These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

Plumbers and heating engineers and locksmiths and glazers and car mechanics are all essential, suppliers will have to remain open for them, as will the small businesses that support industry like engineering supplies.

The country can’t function without them

You can go out to exercise once a day. Take your dog's then for a walk, that's it. Dog gets out and about, you get some exercise, what's the issue.

SittingAround1 · 23/03/2020 21:37

No more building sites, no more house purchases, or moving, no MOTs.

Bluntness100 · 23/03/2020 21:37

Lady yes, it’s like an avalanche of people trying to pick holes to get round it.

Once upon a time apparantly the Brits helped each other out. Now it’s all a bit me me me.

liberoncolours · 23/03/2020 21:37

In France things were clarified after the announcement - a list of services such as garages expressly listed as "essential" permitted to stay open with discretion to be used by the company and consumer about what was essential. In france you can go to work if telework or postponement is not feasible. However it is subject to change - it may become more restricted - many people think it should be for a short period. It is all on the govmt website here which is constantly beig updated.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 23/03/2020 21:37

Rose dog - no it isn't! One walk a day is absolutely fine.

I have a dog by the way.

Putting your dogs 3 walks a day above the lives of others is quite frankly ridiculous (it's.more than that but I'm trying to curb my swearing)

Ginkypig · 23/03/2020 21:37

pickles

Ye my vet called me this morning to say that was what they were doing but that was obviously before the announcement tonight about the lockdown.

Il call them to ask if they feel medically if she needs to be seen or I feel it can wait.

pjpod · 23/03/2020 21:37

I don't live with my children, when will I see them?

letterfromamerica · 23/03/2020 21:38

I’m in legal lockdown in the US:
Petrol stations open as are grocery stores, chemists
Post and courier deliveries as usual
Builders merchants open
Schools, libraries, churches, closed
Hair salons, nail places closed
No gatherings at all, public or private

One dog walk a day is fine ffs.

Piggywaspushed · 23/03/2020 21:38

bluntness, they really really aren't. They do this van sitting outside my living room window.

Eckhart · 23/03/2020 21:38

Eckhart- my response to that would be do you not have a garden? If not then you shouldn't have a dog. Simple

Codswallop.

BentNeckLady · 23/03/2020 21:39

My dog gets 3 half hour to 45 minutes walks a day, I'm quite happy to shorten them but you can't just take a dog out once a day, that's bloody cruel!

^

You’ll have to. Those are the rules. The government is quite correctly more concerned about people dying than your dogs exercise requirements.

ButiLoveHim32 · 23/03/2020 21:39

Me and my husband are both frontline NHS. He's a surgeon, I'm a nurse. I start work at 6pm and my mum comes to my house (57 fit and well) she puts kids dinner out and kids to bed until he is out of theater. Sometimes an hour, sometimes 6. Is this still allowed? I don't know how we will both do our jobs if it isn't. Currently day 6 self isolation as I believe our youngest has it. Getting her tested tomorrow.

BunnytheBee · 23/03/2020 21:40

Presumably furniture shops will close

If I ordered a sofa and it’s due to be delivered tomorrow, would you expect delivery to still happen?

JonnyPocketRocket · 23/03/2020 21:40

We're in the middle of house renovations - currently no working boiler in the house and an approx 2 metre square hole in the roof... it feels pretty essential to me to get those things fixed but is it? Will the builders turn up tomorrow? 🤔

LindaSmithfanclub · 23/03/2020 21:40

Gobsmacked that people are already quibbling and trying to do workarounds so that they can continue doing what they normally do.

Don't you understand that we are in the grip of a global pandemic and normal life is effectively suspended? It doesn't matter what you want, for the next few weeks or months your life is going to change.

BlackSwan · 23/03/2020 21:41

Just a walk with the dog is not really exercise.
Um, that's the only exercise I do.

RainMinusBow · 23/03/2020 21:41

Re the shared custody - I've got an emergency court hearing tomorrow as ex-husband has told me he is keeping our children "for the forseeable future." I'm 30 weeks' pregnant and genuinely don't feel I can carry on any more with the effect this is all having on my mental health.

2010Aussie · 23/03/2020 21:41

Lyra - B&Q is a hardware shop. A very big one admittedly. If you think it should be shut, I do hope that you don't have an emergency at home and the plumber/electrician etc can't fix it because they can't get the part

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 23/03/2020 21:42

No not "codswallop"

The fact is THESE ARE THE RULES

Follow them or more people will die.

I cannot put it any simpler than that and neither can the goverment

lilmishap · 23/03/2020 21:42

Holy Shit....You do not need to walk your dog multiple times in the same way you always have done MORE than other people need to not fucking die a horrible death.

If you were told "walk your dog once, if you bring the dog out again you'll get shot" you would find a way of coping with a dog that got walked once a day.

KittyMcTitty · 23/03/2020 21:42

Bloody hell @Eckhart put the dog in the garden for its shit - if you don’t have a garden don’t have a dog!

Quite right @Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady

This is ridiculous! Next you will be put in total lockdown as people have to go on 4 walks a day and couldn’t adhere to the reasonable rules to keep everyone safe!

Have a word with yourselves - it’s not cruel to only take a dog for a walk once a day it is cruel to put nhs staff lives at risk because you are a selfish self entitled prick!

lyralalala · 23/03/2020 21:43

@2010Aussie - I'm well aware of what B&Q is. There is a difference between a plumber getting supplies from somewhere and someone wandering down for paint to alleviate boredom
