My lungs feel like they are on fire - part 3

@longshot started a new thread as the other filled up and I thought you were poorly and people would be wanting to find out how you were doing.

Interesting - I just got off the phone with a GP phone consultation and thought I’d share 2 things: 1. She said it’s looking more and more likely that people take a few weeks to recover from corona they’re realising here 2. The burning / fiery chest feeling is more likely due to acid reflux / not eating as much she said and not the lungs. She said to go see a GP physically at the surgery if my lungs feel worse / shorter of breath in 48 hours. Bit of reassurance for people!

Casino218 · 28/03/2020 13:01

@EMichel102 personally I think she's wrong about the burning being reflux but there you go! There are lots we don't know about this virus.

DandyPenguin · 28/03/2020 13:02

Thanks EMichel. Interesting to know. I’ve hardly had that burning feeling in my lungs, only when I first responded to the OP of the first thread 10 days or so ago. But I’ve been eating well so that makes sense.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 13:02

Interesting Emitchel
I thought mine was acid reflux at the start and I still drink gaviscon when the chest/back burns happen. It does ease it sometimes.

TheDrsWife46 · 28/03/2020 13:02
  • my DD is much better her cough is now very phlegm-y and less frequent so assume shes clearing her chest.

111 triaged me. Then a clinician called, they said i can either have an ambulance to take me in to A&E or place me on a call back from a GP. I said i’d like to talk to a gp because its the affects im not managing rather than a breathing issue.

If anyone else is struggling and feels like they just need medical advice, they were amazing this far. They clearly are told to expect desperate people. I was crying and apologising that im taking their time up but they said thats exactly why they are there to coach you through managing your symptoms even if its just to speak to them.

TiddleTaddleTat · 28/03/2020 13:05

I find this all pretty reassuring.
Day 16 and fatigue persists, if I do too much I have to lie down. I still get earache and headaches, as well as random upper back and chest pains. Cough continues and sometimes seems to have faded off then it returns and is very frequent.
I have had a good appetite throughout and feel better after I've eaten.
The fatigue has been the worse bit for me, and I haven't needed to contact 111 or GP. I am healthy mid 30s though coeliac which I think carries possible risk due to some people having spleen issues.

TheDrsWife46 · 28/03/2020 13:05

Currently the chills etc have all passed so currently I just have the chest pains shallow breathing but I can manage that by sitting still. Reading back at everyone reminding me that it does pass, and that lets face it, it WILL happen again if the last six days are anything to go by.

Also, they were very clear that these are coronavirus symptoms and to assume that you do have it.

EMichel102 · 28/03/2020 13:05

@Casino218 I’m also somewhat sceptical!
@thedoctorswife46 I’m so glad they were reassuring to you. Let us know what the GP says.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 13:10

It's good to know you can get reassurance like that DrsWife
They sound very helpful

DandyPenguin · 28/03/2020 13:10

they said i can either have an ambulance to take me in to A&E or place me on a call back from a GP.

I find that rather astonishing. That’s two very different levels of ‘service’ offered for the same need. If they think you’re so bad you need an ambulance to A&E, I’m not sure how a callback from a GP can be a good substitute.

ofwarren · 28/03/2020 13:11

I think the burning pain can be made worse with acid but I too don't agree that that is the main cause.

DandyPenguin · 28/03/2020 13:13

@TiddleTaddleTat your symptoms & experience sounds v similar to mine. Fatigue has been my main problem here too.

Keepdistance · 28/03/2020 13:16

The reflux could make sense in that it does seem to affect digestion some people d or v.

TheDrsWife46 · 28/03/2020 13:22

@DandyPenguin i think they were trying to ascertain what did I want from the consultation because I was in a state Blush i suppose in those circumstances she doesnt have many options open to her. I deffo wasnt going for an ambulance. I suspect the ambulance is to keep you isolated rather than saying “make your way to a&e”

Still waiting on the callback though and I cant imagine it will be soon

PrehistoricJugs · 28/03/2020 13:22

Hi all,

Fairly new here and have come across this thread. I saw that some of you have reported sore eyes as a symptom - can I ask a bit more about that?

I woke up this morning and it was like I'd been in a room full of smoke. Eyes were very sore and felt as if they were burning out of my head. I couldn't keep them open, it was too painful. DP helped me back up to bed and closed the curtains and I just lay in bed with a cold flannel over my eyes.
My eyes still feel as if they are burning, but I can keep them open now at least, although it is a bit uncomfortable to do so. I also have a bit of a sinus type headache.

Does this sound like the painful eyes others have experienced? Would it be worthwhile to record how I feel over the next couple of days?

Spacecadetagain · 28/03/2020 13:23

I’ve had a very poor appetite and as a result I’ve lost eight pounds !
I’m feeling really rotten again with back and rib pain and that horrible crackly/bubbly feeling under my ribs

Porcupineinwaiting · 28/03/2020 13:25

@Spacecadetagain how long have you been sick for?

Casino218 · 28/03/2020 13:26

@PrehistoricJugs my eyes felt that way. That was my first symptom.

OP posts:
DandyPenguin · 28/03/2020 13:31

At the risk of sounding very harsh, I sincerely hope NHS-111 isn’t leaving it to caller’s discretion as to whether they call an ambulance or not. Doing that would only increase the amount of people requesting an ambulance when they really don’t need one at a time when some people desperately need one.

There’s a big difference between actual physical symptoms making you feel like you’re about to die and (ultimately manufactured) anxiety making you feel like you’re going to die.

Spacecadetagain · 28/03/2020 13:32

@Porcupineinwaiting I think I’m on day 15 if I go from the first day that I got a temp or day 11 if I go from the first day I started feeling properly I’ll .. it’s hard to know as the symptoms seemed so non descript and vague to start with

emjomoo · 28/03/2020 13:32

@PrehistoricJugs I have sore eyes at the moment (day 8? I'm not sure) - I had them early on, sometimes they're not sore, then it comes back. I have a headache today and my eyes are sore again with that

TheDrsWife46 · 28/03/2020 13:42

@DandyPenguin I dont find that harsh at all. Completely fair comment to make. X

MellowMelly · 28/03/2020 13:46

@PrehistoricJugs
My daughters eyes were sore and red with no itching or gunky stuff. The redness seemed to come and go with only one eye being red each time. Almost like conjunctivitis. She also had sinus style headaches.

Another family members eyes were sore, red and watery.

My Granddaughters eyes were also very pink and watery.

Porcupineinwaiting · 28/03/2020 13:49

Have you seen a doctor in the last few days @Spacecadetagain? If not, maybe you should think about it . Sounds like you have a mild pneumonia and, whilst that's not necessarily a problem, they might want to give you prophylactic antibiotics or at least check you out. 《Disclaimer: I am not a doctor 》

mymoonmyman2020 · 28/03/2020 13:52

@TiddleTaddleTat and others the fatigue is definitely the worst thing for me. I can barely leave bed and when I do I find my heart races (?) and I’m ridiculously weak - couldn’t carry a book up the stairs today!

But generally I have no fever, no cough just mild shortness of breath (taking deep breaths), aches and fatigue. Keep hoping resting will make me better. I’m only on day 6 so appreciate I potentially have at least a week more of this ...
