Clapping the NHS at 8pm today

Violetdaffodil · 26/03/2020 15:35

I am an NHS worker

To all those of you who voted for the Tory party at the last election, a party that has for a long time tried to destroy the NHS and only realise our worth now that there is a serious pandemic afoot,

and to all of you who were clogging up the beaches, the Lake District, the parks in London etc without a care in the world last weekend

I don’t want to hear your hypocritical clapping out the window for the NHS workers tonight, so PLEASE DON’T

OP posts:

Ooh Bovary, don't get aereated now, it's only words on a screen. Clapping like a seal and balconies indeed...I can't decide if you're assuming I live in a tower block or if you think I've got some fucking mansion or something.

Innitogether · 26/03/2020 18:35

@HatRack - I saw her on Sky News today :

news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-public-urged-to-clap-for-our-carers-and-applaud-nhs-workers-tonight-11964074

vera99 · 26/03/2020 18:36

I think some of us are having a laugh at the moment and for that I am grateful. (applause)

BovaryX · 26/03/2020 18:39

it's only words

Vicious
Quite so. Only words. Is that your standard response when you get challenged? About meaningless gestures?

MoonlightMistletoe · 26/03/2020 18:40

My neighbours are doctors/consultants in my local hospital, I will be clapping tonight and I haven't left my house for two weeks now.

Nothing2doooooo · 26/03/2020 18:41

#IclappedDidYou Hmm

SmileEachDay · 26/03/2020 18:43

I am tickled by the #clapfprourcarers because it sounds as though we want them all to get an STD.

Beyond that...I don’t know. It’s been powerful in Europe. It is about the nhs but it’s also about the psychology of people feeling they belong to a team.

And if ever there was a time humans need to get their collective shit together, it’s now...

EvenFlo2 · 26/03/2020 18:44

As an NHS worker I must say I find it a bit embarrassing - I’m just doing my job.

Nothing2doooooo · 26/03/2020 18:45

While we're at it, share your video with 5 friends, make an #Iclapped rosette and pin to your forehead where everyone can see and thank you for clapping and supporting, sign a petition to have today's date as a holiday to always remember the day we clapped for the NHS. Now let's pat ourselves on the shoulder. Job well done.

LambriniSocialist · 26/03/2020 18:46

This thread is so Mumsnetty.

Whilst the rest of the world is posting everywhere about how the can't wait to clap out of their windows in appreciation of the NHS, and will be videoing themselves ready to immediately post on social media... you can always rely MNetters to stand there, arms folded and cats bum mouth in full tightness, declaring how ridiculous the whole thing is.

I love it!

Mistressiggi · 26/03/2020 18:46

As a resident of Morriszapp's polite city, I would find it incredibly embarrassing to go outside and clap.
BUT what if some of my neighbours are NHS workers and will be offended that I haven't clapped? If I knew anyone who worked for the NHS would hear me, I'd get over my embarrassment and show some support!

lowlandLucky · 26/03/2020 18:47

BiBiBirdie Of course Labour are doing a great job of running the N.H.S in Wales! Maybe i shouldnt have mentioned that

ineedaholidaynow · 26/03/2020 18:56

Wonder if the NHS counterparts in other countries find this cringeworthy, or is just a British thing?

Think they do it every night in some countries. I suppose it does work better if you live in a highly populated area so you can make some noise and connect with your neighbours

LuxLFC · 26/03/2020 19:02

This pic is a heartfelt, meaningful thank you.

I find it patronising. We should be writing to MPs & Journalists to demand tests, PPE & mental health support for them, clapping means nothing. The fact it's going to be televised is bizarre. Imagine if you had no idea this was happening & suddenly heard everyone outside clapping at nothing lol!

Clapping at 8pm. Facebook flooded with videos of people clapping by 5 past.

I'll be supporting every single NHS worker by doing exactly as they have asked and following the rules by staying in.

TheLinerunner · 26/03/2020 19:44

The virtue signaller that created this cringefest is annemarie plas

Thank fuck for MN. I thought it might just be me.

Yep, there will be competitive seal-clapping on Facebook by 8.01pm from people who previously slagged off nurses from the Philippines.

goldenorbspider · 26/03/2020 19:56

^^ I'm so glad I've found my people

DullPortraits · 26/03/2020 19:57

Are you 12 OP?? Hmm

Kingcole · 26/03/2020 19:58

Patronising nonsense and not welcome here.

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 19:58

Oh ok!

MorrisZapp · 26/03/2020 20:01

Omg. I did it! It was AMAZING

MorrisZapp · 26/03/2020 20:02

Ooty a tenement in the cold and dark! I feel like a new woman. Wonderful

MarshaBradyo · 26/03/2020 20:02
