Just that really. Ban exercise? Just shopping/work? Curfews? My mind can't comprehend staying indoors for days at a time. I will go mad.

*I hope it gets tougher. Every day I see the same elderly people tottering off to the shop and coming back carrying a paper.

And the local Facebook buy and sell sites are busier than ever, along with people going to B&Q to buy paint etc.

Selfish selfish cunts.*

B and Q aren’t open except for click and collect for essential supplies, plumbing, electrics etc.

Calling old people selfish cunts for walking to what remains open as an essential shop to buy what might be their only means of obtaining news and information is despicable.

Totalitarianism has arrived and its taken less than a month.

PatchworkElmer · 29/03/2020 12:14

Put it this way, I haven’t signed up for an April virtual running challenge yet- I’m not convinced that we won’t be told that we can’t exercise outside any more.

Flaxmeadow · 29/03/2020 12:20

It does feel that way sometimes but what is the alternative? The virus is so contagious that if nothing is done and large numbers of people require invasive medical treatment all at once then the NHS would collapse. Not sure what else can be done

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 12:20

Blondiney · 29/03/2020 12:27

The stasi took less than a week to get its act together

Right? That's almost as scary to me as the fucking virus itself.

CathyandHeathcliff · 29/03/2020 12:28

I won’t be able to cope if they stop people leave the house for exercise. One walk a day with my very active toddler has been helping. We don’t have a garden.

housemdwaswrong · 29/03/2020 12:28

Diodes anyone have any idea of how total lockdown works on a praxtical level?

Sho you need permission before leaving, or evidence to take with you to say where you're going? Is it just pharmacy you can leave for, but how would I evidence that when my scriptis online etc? How can they stop people going to the supermarket every day?

I don't what this would look like. Sorry, probably being thick, but anyone have any experience?

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 12:29

Blondiney it's changed my view of this country completely. Didn't realise we had so many bitter people who love to catastrophise and judge.

Isn't calling people bitter and the stasi also judging people?

I'm guilty of it myself Blush but we all need to stop bickering

middleager · 29/03/2020 12:35

Builders, non essential businesses and tube travel are three areas to explore first.
Many people are still travelling into work because employers will not facilitate home working still.

Shopping every 3 days - my neighbour nips out every day for the paper.

DIY and garden centres to trade online only.

All takeaways closed.

blue25 · 29/03/2020 12:37

Can only exercise 200m from home. Have to have evidence (letter/email) that you are picking up medicine/ food orders. Police/army patrolling and stopping people.

Ylvamoon · 29/03/2020 12:40

So, in my neighbourhood everyone seems to be adhering to the rules... but I did venture out food shopping yesterday and was shocked to see a barber's & jeweller open and several small groups of youth hanging around, while driving through the town centre.
I don't mind them getting tough on people like that... but be lenient on the law abiding areas of any town or city.

Italy has been under lockdown for nearly a month, cases still soaring. You've got to ask the question does this really work

cologne4711 · 29/03/2020 12:45

My nextdoor neighbour had a house party last night

How would banning outside exercise prevent this?

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 12:47

Italy has been under lockdown for nearly a month, cases still soaring. You've got to ask the question does this really work i don't think it works to do anything other than to make people feel a bit more in control.

cologne4711 · 29/03/2020 12:47

my neighbour nips out every day for the paper

then they'll have to stop paper papers being produced every day. Not much good producing something you then stop people buying. We have a subscription to the Times with vouchers but have only got it three days this week. Mainly because I feel awkward about the paper vouchers though, not because of going out to get it.

midgebabe · 29/03/2020 12:48

Actually Italy does look like it's starting to flatten.
Especially in the areas that locked down first

cologne4711 · 29/03/2020 12:48

Every day I see the same elderly people tottering off to the shop and coming back carrying a paper

I am unclear about why this is selfish. You are allowed out once a day for exercise, you may as well get the paper while you are out.

Siameasy · 29/03/2020 12:56

Loads of non essential businesses are still open. Homebase and Halfords are. I get that they sell some essential things so maybe they could streamline the way they’re doing things. Otherwise it encourages browsers. Building sites are open still. I reckon public sector could send more non-key staff home.

Lllot5 · 29/03/2020 13:06

@cologne4711 because every time you go out you increase your risk. If you exercise in your on keeping your distance is one thing, but going to a shop touching the paper, the shelf, pin machine, or money, being in close contact with people this increases your risk.

Baboomtsk · 29/03/2020 13:11

@cologne4711 the point is that you inevitably come into closer contact with people when going into a shop than if you were just walking outside. That's why the advice says you are to shop as infrequently as possible.

Otherwise you are unnecessarily increasing the risk of catching it spreading the virus.

Serenschintte · 29/03/2020 13:12

Look at what’s happening in Italy and Spain - especially Madrid. Also France. Much stricter.

Bonkerz · 29/03/2020 13:15

I've got to go out tomorrow and buy food. I have to leave my 9/14 year old home alone. I haven't left the house for 10 days now and the thought terrifies me.
