The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

If someone is going out can they keep an eye out for my sanity!

Thanks Smile

UYScuti · 31/03/2020 14:05

Yes, I'd be breathing very heavily if I had me a Spanish soldier 😊❤️

Not sure it's you who needs to find it...

I think we saw it but we breathed on it so it's probably all contaminated now anyways.

This is not a joke.
My stepfather (in Paris) saw a neighbour going down from his apartment with a cat basket. The neighbour said "I am just taking my cat out for a walk!"

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/03/2020 14:54

It’s the family goldfish next.

LEELULUMPKIN · 31/03/2020 15:55

If I havn't missed the shop, can you get me the biggest Easter egg they have please? Oh and a packet of tomato snaps. Thanks.

SarahTancredi · 31/03/2020 16:00

We should all take a pet tarantula .

Garunteed social distancing then...

Everyone would be too busy burning their house down if you came within 50 feet or sterilising their washing to notice how many times you went for a walk

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 31/03/2020 16:14

On a slightly more serious note, how is everyone holding up?

I was fine until she mentioned Tomato Snaps (vom)

Willow2017 · 31/03/2020 16:42

Fine thanks. Having a fairly lazy day today
Its my ds2s birthday today (15😲😲😲) so have choc cake to eat soon😄
Have been using my 'exercise period' and been out front tidying up the pots and pruning so now relaxing with medicinal wine before tea.

How are you doing? (Apart from the reckless breathing everywhere!)

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 31/03/2020 16:45

Been better.

I'm quite enjoying it. Have a clutching panic every time dh gets home in case today is the day he has to close the business, but I'm enjoying parts of the enforced rest.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 31/03/2020 17:09

Not sure it's you who needs to find it...

Maybe not. But there so many people about that seem to enjoying the drama, the excuse to be nasty and berate others etc I feel like its slowly slipping away.

I am kind of ok. My work have decided to furlough the majority of staff, except senior leaders who are to keep it all running day to day. Means I have am staying (yay) but my team are not and I feel incredibly guilty.

Especially since, whilst I know their job, I dont know it as well as they do. I over see them but my job is very much fielding directors and working with them ti provide better information to my team, so my team can do the job.

And the more directors I speak to, the more I realise they are keeping more and more staff. Which means my workload will increase substantially.

Over all ok. But dreading next week.

Tonyaster · 31/03/2020 17:24

We have so many new people running down the country lane directly outside our house that I've just chucked a load of horse poo outside. They'll have to run through it. There are too many of them and they spit Shock

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 31/03/2020 17:26

Willow Happy Birthday to DS2. I hope he enjoys his non essential chocolate birthday cake and has some unnecessary fun.

GrumpyMug2 · 31/03/2020 18:32

Happy Birthday DS2!

I have had a full day on video calls, trying to manage a very hectic section of the business remotely with a 7yr old autistic DS at home and oh, lone parent as well. Parenting standards are gone. Trying but struggling. Wine and ice cream are now absolutely classed as essential and I really don't care what anyone says. Heroically stayed in all day. Where's my gold star?

Shitsgettingcrazy · 31/03/2020 18:45

This thread makes me so happy!

Noticed a new form of poster. The ones thay claim they are in, isolated and dont have essentials because 10 days ago there werent any left on the shelf.

Except when you suggest asking friend or neighbour ....they could but dont.

Or contacting a local charity or see if theres a local group that is doing shop....they could but dont (insert martyrish reason).

And they do have the stuff in, just not loads.

But the fact they are going without is everyone else fault. Nothing to do with the fact that they arent doing anything about actually getting the items in.

Greysparkles · 31/03/2020 18:46

Well my days looking brighter, starting a job with the NHS tomorrow.... I'll get those claps if it kills me 😂
