on here!

It is horrendous but more people die from other causes every year. Including seasonal flu!!!!

I think it should be if you want to risk it you can carry on but you shouldn't be locked down.

Those who are high risk should stay home!!! Not us SadSadSad

Feel like I'm in a bad dream and I can't escape! Not even to Bali or the Maldives. Fml!!!

Also - ignore the cunts. This virus has brought out the worst in a lot of people, and mumsnet in particular is one of the nastiest sites on the internet these days. I hope you’re ok Flowers

Nollett · 30/03/2020 00:04

Just shared this guy on the other thread. Human Rights lawyer.

Our right to be unhappy about the restrictions of our freedoms is certainly being taken away by many on mumsnet.

It seems anyone who dares express disquiet, anxiety, distress about our loss of liberty is shot down. They are selfish, self centred, insensitive. As far as I'm aware, we are still allowed to have feelings. And hopefully, express them. Otherwise it's far more than our physical freedom we're losing.

yatapina · 30/03/2020 00:05

Agree with @Fithles, @Soph7777 try to limit your news intake - enjoy the freedom that you do have. Do you have a garden you could tend to our something to keep you busy when your anxiety strikes?

It's hard going for everyone, it's the silly little things that I miss and will appreciate most I've really struggled not being able to just drop into my mum's for a cuppa despite talking to her in the phone everyday. Is there something in particular that you are struggling with?

Right now, we need to work together to see this shit out!

Neveranynamesleft · 30/03/2020 00:05

Get a grip. Yes we are all entitled to this that and the other and whatever else you want to have rights about but its for everybody's safety. At the extreme we are talking life and death here , it's not difficult to understand. Suck it up and grow up.

BootShakin · 30/03/2020 00:05

Stripey, are you so stupid to understand that you could carry the virus without showing symptoms while infecting others??

Soph7777 · 30/03/2020 00:06

Oh ffs why do people keep comparing this to people worse off?

If we are constantly comparing ourselves to everyone else then I don't know why anyone struggles with mental health in this country as we are all far far better off than most countries.

I'm not asking for sympathy just really wanted to reach out for others that might feel the same.

Clearly I should have kept my thoughts to myself.

In the Black Death, they (town controllers) used to lock you in your house and keep the key.

In some places in Europe, you have to have a permit on you at all times. Wear a mask in public. Only allowed to leave the house at certain times. In China, people with the virus were forcibly taken into quarantine.

There has been an attack on our usual freedoms, I agree with this. It's obviously panicking you, whereas I have faith, perhaps misplaced, that this won't go on in the same form for a long amount of time, and that any 'extra' powers kept will be relinquished.

It is hard though OP, and you do suddenly realise how much of your life is outside your control- for example, if your electricity was cut off or the food not delivered to the supermarket. We are all extremely interconnected and dependent on each other and without the means to be self-sufficient we simply aren't fully in control of our lives.

Soontobe60 · 30/03/2020 00:06

What causes me the most anxiety is that people who believe that their human rights are being revoked, or will not do as they are being told because they are able to make their own choices, will make this whole situation much much worse.
I absolutely don't like being told what to do, but am more than prepared to follow the instructions of our experts and stay inside a school much as possible. Because I don't know better.

PepePig · 30/03/2020 00:07

I don't know how much longer I can carry on...

Reading these stupid, entitled threads. It's every bloody day on here. Always someone complaining about something to do with CV.

You are being asked to basically sit at home and watch tv. You aren't on the frontline, risking your life for, often, shit money. You aren't getting bombed. You aren't homeless. You have food to eat, a bed to sleep in, technology to amuse yourself with, money to spend...

I'm actually embarrassed to say I live in a country where people are going to "riot" because they can only go out once a day. Imagine actually living in poverty in a third world country. Imagine having no access to healthcare or education. But, no. We all have to listen to this overly dramatic tripe where people are complaining about their "human rights" being taken away, when it's literally a few weeks/months of being careful so we can save as many lives as possible.

I fucking despair.

coolwalking · 30/03/2020 00:07

@Soph7777 where do you think Human Rights came from?

Gettingo · 30/03/2020 00:08

Yes it's weird. Over 1500 people die every day in the UK just normally, but now we're having to suspend everything because of these Covid deaths, and how long for?
