Violetdaffodil · 26/03/2020 15:35

I am an NHS worker

To all those of you who voted for the Tory party at the last election, a party that has for a long time tried to destroy the NHS and only realise our worth now that there is a serious pandemic afoot,

and to all of you who were clogging up the beaches, the Lake District, the parks in London etc without a care in the world last weekend

I don’t want to hear your hypocritical clapping out the window for the NHS workers tonight, so PLEASE DON’T

OP posts:
LuluJakey1 · 26/03/2020 17:43

Vera99 Shall we have one for her as well? She hasn't had a mention for weeks in the papers.

Doggybiccys · 26/03/2020 17:43

@StealthPolarBear - not sure if you are a nurse, but the NMC are not fit for purpose IMHO. There is a complete lack of guidance - just a lot of "we expect this" and "we expect that" and comments like you might need to work out with "established procedures" whilst reminding you that you need to work within your limits of competence and have idemnity insurance. RCN just as invisible - why are they not going ballistic about the lack of PPE and testing for front line staff? Nurses have been really let down by both the regulator and the union.

StealthPolarBear · 26/03/2020 17:45

I'm not but I work in health (not direct care,)

MiracletoCome · 26/03/2020 17:45

Has this come from Facebook as it is similar to when people put flags on their faces

HatRack · 26/03/2020 17:47

Labour set up the NHS.

It's no secret that Blair's "new" labour brand was tory-lite. You're not intelligent for pointing it out and it doesn't detract from OPs argument

Rocketmam · 26/03/2020 17:50

Many on this thread seem to have a very low opinion of people

Because we've met some?

People. What a bunch of bastards.

Wink
Saturdayk · 26/03/2020 17:50

Totally fair enough.

vera99 · 26/03/2020 17:51

@LuluJakey1 It's what she would have wanted what with Harry and everything. (I was being sarcastic !). I shall do what the street does coward that I am but my heart and soul belongs to those brave workers clap or not. Who should be royally rewarded when all this is over and in my book 5k wouldn't touch the sides of that gratitude.

girlicorne · 26/03/2020 17:55

All of my family and friends in the NHS and all of the people they work with want proper PPE and more hands on deck not hands clapping the air! Like PPs have said I think it's patronising too, although I do 100% value the work they are doing I won't be joining in. .

vera99 · 26/03/2020 17:57

Also when you start clapping when do you actually stop ?

jasjas1973 · 26/03/2020 17:58

I won't be clapping, its an utterly pointless gesture... weren't some nurses last year having to register to use food banks?

No one gave a flying fuck then.

They had a pay freeze for years, followed by a 1% pay rise... no one cared then either.

My DD and her colleagues don't want a gesture, they need practical support, PPE and pay rise!!!!

Maybe take if off all these billionaires the UK has?

Nursing83 · 26/03/2020 18:06

I think this sort of thing may work in big cities where people are crammed together and stand on their balconies clapping, I imagine Milan for instance may be very inspiring and you get a bit of camaraderie and some 'company' knowing everyone is doing it together.

Personally I would rather people petition the government to ensure keyworkers have appropriate PPE, so that we dont follow Italy, Spain or the US where between 15-25% of people infected with COVID-19 are healthcare workers. I wanted to be a nurse to help people, I didnt volunteer to join the army because I dont want to fucking die doing my job. Dont even start on all these pictures and posters saying the NHS has this, the NHS doesnt have this we are already getting overwhelmed recent reports suggest 25% of staff are off sick. Young people are dying, nurses are killing themselves and the best thing those people who dont have to do any more than sit on a sofa can do is clap. Ridiculous

AlexaAmbidextra · 26/03/2020 18:07

I've yet to see a nurse leader on any of the major news bulletins (although granted I haven't watched them all but the NMC and RCN seem invisible).

Doggybiccys. Are you surprised? Both are as much use as a chocolate fire guard.

eddiemairswife · 26/03/2020 18:09

Whose idea was this clapping business?

CarlottaValdez · 26/03/2020 18:12

This key worker won’t be clapping and doesn’t want her children woken tbh. It’s a stupid idea. I used to work shifts and would also not want to be woken myself!

ViciousJackdaw · 26/03/2020 18:13

Our NHS staff put themselves at risk every day. They are overworked and underappreciated. They don't have the resources to look after their patients, let alone themselves. But hey, that's OK because they can have a round of applause instead. After which, there'll be countless home videos of little Noah and Olivia applauding the NHS. People will just use this as an opportunity to virtue signal.

BovaryX · 26/03/2020 18:14

Also when you start clapping when do you actually stop ?
Grin

Dunno. But I do think it's hilarious that the OP wants to police the participants so that only Labour voters are engaged in this epically pointless gesture....

squid4 · 26/03/2020 18:17

A&E doctor. Agree with OP.

Though much more about the first point than the second, as the government have sent out loads of mixed messages to the public.

ViciousJackdaw · 26/03/2020 18:17

I do think it's hilarious that the OP wants to police the participants so that only Labour voters are engaged in this epically pointless gesture....

They don't though. They believe thanks and praise from people who vote Conservative to be hypocritical. I don't blame them, it is.

Quicklittlenamechange · 26/03/2020 18:23

Why can’t people be gracious and except the gesture in the good spirit it is being offered
Because we are professionals not 5 year old children at an assembly Hmm
Ugh -everyone Ive spoken to is ConfusedConfusedConfused about this.
Just NO

vera99 · 26/03/2020 18:24

One could clap whilst displaying a poster with t&c 's to eliminate any misapprehension. Problem is if you pretend you are not home you will be done for going out so you cant really win on this one.

Merename · 26/03/2020 18:24

I agree with your point OP, it’s a bit late praising nhs workers in a decimated nhs when you were part of the decision making that led to that.

But the clapping - cringe. Just feels like a way for people to virtue signal. I’m sure most people are extremely grateful, I am, but not sure why my neighbours need told this.

vera99 · 26/03/2020 18:26

@squid4 consider yourself epically clapped in a non-clapping sort of way. Flowers

BovaryX · 26/03/2020 18:26

To all those of you who voted for the Tory party at the last election, a party that has for a long time tried to destroy the NHS

Vicious

I suggest you read the OP again. Denouncing a majority of the electorate and demanding Conservatives refrain from meaningless gestures? Millions will be happy to oblige. But hey. If you want to clap like a seal on Team Labour? Fill your boots. Google NHS PFI debt bequeathed by the last Labour govt. You know. When you descend from your balcony.

HatRack · 26/03/2020 18:28

The virtue signaller that created this cringefest is annemarie plas
