The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

Maybe we should have donated that defective Spanish Policeman for the cause?Wink

BatshitCrazyWoman · 05/04/2020 16:47

Not one single clap here. I was engrossed in Four in a Bed at 3 pm Blush

Shitsgettingcrazy · 05/04/2020 16:56

The kids were all clap free here....thank god!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 05/04/2020 17:10

I think the new thread should stay in the Coronavirus zone. We are still talking about it just in a more supportive way rather than attacking each other

I’d hate to not be able to mention how I’m feeling or vent any frustrations in case I get told off for mentioning a banned word!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 05/04/2020 17:10

Clap free kids here also 😂

Jourdain11 · 05/04/2020 17:18

My daughter played God Save the Queen on her recorder. I saw a cat shoot off down the street.....

TheGreatWave · 05/04/2020 17:22

Well we went for a family walk. I had to sternly tell the 14 year old off for lying on the ground sunbathing, she challenged this saying that she was wearing a hoodie and therefore not actually sunbathing.

I await my fine. Blush

GrumpyMug2 · 05/04/2020 17:22

I updated my window sign. It now reads "Day 601: Ate tinned chicken curry for breakfast"

My eldest avoids sunlight/days wherever possible, no chance he has the clap!

How totally unreasonable of you to carry out a non essential murder in these times How do you know it was non essential?

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/04/2020 17:57

There is recorder practice on the time table set by the school. For everyone's sake I'm pretending it's not there.

I'm feeling confused; I retired in January, and was just getting used to getting up later and going out for a wander, or bus ride using my free bus pass. Now it's all change again. My DH is self isolating, so I take the dogs out as my exercise, then stay indoors. We don't have kids, so it's quiet-just the 2 of us.

Arghh the local facebook group is ranting, raving and pitchforking about the warm weather and people "swarming" demanding once again stricter lockdown, police, army, beatings like in India and "if they went out they have no right to childcare". Tried to explain that there were barely any people at the local "hot spot" and whomever was there stayed within shouting distance. Nope,I'm wrong because the papers said so. They haven't been out or when they have they haven't really seen that many people either but the papers said so. Bunch of fucking morons.

That's the brimming with "thousands" field featured in the paper and the pitch fork post.

I just ordered a bird food holder and bird food in order to repurpose my now defunct swing ball set. Although I could touch the food and then the birds eat it and get it on their wings and then they become super spreaders. I'm off to self-flagelate

SmileyClare · 05/04/2020 19:04

Agree the papers are sensationalising all the "swarms" in parks. Everybody has been flocking I'm reading that a lot.

Sorry but very entertained by all the swing ball related epic fails. Winner goes to the poor ball-less one. Grin

Now no one knows what's going on with the clapping. Who are we clapping for? When? I've started clapping every time I put something in my outside bin for fear of being berated by neighbours.

Twerk for the teachers is a step too far.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/04/2020 19:08

Come on Clare surely you can manage one little twerk for me even if I'm just a TA.Grin

SmileyClare · 05/04/2020 19:09

Love the swing ball /bird feeding station idea. GrumpMug perhaps you could self flagelate with the swing ball racket to continue the recycling theme? Wink

Ok one little twerk then. Just slipping into some gold hot pants.
I'm now suffering from doorstep guilt because of all this organised stuff.
