Just that really. Ban exercise? Just shopping/work? Curfews? My mind can't comprehend staying indoors for days at a time. I will go mad.

OP posts:
ScribblingMilly · 29/03/2020 11:23

The article was in The Sunday Times today, I should have said.

Daisiest · 29/03/2020 11:24

I hope it gets tougher. Every day I see the same elderly people tottering off to the shop and coming back carrying a paper.

And the local Facebook buy and sell sites are busier than ever, along with people going to B&Q to buy paint etc.

Selfish selfish cunts.

TreeTopTim · 29/03/2020 11:26

Where I live I have seen a lot more police patrolling.

I am just about coping with the lockdown as it is. I need fresh air and exercise to help keep my mental health in check. Just about everyone in my street is complying, even the idiots across the road are staying indoors.

However when I am out walking I see so many people driving around like idiots, speeding, not stopping at junctions and roundabouts.

playthestation · 29/03/2020 11:28

Banning gathering at funerals is what I think will be next

This has already been done.

Pelleas · 29/03/2020 11:29

Bumbling Bojo loves the phrase 'level with you'!

Pulppixies · 29/03/2020 11:33

playthestation

You can still have 10 people there, I think.

hopeishere · 29/03/2020 11:37

Letter of authorisation to go shopping
Exercise within a certain distance of your home
Places like B&Q closed
Online deliveries stopped

JudyCoolibar · 29/03/2020 11:39

Round us, I get the distinct impression that traffic levels are picking up again. Is it the same elsewhere?

BeijingBikini · 29/03/2020 11:39

I don't necessarily think restriction will get tougher but I reckon they might crack out the Army to enforce the restrictions we already have.

playthestation · 29/03/2020 11:43

You can still have 10 people there, I think.

It must be dependent on size. Our local crem is letting 20 people in but that includes the undertakers etc.

BeijingBikini · 29/03/2020 11:43

Thing is, we won't see the effects of this lockdown for another three weeks - the deaths we're seeing today were "baked in" 3 weeks ago. So it doesn't really make sense to equate the increased death rate today with people flouting restrictions today, and increase restrictions on that basis. That's nonsense science.

Flaxmeadow · 29/03/2020 11:46

Yes the same as other countries and as a previous poster says
Carry a letter with time you left the house, reason why and the time they intend to return
Restrictions on distance from the house for exercise

BTW do the people saying ' look a curtain twitcher' not get irony? Grin

TheOtherSideOfTheMountain · 29/03/2020 11:52

Those letters you carry are a bit nonsensical though, aren't they - you just fill them out for yourself as/when needed. Not ideal for anyone who doesnt have a printer or ink though.

littlemixarerubbish · 29/03/2020 11:53

@BeijingBikini yes that's right. Infection rates and deaths now need to be considered as happening pre-lockdown. I hope people understand this as otherwise they'll see lockdown as pointless and may flout it.

I think being allowed outside due a short period is absolutely vital for our mental health. I'm a keyworker and cycle to work. Although I'd rather be able to WFH so as to reduce the risk to my family, cycling several times a week is wonderful. However, on my way home I ride through a country park that still has large groups of kids playing football, bunches of teens etc. I go past groups of grown men chatting together nowhere near over a metre apart.

If this situation had happened at any point in my childhood I'm not sure I would have got through it. My family situation was absolutely awful and I only every felt safe and normal when I was outside my home.

I wish people would just follow the bloody rules to stop the rest of us paying the price for them not doing so. Sad

iVampire · 29/03/2020 11:57

Banning exercise

Dog walking with 50m of your front door only (to allow for toileting)

Need to print and fill out a form detailing your reasons for being out of the house every time you go out (fines if caught lying on the form, though the actual effectiveness of this measure is to get people to pause and think about whether they need to go out)

Banning groups and pairs in public - unless it is parent accompanying DC on essential matter

Flaxmeadow · 29/03/2020 11:59

I think people have been using their phone as well?

I think the point of them is that the police, or someone in authority, can check them in the street, then if they see the same person twice on the same day but breaking the rules by being out twice, then I suppose they would fine them.

Just going by what I've seen Italian friends post about it

dottiedodah · 29/03/2020 11:59

Well ATM me and the dog are going for a walk once a day .Not driving there! We have mowed the lawn /cleared the garden and are playing ball out there instead of a 2nd walk .We are lucky we have a big garden and can walk to the Common ,or a long tree lined Avenue with wide pavements too.If we are locked down more severely ,then we will be out in the garden only.Hopefully it doesnt come to that .I have managed to go out once a week only for food and have bread/ milk in the freezer .Still seen some older people out shopping though!Surely the main point of lockdowns is to rid us of the blasted virus ASAP so with some inconvience short term for disease free long term?

Hippofrog · 29/03/2020 12:02

Said this on another thread but I think Christmas will be mainly cancelled this year, no gatherings, no parties, no markets. It would be disaster in the winter as this virus isn’t going anywhere. If they have any sense December will be locked down completely

emmathedilemma · 29/03/2020 12:03

Ireland have just restricted people to exercise within a 2km radius of home. Which to be fair, is further than a lot of people ever walk!

browzingss · 29/03/2020 12:03

When do you think we will reach the peak?

maddy68 · 29/03/2020 12:03

My family live in Spain. They are only allowed out to the supermarket and they are fined heavily for breaches all non essential working is banned. This is what we need to do here

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 12:03

I don't think they will ban exercise or dog walking to the intense disappointment of many on here

I imagine it will be huge fines and more businesses closed.

Tonyaster · 29/03/2020 12:04

It isn't working in Spain though.

IrenetheQuaint · 29/03/2020 12:07

They need to enforce the existing rules and cut down on employers forcing non-key workers to come in, rather than issue even more rules.

Frouby · 29/03/2020 12:07

There are still non essential businesses open, building sites and manufacturing etc. They would need to close those first I think before they out stricter measures on the moving about for exercise. Though if they close non essential business it will drastically reduce vehicles out and about and be easier for the police to spot check that they few vehicles out are for a legitimate reason.
