The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

Tbh, I don't give a toss what other people do with their sourdough😂😯
I'm ashamed to say I've been known to neglect mine and I'm planning on making crumpets and pancakes with it this week 😱

Thanks for the soldier, smile, can I lick him if I promise to bleach him immediately before and afterwards? Wink

Your post made me grin, shits, so thanks...your nickname combined with autocorrect changing gloater to floater made me chuckle (my autocorrect did the same thing to me!).

Really sorry you're in the same boat, frangi and everyone, but.....

can we please remember the 2m rule and keep our distances from one another. If anyone gets too close I'll have no problem pushing them overboard (got to live up to the 'SE are monsters' theme, after all)HmmWink

Shitsgettingcrazy · 02/04/2020 17:07

Read that as licking and was ready to sharpen the pitchfork and light the torch.

My spelling has already caused confusion on this thread, I surprised it doesnt say licking 😂

To be fair, gloaters are floaters Grin

So we have cake, licking soldiers, some impressive hoards of alcohol, I'm so tempted to order a take away....I'm now the devil incarnate.....

bringthegin · 02/04/2020 17:10

Or maybe we all are, maybe we rename the board as the Devils corner 😇😇😇

Willow2017 · 02/04/2020 17:14

Just checking in.
[Flowers] and 🍰🍸to everyone worried about finances at the moment and those dealing with the fuckwits of this world. I am.so glad i dont do FB apart from selling groups and school etc. I would spontaneously combust reading some of the crap i have seen on here! although i might check and see if anyone is delivering cake

Its all right for gov to twitter on about helping people out but its not in the least clear how its going to help everyone out or if it will meet everyones needs.

Survived work despite nearly freezing to death in an old freezer on the pc all day!
Its wine o clock as far as i am concerned before i do tea. Quick curry to heat me up😀

Hi to the new folks. How very dare you go ^outside^ ???? And stay out for longer than 4.78 minutes unless you are bleaching the pavements with a toothbrush. How extremely selfish of you and stop that breathing all over the world shit right now! Heads up, Do not mention this nonsense on any other part of Mn they will 'send the boys round' and beat the living shit out of you! Honestly dont you understand the rules according to MN self appointed saving the world warriors?
I despair! Pearls will fly!!!

(And no nobody i know is flaunting the guidelines on purpose we are just getting on with life as best we can in the circumstances.)

bringthegin · 02/04/2020 17:23

@Willow2017 Argh I better not answer the door this evening then; well unless it's a Spanish soldier or my pizza delivery.

Mind you they have to get past the drawbridge, the moat and the crates of gin first 😇

Shitsgettingcrazy · 02/04/2020 17:31

I really wanted a chinese takeaway last night.

Alas, all the ones I like, have closed.

@Willow2017 & I had their hot cookies......douses oneself with sanitiser and walks over hot coals to pay for my crimes

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 02/04/2020 18:48

bringonthegin princess virtues parents sounds great and definitely have their priorities right. You're a star, a real one, not the twatty virtual signallers doing it all for their instagram and Facebook feeds.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 02/04/2020 19:02

I've no idea how we'll recover financially from this and have had to now borrow money from family which I find humiliating. I'm trying to take each week as it comes at the moment as I'm no help to anyone being a sobbing anxious wreck

Don't be humiliated. This isn't a situation that you had any control, over and I hope your family give with a good heart. It's ok to feel sad and anxious, but you will get through this. We will all get through this. Look after yourself and your family and survive however you can. That's all you need to do right now.

CruCru · 02/04/2020 19:11

I actually wonder whether the people who keep shouting "STAY AT HOME!!! SAVE LIVES!!!" online and in person (regardless of whether the person they are shouting at has a sensible reason for being outside) will really miss this. They seem to take a lot of pleasure in enforcing rules that don't actually exist.

My Grandma said that was one of the worst things about there Second World War - having random people tell you that you weren't aiding the war effort "properly".

SmileyClare · 02/04/2020 19:16

Thanks Leigh that's kind.
Love that we can cheer each other up with a We're all in this together, just get through it as best you can attitude.

Great pup pics. That What the fuck? face was what I looked like when I realised I was 135000th in the online application queue for Universal credit.

Blakes77 · 02/04/2020 19:26

A family of braying twats (mum, dad and two kids) just ran across my front grass. There's some shared steps, then open grass, but fucksake, they ran right past my front window, startled me and trampled my blue bells! I know my street is a shithole but it's not a parcour course for families doing their daily exercise!
I had a mad moment of thinking "I know, I'll sneak out and follow them home, then I'll send the big one to do keepy uppies on their front lawn. That'll learn 'em." But I was too lazy.

Pass the rum.

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 02/04/2020 19:37

No pups but I have one of these.

He's definitely not enjoying having all of us at home, particularly DD.

I'm drinking my way though all stuff we've bought on holiday.

Remember those days? You could just leave the house and nip down to France and no one would even think of shopping you to the authorities.

It's some pastis today. I remember it being better last summer. Funny that.

Made sourdough pancakes tonight. Curiously good, bit like a paratha.

SmileyClare · 02/04/2020 19:43

Oh dear families doing parcour courses in your front garden. Whatever next. And breathe Blakes ..(not on anyone)

The penny's now dropped with the floater/ gloater typo haha. I did wonder why shits suddenly starting talking about stubborn turds hanging about in toilets in the middle of the conversation. assumed you were starting to crack under the strain of working from home Grin

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 02/04/2020 20:09

Well I went to take the rubbish out, some twat sat in his car honking (for NHS I assume) shouted at me to show some fucking respect. I took great pleasure to tell him to show some respect by staying the fuck home, since he doesn't live in the flats.

I've become one of ... them!!Shock

SmileyClare · 02/04/2020 20:11

Know what you mean Chardonnay We've started referring to the olden days before the pandemic..good times. Enjoy your pastis whatever that is! Wine

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 02/04/2020 20:13

I'm on my second now, keeps getting better!

Cheesr!

SmileyClare · 02/04/2020 20:15

Honk your horn and shout expletives at people emptying their bin is now the new Clap for the NHS then Hmm

FrangipaniBlue · 02/04/2020 20:18

No no Princess, come back to the light!!!!!!

TheGreatWave · 02/04/2020 20:29

Princess we forgive you

I am not sure tonight which is more annoying, the 'if you go out, someone will instantly be infected' or the stupid memes listing how many people die of seasonal flu compared to CV.

On a good note I have booked a day off work tomorrow and I am going to do some gardening. This is likely to involve the delivery of a skip and a visit to the local shop that sells veg and plants.
