Our human rights have been taken away

Soph7777 · 29/03/2020 23:40

I know it's for a good cause.

I know it's to save lives.

But our basic human rights have been taken from under us, in the short space of a week.

I find this part most of all the scariest.

I'm really struggling mentally with government control to this extent.

How long can this last before people lose their minds and rebel?

I wish all the idiots with their picnics and get togethers would be the ones to suffer.
I am so, so upset to read about the doctors and nurses who are sick and have died.
What about their human rights?

Giraffey1 · 29/03/2020 23:52

Home ... safe .... I so wish MN let me edit my bad typing!

fallfallfall · 29/03/2020 23:53

but you can leave your house, no one has soldered the lock shut. allowed for walks and could fully enjoy your own backyard should you have one. you can even continue to work from home if your work permits.
for once the world is "kind of" working together, that's a good thing. for once there's a little less talk about escalating pollution, that's a good thing.

LongDiscoClara · 29/03/2020 23:53

If you wish to keep living then you are being asked to stay in your house for a few weeks, its not a huge ask.

Idontmattertoher · 29/03/2020 23:53

Well, if the proverbial human rights disappeared BEFORE the preverbial bog roll then you're not being unreasonable, however...

Notcontent · 29/03/2020 23:53

What are you on about? Irrespective of whether you like or hate the current government, one thing is certain - we don’t live in a dictatorship and this is not some weird plan to control people for no reason. There is a PANDEMIC and we are building field hospitals. Do you get that OP?

Sparklfairy · 29/03/2020 23:53

What about my human right to not get infected by selfish entitled twats that, like stroppy teenagers, can't bear to be told what to do?

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 29/03/2020 23:53

Wow, are you even capable of sympathy? 'People die and that's sad but what about meeeeeeeeeee?!'

Patchworkpatty · 29/03/2020 23:54

So what would YOU do OP - if you were the prime minister?

ChipotleBlessing · 29/03/2020 23:54

I think maybe your ego is stuck at the development of a two year old. You’re not the star of a movie here. You’re not unique in not liking to be controlled or restricted.

BeetrootRocks · 29/03/2020 23:54

Till October though (could be shorter, I suspect longer) is a massive thing which will have huge consequences.

Soph7777 · 29/03/2020 23:54

If I was prime minister I'd do the same thing.

Doesn't mean I like being on the receiving end of it.

OP posts:
cowfacemonkey · 29/03/2020 23:56

Everyone is struggling with this. Stop seeing yourself as someone special who is somehow more affected than others because you just such a free spirit who can't bear restrictions. Perhaps give your head a wobble and think about those who have died and all those that will die tonight, tomorrow and the day after.

ChipotleBlessing · 29/03/2020 23:56

We live in a democracy and the leader of her majesty’s loyal opposition is about to be a top quality human rights lawyer. In addition to which the current government has strong libertarian instincts. I don’t think they’ll be only letting us out of the house once a day forever.

endofthelinefinally · 29/03/2020 23:56

So tired of people complaining what about me,me,me.
So much selfishness, everywhere.

ARoseInHarlem · 29/03/2020 23:56

Your human right to roam freely

vs

My human right to not catch what might be a deadly disease for me.

Human right don’t exist in a vacuum. We are none of us anything without the people around us, good and bad.

If you want immutable human rights, total freedom, you’ll need to live in an island by yourself. This truth is being brought into focus by SI. It’s always existed. You don’t need to think very king or hard to understand this.

TheArchSorcererofContwaraburg · 29/03/2020 23:56

I really feel like I'm living in a movie that I didn't ask to be cast in.

Does your ma know you're using her MN account to post? Although, my teenager wouldn't even dream of such melodrama.

Crafting1Queen · 29/03/2020 23:56
Biscuit
RaininSummer · 29/03/2020 23:56

Well I kind of hope that anyone who decides rioting is a good idea at present gets dealt with very firmly by armed police. We can do without selfish idiots right now.

mellymoop · 29/03/2020 23:56

I agree. I don't know how much longer this can carry on.

MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour · 29/03/2020 23:57

It's attitudes like this that make me afraid to leave the house. I am so, so careful now, about everything. I have spent enough of my life struggling to breathe & I'm terrified of this virus. But you crack on with your delusion that the government is trying to control us. They are trying to control the virus.

Soph7777 · 29/03/2020 23:57

@ChipotleBlessing I didn't say I was unique. When did I say that?

I'm purely expressing that being confined is tough.

Before anyone starts I know there could be much more tough situations but that doesn't mean I can't be upset about this?

If that's the case then let's never ever complain about anything. That would be unrealistic .

I think when I'm confined to my house the next 6 months it's reasonable to be unhappy.

Doesn't mean I have a better solution for this pandemic because I don't. I think it's the right think to do.

It still sucks. Am I really the only person that thinks this?

endofthelinefinally · 29/03/2020 23:58

Will you feel the same if it is your partner, your child, your parent who dies? Or will you blame the government for not enforcing the lock down hard enough?

Fithles · 29/03/2020 23:58

This is not AIBU. OP is clearly struggling with how she is feeling about the current situation and is getting an absolute pounding.

I'm sure harsh criticism and being called 'part of the problem' is really going to help her get her head round this and feel more sorted. Hmm

Well done to everyone who piled in, polish those haloes for being so damn sorted.

OP try thinking one day at a time and focus on the things you can control. Also limit news exposure. We will come out of the other side of this but sometimes the bigger picture is too big. Look away for now.

CuppaZa · 29/03/2020 23:59

Please tell us which human rights have you had taken away OP?

Are you hoping someone will start a rebellion? Do you plan on joining in if they do?
