The Royals jumping ship...

A virus pandemic breaks out in the UK. Everyone is essentially on house arrest bar a few essential occasions. Businesses and workers facing going bust. People dying every day. Hospitals overwhelmed. Surely this would be a great moment for a morale boosting message from our beloved royals, who we pay to keep in the lap of luxury? Oh wait, a little recorded message has been deemed a health risk to the Queen (allegedly).

Oh well, they can always volunteer Buckingham Palace as a makeshift hospital or hub for supplies, etc, as I'm sure they want to do what they can for their beloved citizens, especially now theyve legged it out of London. Oh wait.

Seriously what are these people for and why do we pay for them again?

All I want is public statements filmed and given by the Queen. She is still the Queen, she has not retired. It does not have to be long.

pallasathena · 25/03/2020 17:15

I despair...

BubblesBuddy · 25/03/2020 17:16

She’s delegating the job to son and grandson who have run away and the third one to Canada! She must feel very alone at times.

lyralalala · 25/03/2020 17:17

Has there been an English death total today?

Just seem someone speculating online that the news about PC has been released to distract from the fact no figures have been released on the first day it's highly likely the number will be over 100 in the 24 hours.

It's a bit tin foil hatty, but I can't find a figure for England for the last 24 hours

Alsohuman · 25/03/2020 17:18

What part of no amount of money will solve this are you all unable to understand? The government is hosing money at it. Money doesn’t stop viruses spreading. Nor do messages from 93 year old ladies.

BurneyFanny · 25/03/2020 17:18

apart from her speaking French as if it were her own language, her encyclopaedic knowledge of current affairs, her understanding of politics, her knowledge of the animal kingdom

Srsly? This is the queen speaking French. I promise you, this does not sound like it is her own language.

^^ forgot the link

Wolfgirrl · 25/03/2020 17:20

@Alsohuman so donating money to local business owners to pay their staff wouldn't help? Or a similar charitable gesture?

OP posts:
JellyfishandShells · 25/03/2020 17:20

For what it's worth, I'm no royalist

Really ? Never would have guessed from the goady tone of your post, OP

Their PR gurus can word it tastefully but the public does need to know they are doing more than nothing. No the public don't, charity doesn't have to be something you show off about, I know of a very famous couple who give alot of money to charity (I know because I know someone who received a large donation from them) and they choose to do it privately. It is their business. Prince William and his wife are involved in the National Emergencies Trust raising money for people in need due to the crisis, Prince Harry and his wife are involved in a charity for mental health problems due to the crisis. So younger members of the royal family are doing something. The over 90s really should be exempt and over 70s with the virus should be in isolation.

Alsohuman · 25/03/2020 17:21

The government’s already doing it. Do you not watch or read the news?

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 17:22

Okay I think sadly she has died and they are trying to hide that from us. Especially since Prince Charles is also ill.

MarshaBradyo · 25/03/2020 17:22

According to the latest Sovereign Grant accounts that were published last week, taxpayers in the UK are forking over more money than ever for the Royal Family. The monarchy cost £67 million ($86 million) in 2018-19, a 41% increase on the previous financial year.

Could be helpful.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 17:23

Money helps fight it and saves lives. That 93 year old can comfort many, many people. I am, by no means, a monarchist but even I can see that.

1forsorrow · 25/03/2020 17:23

She’s delegating the job to son and grandson who have run away and the third one to Canada! Her 71 year old son has the virus, what do you want him to do?

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 17:25

Prince Charles is supposed to be mildly affected and still working. Or is that a lie too?

moondance19 · 25/03/2020 17:25

I wish people would get rid of the misconception that the royals bring in tourism. It’s a myth that they. like us to believe that without them no one would visit. Think Paris, the Palace of Versailles, no shortage of visitors there. I think our tourism would improve if all those palaces and castles were empty.

Lifeisabeach09 · 25/03/2020 17:26

The government’s already doing it.

So the royal family (who are funded by the taxpayer a lot -see MarshaBradyo post) are absolved from donating??? On contrary, they need to show their philanthropy to this pandemic more than ever!

alloutoffucks · 25/03/2020 17:27

Being a paid member of the Royal Family is a job. You have to be seen to do your job.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 25/03/2020 17:29

Agree. I feel this is a 'Diana' moment to be honest. The remaining scales falling from people's eyes and so on.

A few will doggedly hang on though, desperate to be ruled and identify as a subject of sovereign power. God knows why.

The monarchy cost £67 million ($86 million) in 2018-19, a 41% increase on the previous financial year. Are you sure about that? I understood the Sovereign Grant came from the profits of the Crown Estates which are managed by the govt and the remaining profits go to the govt.

diddl · 25/03/2020 17:31

Well I guess they are managing to wfh & are staying within their own households as advised!

Noodlenosefraggle · 25/03/2020 17:32

Nobody has answered the question of what they are all there for then, if not to boost morale in times of hardship? To open the Chelsea Fliwer Show and occupy some Royal Boxes at Wimbledon? The Windsors the tv show is cruel because it just cuts to the bone of how pointless they are.

Thekindofwindowsfaceslookinat · 25/03/2020 17:33
