The rise in the hero complex

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 28/03/2020 17:08

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

definitely an arsehole then. You keep doing what you are, you sound efficient and very good at your job and ignore the interfering dumbass. We'll be here to support, swear at him, maybe even put a curse or two

100%! I have been known to call him names in email. At the bottom and turn the text white so he cant see it. Oddly makes me feel better even though he doesnt know it's there Grin

At least now I only have to speak to him, not see him staring from his office trying to catch someone doing something they shouldnt! Though I imagine him lurking on Microsoft teams seeing who is logged on. Grin

Well I'm officially on holiday, but it somehow lost it's lustre. I used to live for half terms/school holidays. Woke up this morning meh, same shit different week just no requirement to do courses or anything. Might keep up with them though as they were good at passing a few hours.

Princess
I like a bit of colour too. I am ok once I get started its just the thought!
We moved here late 2018, no bloody choice, and the HA should have been ashamed at the state it was in. Living room is done and all bedrooms were stripped and have new lining paper on them thanks to 2 friends who worked like trojans to help me before we moved in. DS2's bedroom is painted now but neither mine nor ds1's is done. I had to get a large wardrobe for my room as absolutely no storage in this damm house. I am saving up to get a new smaller bed before I even attempt to do my room. DS1 is just hopeless at painting (and a lazy teen!) so his room can wait until he gets off his arse.
Bathroom is tiny and awful, so thought its a good time to strip it back to the bare walls and redo. Layers of paper came off and there are huge cracks where walls meet, holes in the walls etc to be filled before I put lining paper up. Good thing is I got a voucher from HA to get paint etc so have all that already. Fancied shades of green for the bathroom but put on the wood one yesterday and OMG its dayglo green! Nothing like the colour on the website! Am going to try another coat on the little bit I did to see how it looked yesterday, it is really thin, streaky paint, so hopefully it will settle down with another coat and put some of the pale green wall paint on bare wall to see if they are ok together. I might end up just doing the skirting boards and round the door frame in the bright green and just keep the rest of the woodwork white and freshen it up. The day something goes right for me first time will be a bloody miracle. Grin
I dont even want to think about the awful colour on the kitchen walls that sucks the light out the room nor the stairs. I think I will get my usual local decorators in at some point if I ever save up enough Grin

We've had turquoise, yellow, red, purple, various shades of blue, fuchsia and god knows what else throughout the years. Plus glitter and glow in the dark paint.

This last time ended up with 3 different shades of grey though(that are actually different!!) and a purple that looked nice in the tin but in real life was a mix of lavender and a bad acid trip.

Even my storage cupboards are painted.

We have one single white wall in the bedroom because we have awful issues with damp and mould (think furniture falling apart, damp patches and taking clothes out from the back of the wardrobes with mould starting to grow on them). So we bought this stupidly expensive damp proof, mould proof, isolating paint that only comes in white for the worst wall. I'm afraid to move the furniture to check if it worked though.

Princess we had mould at times in another house and got the anti-mould paint it didnt work sorry maybe yours is a better quality one

I had lilac/pink staircase, shades of blue, lilac bathroom oveer the years, kids room was bright too, tiny hallway a light yellow to lighten it up Love a bit of colour. I draw the line at glitter though. Every wallpaper in this house had glitter, and was black! 1980s beige flowery paper in parts of the bathroom with white glitter paint on every other wall! Uuuugggg!

The green has got to go. Its just too much in your face neon green! Doesnt go with the lovely pale soft green I have for the walls. Angry

Oh no. What about a pale pink?

In my defence the glitter (and glow in the dark paint) is in DD's wall. Since she doesn't have a room to herself she got one wall to do whatever she wanted to.

I don’t know that Australia has gone the doorstep happy clappy thing, but it has been suggested that on ANZAC Day we all stand at the end of our driveways (or doorsteps), and observe a minute’s silence in lieu of the Dawn Service.

I live rurally. If I stand in silence in my driveway at 6am, it will be dark and there’s no-one can see me anyway. I’m not sure this one has been thought through.

Hmmmmmm...thats an idea.
Maybe try for a deeper sage sort of green more in line with the wall green just for accents.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 06/04/2020 13:14

If you clap but there's no fb post about have you even clapped?

Dance you could claim you were silent the whole day, complete with thoughtful/remorseful/contemplating the meaning of life (btw it's 42) selfies. You could sooo win this!

No...never happened. Grin

Smilethoyourheartisbreaking hope you are ok. I am actually missing the house of the primary school across the road.

I have read some great posts today. And because if this thread, instead of getting annoyed I have been laughing my head off.

Some who uses potatoes instead of bread and cheese instead of milk Hmm, insists people people dont need bread or milk because she chooses to go without.

Someone else said staying in more means you have more moral fibre.

Posts are just getting batshit. But at least I can laugh. X

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 06/04/2020 14:45

@Smilethoyourheartisbreaking I hope you're ok. That sounds lovely. We had a little impromptu karaoke session yesterday when a neighbour played a song both me and DD love. We joined in, and then the top floor kids came out and sang too. It was so bad but oh so good.

Well this is going to blow your minds..... guess what the latest doorstep craze is where I live?

A professional photographer coming to your house, taking an arty farty black and white photo of you and the family stood on your doorstep and then you get to post it all over social media!!

Isn't that just spit in your crotch fantastic?

HmmHmm

How the hell does cheese work in coffee?
Potato sandwich anyone?
its an epidemic of lunacy.
Better not tell her that I am dragging the kids out for a walk later and will swing by the shop for milk and bread and if they have any....squirty cream and caramel sauce so I can pretend I am in Cafe Nero with my free caramelatte Grin She will spontneously combust!

Sounds lovely Smile just a simple nice thing to do with a huge impact on other people.
FrangipaniBlue WTAF next? I despair.

cantata · 06/04/2020 15:31

@PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock Have you been on MN for many years? This thread is reminding me of ghost threads from the past (in a very, very good way).

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 06/04/2020 15:34

@cantata I've been here since 2016, so still a newbie really. I do name change quite a lot though as you can tell I'm an over sharer.Grin

2016? Then you are a newbie nobdie, @PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock Grin

I think you still deserve a MNRoyalty crown and lifetime quiche membership, though.

Not least for reminding me of what was good about MN in 1880 2003.

SmileyClare · 06/04/2020 17:10

Some of our neighbours put Let It Go on last night and starting enthusiastically singing along.
I'm afraid I didn't join in and shut all my windows.

How on earth can cheese replace milk? What is this madness. Cheese on cereal? In tea? I can't think of any examples.
I can't bloody afford to substitute milk for cheese. Confused

shit hope your day improved. Nothing worse than an incompetent boss who gets off on Bossing.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 06/04/2020 17:37

Hoping your day got better shits and that you are done or nearly done.

GrumpyMug2 · 06/04/2020 17:53

Well I had a day where my zoom calls cut out every ten mins. My internet is useless and is not stable even when plugged into Ethernet. Never mind.

Updated my sign.

@shit sorry to hear about your shit boss. I recommend fashioning a voodoo doll, out of potatoes ofc. Is that allowed?
