The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

SmileyClare · 30/03/2020 08:50

Ha ha @ panic marrying soldiers Grin

mpsw · 30/03/2020 08:54

Some of us prepped and are already married in to the military - I don't think you can count it as panic buying when it occurred decades ago.

Though I suppose some people might say its morally no different to panic-buying, even though it cannot possibly have impacted on current supply

SmileyClare · 30/03/2020 08:54

I see you got told off PrincessConsuela Please remember that you are not allowed to make jokes or laugh during a lockdown Wink

Personally, my life is in tatters, I'll never recover financially from this, I'm worried and anxious, but have found some light relief in this thread.

SmileyClare · 30/03/2020 08:56

With regards to the Spanish soldiers when I was about 16 we went on a school trip to Spain - one of the educational outings was to a tank factory. We were less than impressed until we got there and found that it was part of a military base and home to around 250 Spanish soldiers!
We escaped our teachers for long enough for “arrangements” to be made for meeting up later - that was some holiday. Probably only eclipsed by our post A level girls holiday to Greece where we found that our hotel was opposite an American army base.

TheGreatWave · 30/03/2020 10:18

Bloody hell, one spouse is enough, I won't be stock piling them.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 30/03/2020 10:20

I had a friend tell me the other day, that the mortuary in the hospital was so over flowing, they are having to open the local ice rink to use as an extra mortuary, and that people are dying in the corridors of the hospital. At this point there had only been 6 recorded deaths in the whole of Scotland, but I was to take that as gospel because she has a family member who works in the hospital. Little does she know, I have another friend who works in there too who told me it's deserted 🤔

SmileyClare · 30/03/2020 10:32

Suddenly lots of people on Facebook have inside knowledge because their friend's daughter heard her neighbour telling their friend. Confused

Hoppinggreen that sounds like an educational school trip Grin I'm sure you learned a lot about er tanks.

Hoppinggreen · 30/03/2020 10:37

smiley our Spanish teacher was a game old bird - I think she knew exactly how interested we would be in “ tanks”

Blakes77 · 30/03/2020 10:41

Blakes77 · 30/03/2020 10:42

Wait, we have to marry the Spanish soldiers??
I have changed my mind. I selflessly donate mine to my delightful neighbours.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 30/03/2020 10:49

Yeah I will have a Spanish soldier for one night. Then I am done.

SeperatedSwans · 30/03/2020 10:53

I've come here because a friend of a friend with a dog called Matilda, who's aunty works in MI5 said there's soldiers going free to good homes? I'll take one 🤣

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 30/03/2020 11:27

Yeah I will have a Spanish soldier for one night. Then I am done.

Just don't bin him, that would be wasteful. We don't want our landfills full of Spanish soldiers now, would we?

The park near near where I used to live was full of gangs dealing drugs. Women had also been sexually assaulted and raped in there.

Not really a joking matter
