The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

This is the thread for me! Thank goodness. People on local social media are doing my head in.

There's the shouldn't go for a walk or run for more than 20 mins brigade, but apparently all runners are selfish and should run in the middle of the road so sad if they are squashed and the people who are buying random shit up and then offering it out on fb for the 'old people' while wearing saintly hashtags.

Our local aid group are a safe guarding disaster in the making.

I've taken to setting my strava to private and running in and out of our estate from different directions so no one can time me. We've not been to the shops for three weeks (at risk group), but ate all our treat stuff, so my ever growing shopping/wish list looks like an alcoholic chocolate binge party in the planning. We have to go shopping. We'll be forced to eat healthy stuff otherwise.

Someone in my next door app just got skates for asking if decorators are still working

GrumpyMug2 · 02/04/2020 20:53

Slated not skates!

I've seen a lot of The indignant You are not ALOUD!! comments lately. The spelling grates on me as much as the "ripping others to shreds on social media because I'm ANGRY" hobby some people are partaking in.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 02/04/2020 21:40

I can forgive many things including breathing, cake making, wine drinking. Even the occasional delivery of non essential stuff .

But exposing us to that grammar Grumpy? What were you thinking?

Ahhhhh!!!!

I missed my fecking claps!! Wondered what all that racket was outside Grin just finished my second shift as a FRONTLINE NHS keyworker.
I'm bloody knackered and I've seen.... Things

I'll catch those claps next week Grin

GrumpyMug2 · 02/04/2020 21:59

Sorry @PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock

I posted this back

I think wayfinding to DYI tutorials and online deliveries/offering up paint etc should be welcome. Helping people overcome this lockdown is more helpful. Lets all consider everyone's mental health please and pull together

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 02/04/2020 21:59

Clap for grey! Clap for Grey!!

Well done you, how is it going so far?
And uhmm..what have you seen?

Have a clap on the back from me GreySparkles Smile

Greysparkles · 02/04/2020 22:09

Got to say I'm loving it, such a community feel at the hospital, like a giant family.
I think we should definately donate some soldiers their way....preferably not the herpes riddled ones, although they'd have to be covered in PPE so we could possibly use non STD italian substitutes 🤔

I've seen real life covid patients, it's incredibly sad, and incredibly scary. But all the staff are so amazing! They all deserve the claps! Grin

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 02/04/2020 22:29

That's great that you settled in and have formed a connection already. Hang in there, stay safe . I could probably get a batch of Romanian soldiers in .Grin

Well I went to take the rubbish out, some twat sat in his car honking (for NHS I assume) shouted at me to show some fucking respect. I took great pleasure to tell him to show some respect by staying the fuck home, since he doesn't live in the flats

Brilliant. Well done.

In my experience nurses are very good at breaking soldiers.

But then they send them to us physios so go ahead WinkGrin

Came across my first DIY footpath closed sign today. We live very very rurally and there are only 2 properties between mine and the gate and I am confident the sign was not placed by either of them.

I ignored it, a little while later a guy came along with his son, read then sign, then comedy style hurdled the main gate rather than going through the 'prohibited' kissing gate. It made me chuckle!

We have one on a tree outside. "Please park and stay 2m away from the tree".

It makes me giggle every time i go past it. Poor quarantined tree. I'll see if i can get a pic tomorrow since you know, it's an unnecessary 5 steps away from the house.

TheGreatWave · 02/04/2020 23:18

Princess I feel better now that I have your permission to just hate everyone. Grin

Anyway I must sleep, hopefully a skip will be arranged tomorrow, so a busy day ahead.

Willow2017 · 02/04/2020 23:20

Well done Princess the fecking idiot!
Poor tree go give it a hug Princess.do it in the dark so nobody sees you OUTSIDE😲😲😲

👏 from me Grey. I didnt sleep much last night and of course fell asleep sbout 7.45 this pm watching tv and woke at 8.20! wont mention i did exactly the same last week 😶 But never heard anything noisy enough to wake me up so dont know if anyone was outside.

Putting signs on things thst arent anything to do with you? Wtf next?

UYScuti · 02/04/2020 23:22

Love this policeman, shame though that neighbours reported a woman dancing with her cat, and shock/horror looking like she was having fun!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 03/04/2020 03:28

Oh and the sock police are now active telling police they should darn their children’s socks.

A poster stated they hadn’t been out for a month but asking if supermarkets still sold them so could combine with a normal shop

Thepigeonsarecoming · 03/04/2020 04:13

Telling people not police...

Shitsgettingcrazy · 03/04/2020 05:50

Darn your own socks?

Out of what? How?

I can imagine my boss would love that 'wow shits, I kept you on to help keep the company together so theres something for us all to come back......but I am so impressed you arent doing your job. You are, instead, spending days darning socks instead of throwing them in with your shopping. You are the real hero in the pandemic'

.......and then everybody clapped......for me.....and my socks!
