Until June?!

Iv read today that these strict rules will be in place until June.

I’m going to go insane before then. How are people going to manage? Surely it can’t be that long? China didn’t take that long ?

My anxiety is so bloody high 😩

I think it will be until June at the earliest. It’s going to drive the majority of us completely insane

How will the country actually manage? Surely people are going to die from this, and not from the virus.

I fear it may be June. They have told people with health conditions to shield till June. I think they thought there would be anarchy if we were asked to follow these rules for that long so they’re saying it will be reviewed in 3 weeks. I suspect they will then say we have to do another 3, then another 3 potentially with stricter rules. I can’t bare the thought of it either, we are all going to have to find a way to manage 🙁

I'm so bored right now. In a tiny two bed flat with 3 children.
I don't know how this can go on until june.

Suicide rates will likely go up a lot.
And once all this is over we have a terrible recession to look forward to with job cuts, high taxes and general misery. I’m trying to be positive but finding it impossible at the moment

Sorry to be harsh but I think we're all going to have to grow a bit of backbone and just get through this. It is hard. This is an unprecedented situation. We're going to have to do everything we can to focus on the end goal here which is to flatten the curve, reducing the pressure on the NHS and cling onto the positives. Even if the only positives are that we're not being bombed, we're not being asked to seperate from our children and we have food (supermarkets don't appear to have shortages as of yet). We have access to the Internet! An endless source of knowledge. We can read. We can write. We can facetime family and loved ones.

We need to do this to save lives. We need to keep distancing for as long as it takes, this virus won’t go away for a long time (IMO) I think Christmas will be mainly cancelled this year, no gatherings, no parties, no markets. It would be disaster in the winter as this virus isn’t going anywhere. If they have any sense December will be locked down.

The only way I can see it, or I think I will have a breakdown, is they have said June, so when we get out earlier we can all celebrate and feel like we with the government's help accomplish something amazing together.
I cannot contemplate anything else.
I hate the lack of being able to control what I do and when I do it or what will happen. I feel physically sick today. I know it's daft, but I suffer with MH issues and have been well for many years but this is making it all hit like a brick again. I can barely speak.

The vast majority of us have a roof over our heads, some form of food on the table (albeit slightly different to what we are used to), and haven't been separated from our immediate family.

Anyone that has access to Mumsnet is privileged, like it or not. If you have access to the internet, you're better off than millions of others. Let's count our blessings people.

Yes 9 weeks makes sense enough time to reach the peak and then go down before having some social distancing measures in place for a couple more months

We need to be a bit kinder to people and not tell them to grow a backbone. I really think some people here don’t understand how this will be affecting people with mental health issues. I dont have any. I still feel awful and I’m struggling to just get in with it.

I agree with @mintandcoral. This isn't going to be quick. We need to take it day by day and try not to worry about the total length of time it may end up being. DH and I run a small company so lots of worries there but we're trying to focus on the kids and not look too much at the big picture. Yes, this will be of major significance until a vaccine arrives so the next 12+ months, potentially relaxing the rules and then locking down again each time there is an increase in cases.

China didn’t take that long?

China welded people's doors shut so they would be left to die in their homes.

There are reasons why it will take longer here than China. Be grateful for that.

@backaftera2yearbreak I’ve MH problems. Been stable for a good long while now. Been in isolation nearly 2 weeks and mentally I’m going to pieces. I’m struggling to keep hold of reality, struggling to remember this won’t last forever. What scares me more is how rapidly my mental stability deteriorated

I think it’s extremely unlikely we’ll be back to anywhere near normal in June. I don’t think schools will be open and I don’t think we’ll have moved away from social distancing.

I can’t imagine what your going through, I’m sorry. Do you ave any kind of a support network?

Apparently China has 5 million less cell phones online. I wonder why?

I think we need to stop comparing the UK to China, they cannot be trusted - even the tests they've sent to Spain are useless.

Cellphones drop off all the time, especially in a population as big as China.

If China were trying a coverup, they would take the phones and leave them plugged in.

It's an immensely difficult time. Not helpful to tell people to toughen up - am sure they've thought of that themselves.

Hopefully not- at some point there comes a stage where we have to balance the interests of the vulnerable against those of the majority.

For me, the current lockdown is as far as we should go- the vulnerable should be protected, but I don’t believe it is fair to ask everyone else to give up all their liberties and pleasures for a long period to extend the lives of people who will in all likelihood die in the next year anyway of other causes.

We will also reach a stage where the lockdown will cost more lives than it saves. We need to get to a stage where the vulnerable are shielded and everyone else is able to live as normal while taking precautions.

There are 20,000 deaths from flu each year and almost no attention at all is paid to this.

@mintandcoral has it right. We need to count our blessings and pray that we all get through this.

I think it’s harsh saying to grow a back bone. People suffering massively with mental health.

My problem isn’t even not being able to go out because I don’t do that much anyway, it’s the unknown. Not knowing what’s happening and being out of control.

I work with adults with have disabilities and they are really struggling. They don’t know what’s happening and why their routine has been messed up.

Around 1/3 of the population are vulnerable
They will NOT die in the next year anyway
