The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

princess, everyone of you piratesses, you are saving this particular, highly unimportant, life...thank you ...

Shitsgettingcrazy · 03/04/2020 09:05

Fucking hell.

On the thread about buying socks with your normal shop, one poster has decided to use a thread where the ops husband has died, to berate people.....for buying non essentials. Claiming everyone is encouraging her to just go out sock shopping.

It's amazing how many of these 'heroes' are actually quite awful human beings.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 03/04/2020 09:06

Shits did you use a sock puppet for the boss? Grin

isabellerossignol · 03/04/2020 09:09

Whoever is getting roasted about darning socks instead of buying them should come straight back with 'does anyone know if there are any haberdasheries open? I need to buy a darning needle, thread and a darning mushroom because I'm not allowed to buy socks'

Shitsgettingcrazy · 03/04/2020 09:16

Shitsdid you use a sock puppet for the boss?

No just my hand, pretending there was a sock puppet. I cant darn.....and not worth seeing buttons on a sock....given we cant buy new ones Wink

@isabellerossignol ah but all the oh so clever people who saw this coming 20 years ago have a well stock haberdashery under their stairs. For those if us that havent spent years sticking up or learning how to make clothes.....we must go bare foot.....and eventually naked.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 03/04/2020 09:17

stocking not sticking.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 03/04/2020 09:57

Me naked would be more terrifying and possibly deadly than corona.

I'm doing everyone a service by being fully clothed.Grin

Damn laptop keeps crashing, got a shitload of stuff that i need to send into work... arghhhhhh

Magic are currently playing Madonna Holiday - I cant quite decide if this is hilarious or in extremely bad taste (which makes it even more hilarious!) ConfusedGrin

SmileyClare · 03/04/2020 13:07

We must all go bare foot and eventually naked

I did notice that the clothing department in our Tescos was empty. I think people are scared to venture over there to grab a t shirt for fear of being pointed at by a jeering mob crying "not essential" "she's a witch" and so on.

Sorry for anyone stressed to the eyeballs with wfh. Received a message from Universal Credit today "if you do not phone us today to make an appointment then your online application is cancelled" How???? How can I phone them, the call just cuts off. Every. Fucking. time. arghhh. Starting to hate Rishi Sunak's face when he says reassuring things about government help on the tv.

Anyway sympathies to anyone having a mini breakdown today for whatever reason Brew

SmileyClare · 03/04/2020 13:10

I think that old 80's classic I'm Living in a Box might be more apt. Perhaps Magic will do a phone in taking requests for appropriate lockdown tunes.

Petting the poor quarantined tree. Hand bleached, boiled and disinfected appropriately before and after.

Let's all take a moment to think of the tree.

FrangipaniBlue · 03/04/2020 13:43

Ooooh Princess you absolute rebel!!!!

Willow2017 · 03/04/2020 14:12

Who knew trees were behind Covid 19? You learn something new every day.
We need an axe wielding mob after all🤣🤣

bringthegin · 03/04/2020 14:21

Just checking in.. is the tree in social isolation...maybe you should talk it, at the appropriate distance of course.

bringthegin · 03/04/2020 14:21

Talk to it, not talk it

Loving this thread

I'm doing some frivolous baking, but it's DH's birthday
Can I claim mitigating circumstances? Smile

Also I'm potting up seeds for May. Does that mitigate the baking or am I now officially a twat? Smile

SmileyClare · 03/04/2020 16:09

I think you're only a twat/hero of the pandemic if you bash people with your baked goods crying Why are going out for food you selfish arsehole, I make mine from scratch.

If not you're fine Wink

FredWinnie · 03/04/2020 16:14

...bash people with your baked goods crying Why are going out for food you selfish arsehole, I make mine from scratch...

That made me laugh out loud

Willow2017 · 03/04/2020 16:20

I did that last week for ds's birthday but I self flagellated myself for half an hour after I finished decorating it with all that 'unecessary' chocolate!
Ooh the shame! I probably killed several people making that cake dont you know?

[passes the blood stained whip to Fred ]

I tried to train the cat today with a hoola hoop and cat treats. We're out of treats. Is shopping for them necessary now as I don't want to miss out on all the progress made?Grin

Yes.. I'm finally losing it.

OP posts:
Willow2017 · 03/04/2020 17:01

A well trained cat is imperative Princess you can train it to go get you rabbits and birds and eat like a king when everyone else is fighting over common pasta!

(And if its trained its less likely to eat you if you run out of cat food!)

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 03/04/2020 17:12

Having a well deserved nap. Hoop jumping is hard work, even if it's touching the ground.Grin
