The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

Ah yes I remember the bloody light saber years. Or as I call them Lampshade smashers. Sending you strength Grin

I mowed the back lawn yesterday so I could put up our old swingball (fun, fresh air and exercise for the teens). I interrupted Their Call of Duty game to announce the swing ball idea and was met with Hmm faces.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/04/2020 11:08

Ohh can you show us the throw banana ?

Our only crafty projects have been the sock cock, a failed pompom(oh yeah I managed to do one) and some lollypop stick bridges that made OH swear, DD glue her fingers together and me give myself hot glue burns.
Then the cat stepped on two of them and broke them. DD hid hers in the bathtub.Grin

Cant show the throw I never took a pic, and seriously visited about 3000 online shops. Think I found a similar one on etsy.
It was a linen nautical blue and white stripe throw. Really nothing fancy about it. Like a really thick cotton blanket.
The buying one problem was the size, I found a lot similar but not big enough for a king size bed. Or the material was wrong. I have pets, so cashmere isnt going to cut the mustard and donegal wool really isnt going to work when it may need washing daily.
And those giant knit blankets, well just no.

My bastard puzzle, at least it looks like something now. We had a whole week of just the sides and an ear.

I've had to finally admit that the reason shit wasn't done around the house wasn't because we didn't have time, it's because we're lazy bastards. I'm learning to live with it.
Ha ha here too!
But in my defence i soend so much time yelling at teens to move and do something there isnt time for anything else!

Update I have tidied garden, cleaned trampoline and son is now hosing down garden. Both of us are selfishly breathing out there

ilovecherries · 05/04/2020 13:57

I set up the swing ball. Then DH reminded me that the last time it was used DD was 12 and she broke his nose and knocked out his dental implant with her bat, necessitating a trip to A&E as it wouldn't stop bleeding, and then several expensive dental visits. Possibly not the best idea at the moment.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/04/2020 14:11

Ah but it kinda appeals to my inner rebel to have this oasis of sanity and madness right in the middle of "them".Grin

I found our old swing ball set. Put it in ground, DS hit the ball once and then the ball fell off.

Princess my aunt loves a jigsaw puzzle and got a new one where all the pieces were the same shape/size, lovely wintery/Xmassy picture. We all tried to help, drove us all batty, after 2 months she gave up and gave it to a friend who has never been beaten by jigsaw ever....she swore at her 2 weeks later! Its finally finished but its not 100% correct, a lot of the bits look exactly the same but after you have put them in where they look perfect and go back later, they are 'wrong'. Angry There are 2 bits that just dont go anywhere! Never again!
Good luck!

Bananabixfloof · 05/04/2020 14:37

Love this thread - my people!!

The frothers on other threads and, OMG, the ones on my local FB group were enraging me. I've got to the stage where I'm laughing at their ridiculous 'IT'S NOT ALOUD (sic)!!!!!! WHAT PART OF STAY AT HOME DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND YOUR (sic) A MURDERER!!!!!!!!!!' responses to every fucking thing.

Nothing amusing to add, but am WFH and live alone, I'm sure madness isn't that far away ....

GrumpyMug2 · 05/04/2020 15:11

Welcome @batshitcrazywoman!

Blakes77 · 05/04/2020 15:35

Willow that's my excuse too. All the shouting uses up all my energy and that's why my house is a tip!
Although I have spent all morning raging on another thread. I'm bored now, going to force DC's to play Scrabble. Rude words are allowed.
Jealous of all the lovely baked goods.EnvyCake And I'm reporting you for frivolous use of flour.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/04/2020 15:44

Oh my God I have found my people.
My neighbours seem to be treating the clap for key workers thing a lot like the 2 minute hate in 1984.
Also...gutted I have missed the Spanish soldiers....

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 05/04/2020 15:50

Trying to get DD a bike since OH is at home and can teach her. I can't ride a bike so don't understand the mechanicsGrin.
