The rise in the hero complex

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 28/03/2020 17:08

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

High time someone made those parents of bigger families just choose their two favourite children, and leave the others outside for the wolves to eat, eh?

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 31/03/2020 22:37

Nothing funny to add but I’m joining as this thread may just help keep me sane.

some kind of irrational fear/hate of children

Oh, and this ^^ I started a thread the other day about how on a walk several dog owners allowed their dogs to run up to us - brushing against us/jumping up and how maybe it’d be better for dogs to be on leads at this time? and was met with lots of comments about how I should sympathise with dog owners as now they have to share “their” walks with “the world and his wife”. One poster said maybe we should have our children on leashes instead? I left the thread as my gob was so smacked!

bringthegin · 31/03/2020 22:52

I'm all up for putting my teenager outside...... aw come on Netflix start working...I've got my one solitary hour - I need cheesy nice tv. Essentials

FrangipaniBlue · 31/03/2020 22:55

How come out of all the threads I'm on this is the only one that has disappeared from the list and can only find it on watch?

I hope it stays this way, otherwise "they" will find us and stomp all over our fun Wink

bringthegin · 31/03/2020 22:57

@FrangipaniBlue or steal our soldiers

FrangipaniBlue · 31/03/2020 22:57

Yes @ShesGotBetteDavisEyes how very dare you allow your children into the dogs spaces, you can't just decide to identify as dogs and dog walkers and muscle your way in!!!

FrangipaniBlue · 31/03/2020 22:58

or steal our soldiers

Quite!

Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 23:01

Exactly what I was thinking!!

or steal our soldiers

Hadn’t considered that! 😱 Maybe we can slip them the faulty STD stricken one. That would really give them something to complain about 😂

LEELULUMPKIN · 31/03/2020 23:03

With regards to overbreeding it has just occurred to me to wonder how on earth The Radford's are coping during all this?

My idea of a nightmare at the best of times, but with a lockdown, no bog roll and home schooling.

Shopping must be a nightmare too.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 23:14

Shit I forgot about the Radfords! Plus with mum currently pregnant again she’ll be self isolating. Dad is going to have some fun shopping trips for essentials!

SmileyClare · 31/03/2020 23:15

Ha you lot are funny. The comment above about an "addiction to child rearing" ? What on earth Confused #BeKind got forgotten pretty quickly!

Good on you Greysparkles for finding a new job. I know you were struggling with money worries and I really sympathise.
Good luck tomorrow. Sending some virtual claps your way..

And regards to school work, I have a feeling that the heroic high flying parent homeschoolers attempting 8 hours of engaging lessons plus teaching their child basic Mandarin (and capturing it all on social media) will burn out by Easter. Wink

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 31/03/2020 23:23

But.. what if I can't find us again?Shock

Plus.. let them come. Just put the fan on and start breathing.Grin

We've got this!!

Your over-breeding is already having a huge impact on the environment and you expect everyone else to suffer now to make way for your addiction to child rearing?

Yes how selfish not to consider a world wide pandemic 15yrs ago when you decided to have kids! Some people eh?

One poster said maybe we should have our children on leashes insteadl
The world has gone batshit in a week! Stark raving bloody mad! To quote the awesome Ripley "Who do i have to fuck to get off this boat?"

God i.am glad i wasnt the checkout person serving the Radfords. Bet they came in waves when things at our store were rationed to 1, 2 or 3.per shop! Imagin telling Mr R he could onky have 1 pk of loo rolls or a dozen eggs at a time! (I am sure he was very reasonable but still glad it wasnt me) Was bad enough telling some bloke he couldnt have 75 eggs at one time and the look of horror on his face!😀😀

Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 23:30

Plus.. let them come. Just put the fan on and start breathing.grin

Maybe if we start a unproven theory it can spread via the internet? Give links to computer viruses as proof...I’m sure some of the posters on here would believe it. Especially if we say my aunts, window cleaners wife works for the NHS

SmileyClare · 31/03/2020 23:34

My Spanish soldier is defective, can I send him back with Hermes?

Don't You mean Herpes? brilliant Grin

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 31/03/2020 23:39

Easier to just tell them Boris requested that people stop using the internet except once a day for essential email and one hour at the weekend for entertainment purposes. The extra usage is overwhelming the networks, causes disruption in hospital and supermarkets , add extra stress to key workers and puts them in danger.

Actually I just realised there would probably be more of an uproar at the thought of losing internet than freedoms and rights.

OP posts:
Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 23:43

@PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock IF Boris does actually end up requesting something like this you know I’m blaming you right??

Actually shit are you actually Boris typing this from isolation to check how we’d react?? 😱😱

Thepigeonsarecoming · 31/03/2020 23:44

Is this thread some sort of government controlled social experiment (tin foil hat firmly on head)

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 31/03/2020 23:50

I plead the 5th.

Oh fuck I just gave myself away didn't I?Grin

OP posts:
Thepigeonsarecoming · 01/04/2020 03:45

Wait...pleading the 5th...are you American??? FFS you are Trump (guess who Mumsnet style)

WellThisIsShit · 01/04/2020 04:20

I am very sad that the Spanish soldiers are a err, little erratic.

I was going to try and buy some on eBay even though I’d be paying well over the odds and letting those evil bulk buyers profit from their well, evility...

It has all the hallmarks of a fabulous Hollywood story... sexy soldier men, a deadly virus, market economics and of course, many, many, evil doers, whose crimes are numerous and can shift in any direction necessary, from ‘breathing wrong’ to ‘debating any other topic than the virus’ and being rude to all these wonderful home grown hero’s ... or in shock shift, actually being one of those ‘have a go heroes’ shouting at people and informing on them in true stazi creep stylee. Ugh. We’d be the beautiful heroines of course...

CrystalAlligator · 01/04/2020 08:52

That Charlie post is clearly a joke... it’s funny! I can’t believe everyone thinks it’s not tongue in cheek, it went so far to send itself up. Am I the only one who can see that!?

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 01/04/2020 10:17

Good morning villains and antiheroes!

What things "not in the spirit of the lockdown" are you doing today?

OP posts:
HermanHermit · 01/04/2020 10:23

There’s a fantastic hero of the lockdown doing what presumably is an April fool in the Times / Mail / front of Grazia today. A backbench Labour MP who has done one shift in A&E is claiming to be on the frontline of the fight against the virus and posing in her scrubs. She does about 4 shifts per year in the Parliamentary recesses and then PR’s the living daylights out of them. Despicable behaviour.
