The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

I just ordered hair colour from Amazon, if anyone tells me it's not an essential I might just lamp them one.

longearedbat · 29/03/2020 20:25

Imagine my delight the other morning when the doorbell went (I was still in my pj's) and I opened it to find my virgin wines delivery - 16 bottles of white wine. I'm a happy bunny. Of course, I should be grateful I've got tap water and be happy with that, according to some.
I didn't clap. I think it's patronising and a cop out. 'I clapped, therefore I care. You didn't clap, so you dont'. Also people were letting off bloody fireworks. Why? My dog certainly didn't thank you. There is now a thing on our local 'spotted' facebook site about shining torches in the air or some such. How well will these things work if it's pissing with rain or blowing a gale?

CousinKrispy · 29/03/2020 21:42

Thank you for this thread.

Especially thank you for the tale of Charlie!!

Relieved to see there are others who aren't impressed by the shaming of those not giving claps for carers to show off their compassion to the neighborhood. I hope they're all donating to the crowdfunder for PPE for NHS staff too.

@NewYearNewJob123

That's what a lot of the MN neostasi don't get. Telling someone on here they're a potential murderer or a selfish fuck for buying hot cross buns or mascara with their shop for 'essentials'

That was my thread and I was the hot cross bun murderer. I asked Mumsnet to delete it earlier as one person had posted so much untrue info (as you’ll know since you were there). Plus had turned it into a crusade to call out anyone who left the house even once as being responsible for her being under lockdown for 12 weeks. Went onto why should anyone else be allowed to exercise when I’m not allowed to

I like the fact that Mumsnet listed the reason it was removed as it has turned into a bun fight, made me laugh a bit Grin

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 30/03/2020 00:12

Apparently not adhering to made up conditions (arbitrary decisions of only leave the house once a week/day and how ling the exercise should take, what form,in what kind of clothes etc) means you are depriving others of their right to life.

The extra few seconds it took me to buy them led to other people gathering outside (an empty supermarket) and meant that my Coronavirus (potentially) germs had more time to spread

middleager · 30/03/2020 00:18

Thanks bring
I need wine.
For everybody who reckons their DC's sniffle must have been cv.
If so, then why didn't the rest of the house get it when it is highly likely this would happen, according to CMO?

Rant over.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 30/03/2020 00:20

They're not even that nice Grin

The buns not the people.

Here is another Facebook inaccurate post. Of course it’s sad anyone should die. But this is just stupid. I have some intelligent friends sharing this shit 🤦‍♀️

Why can't any of the people starting up these thing spell correctly?

I love the last bit ‘copied from another post’. If this post really existed why not just share the original if you believe it’s accurate.

Facebook used to be about connecting with family and old friends. Now it’s how many shares or likes you can get

Unfortunately the Coronavirus has amplified that massively into look at me posts. On my local forum someone got hounded out for asking if a local supermarket had compost, she tried to explain while her son was off school she thought they’d pick up some whilst shopping and grow some tomatoes

WingingItSince1973 · 30/03/2020 01:19

Thank you for this thread 🤣🤣🥰😘😘😘

Yes some of it is innacurate but unfortunately some of it is also true

Blakes77 · 30/03/2020 01:56

Oh and let's not forget the friggin crusaders who think they are hero's for campaigning to shut down any family takeaway that dares remain open.
Yep. Otherwise known as my family's living. Wot a load of heroes.
Also, it's a bit easier to be a stay at home hero when you live in a nice big house with a lovely garden and quiet neighbours. What about people trapped in tower blocks with asbo neighbours? But obviously, if those people go for a walk in the park for their sanity they are MURDERERS.
There is just such a refusal to accept that not everyone's home is a nice place to be 24/7! Or, actually, not a refusal to believe, more an opportunity to be smug and sanctimonious no matter what.

Blakes77 · 30/03/2020 01:59

Oh, put my name down for a Spanish soldier please. Or 3. Stockpiling!

Flaxmeadow · 30/03/2020 02:05

What about people trapped in tower blocks with asbo neighbours? But obviously, if those people go for a walk in the park for their sanity they are MURDERERS.

But the asbo neighbours will also be in the park won't they

I've lived in tower blocks in rough areas and I can tell you a lot people (not the asbo ones) in those places will welcome stricter regulations. I know I would if I still lived in a tower block

Blakes77 · 30/03/2020 02:12

No, the asbo neighbours will be playing loud music all night and smoking skunk outside the flats. They are not going to jogging round the feckin park.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 30/03/2020 02:12

Can we have a separate thread for requesting a Spanish soldier, is there a waiting list? I’m thinking there should be priority given to those most in need? I may start a Facebook group to organise this 😂

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 30/03/2020 02:14

Sadly due to panic marrying and hunk stockpiling, the rations of Spanish soldiers are running low. Only one per customer, on a first come first served basis , while stocks lasts .

OP posts:
Thepigeonsarecoming · 30/03/2020 02:23

Shouldn’t there be priority listings for them though? Special hours for viewing and marrying for those most at need? We need to work together as a country to supply them

I’m a hero like that, I’ll sacrifice getting one myself if Ethel down the road does!!
