Are these things allowed in lockdown?

These weren’t included in Boris’s list but are things affecting me currently:

Car due for mot Friday (need to wait til then for pay day). Need it to get to my essential job.

Hermes/other courier deliveries - I’ve sent loads of stuff this weekend that I sold on EBay. Non essential. Old baby toys. They’re waiting to be delivered to my buyers. Will they still be delivered or should I start refunding?

Actually the governments just issued on insta that you can go to work only if you’re a key worker. Which is not what Boris said. He said if it can’t be done from home. If it’s only key workers that means factories and offices shutting down. That’s going to take the economy down. Businesses will go bust. But he specifically stated if it can’t be done from home. Not just key workers.

Cinammoncake · 23/03/2020 21:43

If you have a dog needing more than one walk, then can't a neighbour walk the dog once as well, thereby the dog gets two walks and everyone gets some exercise. Simple.

danni0509 · 23/03/2020 21:43

@Zaalfruit I'm hoping so. I've had toothache since Friday, I feel your pain x

Xenia · 23/03/2020 21:43

Butilove, in my view yes as he expressly said for caring responsibilities you CAN go to someone. I assume that would be the same for a nanny going to a home each day of a doctor couple for whom she looks after the children otherwise there would be a lot of doctors unable to work as they would be looking after their toddlers instead.

The more I read this thread the more pissed off I get. How are some people so selfish? Yes it's shit and yes it does apply to you!! It applies to all of us!

@DobbyIsAFreeElf same here and I’m pregnant and desperate to get in hahaha!

Wakaranaihito · 23/03/2020 21:44

If you take Italy for a template garages stayed open and so did deliveries and takeaways etc. MOTs have been rolled over for 3 months for large good vehicles and HGVs etc - said that they are reviewing cars but so far it's ok. Hardware stores, pet shops and the Post Office can stay open. I think if people take the mick and throng then the diy stores etc might be closed in the future.

ihearttc · 23/03/2020 21:45

I need to drive about 50 miles tomorrow to take calpol and baby food to my sister as her 7 month old baby has a temperature (which we presume is teething related) so she is isolating anyway. She lives on her own and can’t get any delivered (yes she has tried) I take it I can’t do that! Just leaving bag on the door step and getting back in the car.

CaptainNelson · 23/03/2020 21:45

Rosedog Sorry but i have to agree with PPs, your dog really doesn't need 3 walks a day. Unless you have absolutely no access to a garden. One long walk is enough - not ideal, but enough. If you have no outside space for toileting, 2 walks, but do one either very early or very late so there is no risk of meeting other people.
We all have to change our behaviours, including our pets. I'm going out before 7am - live in countryside so I meet absolutely no-one. I run with the dog - she prefers walking, but I wait for her, do some stick throwing, etc; we both get some exercise and we're done before most people are up. There are ways to adapt to this situation without putting other people at risk.

MozzchopsThirty · 23/03/2020 21:45

Jesus there are some selfish twats on this thread

It's people like you that are going to kill thousands BECAUSE YOUR DOG LIKES 3 FUCKING WALKS

I'm an nhs worker, suck it up to save the rest of us

RitaConnors · 23/03/2020 21:45

There are loads of ways you can increase your heart rate at home if you can’t do it on your dog walk. Like skipping.

Autumndaysarehereagain · 23/03/2020 21:45

All these questions are the reason this has happened. Because people have been trying to get around the guidance or thinking it doesn’t apply to them.
Look at the exponential rise in infections and deaths, then look at the numbers in Italy and stay at home.

ShowYourself · 23/03/2020 21:46

People are dying, this is a pandemic, one walk a day for your dog is fine!!

NellyGrace · 23/03/2020 21:47

Lockdown is great for people who have no pets, hate exercise, fresh air, love watching tv - hate socialising etc But we all live our lives differently. Sorry to state the bleeding obvious but the way so many of you judge on you’d think this was some sort of competition.

The winners are those with the most boring lives and nothing to lose. Or those who love sticking extremely close to the rule book- the jobs worth lot.

Fairenuff · 23/03/2020 21:48

Do you want to kill people?

If the answer is no then follow the damn rules!

TheAwakening · 23/03/2020 21:48

Does anyone know what's allowed in Italy and France re: moving house? We're due to exchange and complete in the next few weeks and don't know if it will be allowed. Are moving companies allowed to keep working? Can we rent a van if not?

Woofwoofwooof · 23/03/2020 21:48

I'm assuming that I can't take my baby for a drive, we don't stop anywhere, just on a sleep inducing run round the local area. Obviously we don't come into contact with anyone but it feels contrary to these new rules.

KittyMcTitty · 23/03/2020 21:49

@NellyGrace no the winners are the ones that live

Seriously have a word with yourself

BiologyIsReal · 23/03/2020 21:49

FFS do posters expect him to have listed every bloody thing from your MOT to decorating to garages, to dog walking in a five minute address? He would have been on air for half an hour saying “and another thing and another thing” and the key messages would have been lost in the extraneous noise. Be reasonable. Details will follow.

Given the lack of gumption shown at the weekend by the park and beach walkers, who did not seem to understand the simple instruction to keep 2 metres apart, what hope would he had if had sounded like he was reading The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire?

Delatron · 23/03/2020 21:51

I guess with the dogs, different family members can take them out at the different times of the day.

2010Aussie · 23/03/2020 21:51

Hollyhead - Thank you for pointing out that life in the country is VERY different to the Big City. You hardly see anyone. I did a two hour walk at the weekend and saw 12 people. A neighbour did the same one today and met nobody.

As usual, Boris and his advisors see life through the prism of the city.

ButiLoveHim32 · 23/03/2020 21:52

My best friend and dh both work together. I can't tell you all how much I love these people. 7 little children between our 2 families who adore their parents. Doing jobs we all love. In their department they have been told, repeatedly, in their lock down meetings, that not all members of staff will make it out of this alive. Please read that, and let that sink in. Both houses discussing updating and sorting out wills. I'm sorry if exercise once a day isn't good enough, and I'm sorry if your boiler isn't working. But I don't want to die! I don't want my husband or my best friend to die. I don't want potentially 7 children left without parents because fucking Karen down the street wanted to paint the back room. NO ONE GIVES A FUCK. Honestly, I've never cared so much for the public but at the same time absolutely hated some of them.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 23/03/2020 21:52

Nelly

You could.not be.more wrong

I have a dog. There is nothing that makes me happier than being out in the countryside with him and my son.

However I will limit this (to once a day as instructed) so that I do not increase the risk of people losing their mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, son and daughters.

Why? BECAUSE IM NOT A SELFISH FUCK

NuclearWinter · 23/03/2020 21:53

This virus is bringing out the very worst nastiness in people.

Yes there are lots of questions. This is because people's lives got turned upside down only just over an hour ago and they are taking time to come to terms with that, testing and questioning the new way in their mind (and in writing)) as they do so. It's a normal way of mental processing.

The rules are the same for everyone but the impact won't be. Whatever the impact, it's made much easier by finding understanding and encouragement rather than someone using you as a punching bag for their own frustrations.
