Delay in today's numbers

TheReelSlimShady · 25/03/2020 20:00

Unless I'm being really stupid, it doesn't look like the numbers have been updated for today, it still says 24th March

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-information-for-the-public

Not seen any reasons as to why they are delayed?

It's not disappointing at all. If the figures are accurate then, while unbearably tragic for those who've lost loved ones, it's a relief that the number isn't higher.

But the number is oddly low, looking at how it's been rising by almost 30% each day. Plus then there's the weirdness of it coming out 7 hours late. So it's a natural reaction to feel kind of confused by it, and a bit distrustful. I want to feel relief and hope, but instead feel on edge that something's not right. I do hope it is right, and the predicted peak never happens.

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 25/03/2020 21:16

@AHippoNamedBooBooButt thanks! Thought that was crazily low (ps. Love your name - best kids book ever!

redstararnie76 · 25/03/2020 21:16

England's figures still haven't been released. When they are, they show up on gov.uk and on the Department of Health Social Care's Twitter feed. Both of these are still only showing yesterdays figures (with yesterday's date) as their most recent report. People DON'T want the figures to be higher, we just know that they haven't yet been released.

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2020 21:17

Those are not yesterday’s numbers,,,Confused

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 21:17

Having had a look at Italy's daily figures they appear to have had 2 days where their figures dipped

March 1st - 573 (which was a big jump)
March 2nd - 335

March 9th - 1797
March 10th - 977

So maybe there are going to be a couple of random days where it seems to drop

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 25/03/2020 21:17

@duffeldaisy totally agree

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 21:18

I am waiting till the government publishes it.

ElatedDragon · 25/03/2020 21:18

Maybe because it was oddly low, they were rechecking and reconfirming the figures?

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 25/03/2020 21:18

I clicked on the link on phe twitter page to the breakdown by local authority. That is what is showing as 9529. So I believe that is a credible source

Mary1935 · 25/03/2020 21:19

Those figures cannot be accurate.
A friend who’s works in pathology advised me today they are no longer testing people in ICU as they know they have it - I wondering if that’s how they are reducing the numbers.
Do they think we are fools.

MashedPotatoBrainz · 25/03/2020 21:19

The Worldometer website says the figures for England haven't been released yet, just Scotland, NI and Wales. Down at the bottom under Latest Updates.

womanthatfelltoearth · 25/03/2020 21:19

PHE app showing more than 1500 new cases..

Delay in today's numbers
todayisnottuesday · 25/03/2020 21:19

It's only 'impossibly' or 'unrealistically' low if you bought into the we ARE 2 weeks behind Italy, not MAY be. It was never a foregone conclusion and there are reasons why we might not follow the same trajectory as Italy. That is not to say we will or won't, obviously still too early to know. But relatively fewer grieving relatives and a slight bit of hope is enough for me at the moment,

Rocketmam · 25/03/2020 21:20

Nah. I'm not disappointed or 'knitting by the gallows.

But I know bullshit when I see it.

And either Jesus himself has chosen to bless only England with a miracle whilst shitting on the rest of the world... or someone has fucked up those figures.

defthand · 25/03/2020 21:20

I just want the numbers to be bloody well make sense. I’ve been following this virus since January and our numbers are all over the place compared to other countries’ trends.

It’s far too early for the social distancing measures to impact on deaths.

Itsnotthatcomplicated · 25/03/2020 21:20

It really does feel like people will be happier tomorrow if the number is higher.

Whilst graphs and stats and predictions are all well and good, there is no reason to think we will not have days where it doesnt follow the curve.

Stats are averages. Theres always the days that go against the trend. Let's be grateful that theres less families today who have lost someone. Instead of assuming it's wrong or its lie.

The government were clear. Improvements from lock down would take 2 weeks before any improvement. This definitely isnt from lock down.

StitchInLime · 25/03/2020 21:20

Media outlets are now reporting 'Covid-19 deaths halve in a day'. While infection rates are up, deaths are down meaning the NHS is doing a grand job. I'm taking that as a positive even if it turns out to be wrong.

As for twitter etc not being updated, their digital team is probably off this evening but their media person is working so the press have the numbers. They're not robots.

Derbygerbil · 25/03/2020 21:20

@Bluntness100

www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/ae5dda8f86814ae99dde905d2a9070ae

Yes, they are. We had 422 deaths as of yesterday.... This rose to 435 through the day (see Worldometers).

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2020 21:20

Blimey some of the comments.

I can’t believe instead of seeing the numbers and feeling relief, people are guessing at errors, conspiracy theories, and predictions of doom for tomorrow, or desperately scrabbling to show other countries who has a dip and then got an increase.

😱

KeysDontBelongInTheFridge · 25/03/2020 21:21

@Mary1935 That surely can’t be true? What’s the point in even testing people at all if they’re just going to pick and choose who they test.

defthand · 25/03/2020 21:21

It may just be overworked administrators struggling to collate data in certain regions. I hope that’s why the trends are such a mess.

TitsInAbsentia · 25/03/2020 21:21

Italy went in to lockdown 2 weeks ago but the number of new cases today 5200 so it's definitely a long game. Until we see Italy and Spain start to plateau and then their new cases/deaths drop we can't breathe any sigh of relief. This is such a sad situation and looking at the news people in this country still haven't got the message.

Coughisoff · 25/03/2020 21:21

It could be much higher but they’ll stagger it so that we don’t panic. Or they’ll add the real numbers on when they won’t be noticed as much.

DressingGownofDoom · 25/03/2020 21:23

'Is this better than Italy 2 weeks ago as people keep saying we are 2 weeks behind them?'

Yeah we seem to have been reporting lower increases than Italy for the past few days, probably because of all the great people staying in before we were told we had to. Italy didn't know what was about to hit them at that stage but we had warning.

Peapod29 · 25/03/2020 21:23

and the predicted peak never happens

I hope this too. But there are an awful lot of people I’ve seen on here and know irl who will feel (I think disappointed is the wrong word) but like we did massively overreact. They won’t view it as the ‘peak never happening because we took strict measures that worked’. They will focus on the events missed, jobs lost, education missed out on.
