I actually do think some people are getting hysterical over this. In my part of London people are staying home, supermarkets have implemented social distancing/limits on people in shops (even our local shops do this) and if out exercising then people are maintaining a good distance.
We are capable of making rational decisions. If an elderly person decides walking daily to the newsagent for a paper is essential and they are aware of the risks to themselves, then so be it. As long as they are not socially mixing with other households, then the risk is to themselves (very poor form calling them cunts).
I am concerned at the scaremongering some Mumsnetters are encouraging all over Mumsnet. In reality some people (including Derbyshire police) are frothing at the mouth about people daring to leave their houses at all. I read somewhere (the independent maybe?) calls to police were up with twitchy neighbours snitching on people they thought were out exercising too often. A single person taking a 9km bike ride isn't placing anyone at risk (mentioned upthread). Please don't go on about vanishingly rare accidents etc etc as a retort.
I think there may be some further restrictions. But I do struggle to see how much more can be brought in. We are not a police state. I honestly think exercising outside (dare I say it, even further afield from your home) is not, in reality the issue here. International travel is an issue though and the flights into the UK should be stopped IMO.
I want to say, before people get jumpy, we have all stayed at home. Minimal trips to shops and no visits to family etc. DH working from home and kids obviously off school.
