Wasn't actually expecting it and feel quite upset.

I have 3 children, I don't know how this is going to work?

I'm waiting to see - I have an autoimmune condition and am on immunosuppressants. I've emailed my consultant to ask as, for me, the medication seems to improve my immune system rather than make it worse so shielding doesn't necessarily seem appropriate and will put a massive burden on family who I think are more vulnerable in reality. The deputy CMO did say they'd been over cautious - rightly - and there might be exceptions on a case by cases basis.

damnthatanxiety · 23/03/2020 14:42

I can see why you may be of concern. Take care and trust that even if you did get Cov-19 you will be fine. Just take extra precautions and don't be afraid to tell people to stay away.

thereisfreedomwithin · 23/03/2020 14:44

ah that must be unsettling. hang in there

GrumpyHoonMain · 23/03/2020 14:44

Technically all autoimmune conditions treated with immunosuppressants apply. For some conditions the drugs can be stopped temporarily - if that’s possible for you ask your GP for advice

Hippydoodledoo8 · 23/03/2020 14:45

Are all autoimmune conditions on the list of risk?

Crunchymum · 23/03/2020 14:46

psoriatic arthritis

I'm on ritiximab for an autoimmune disease and expecting the letter. It's shit but the alternative is worse. I have young kids and just can't quite see an end in sight. So scary but we just have to do the best we can Thanks

ClientQueen · 23/03/2020 14:46

@Hippydoodledoo8 I don't think so. I have a few but the neutropenia is a rare condition with a severe risk of infection/sepsis

BeyondMymymymyCorona · 23/03/2020 14:47

No text of doom as yet - think it might be as I'm in Wales?

mynameiscalypso · 23/03/2020 14:47

Me too @Crunchymum - are you on any medication?

dingit · 23/03/2020 14:49

Yes I have on behalf of my dm. I've not shown it to her as I can see how worried she is Sad

Falangalangadingdang · 23/03/2020 14:49

I've seen texts from others in support groups this morning.

QuillBill · 23/03/2020 14:50

Seeing it written down like that 'stay at home for a minimum of 12 weeks' must be distressing even if you do know it's coming.

GabsAlot · 23/03/2020 14:51

im sure at the press conferenced they said it wasnt for all people on immunsuppressants correct me if im wrong

YeahYou · 23/03/2020 14:51

Affected asthmatics

Anyone else received the text to self-isolate for 12 weeks? ***title edited at OP's request***
CeibaTree · 23/03/2020 14:51

Are you on medication OP? - it could be the effects of that vs Coronavirus rather than the condition itself..

HRH2020 · 23/03/2020 14:52

The deputy CMO did say at the press conference they were possibly overestimating who is in the shielded group and that people would be able to discuss their individual circumstances with their doctor.

ArtisanBreadBin · 23/03/2020 14:53

@YeahYou could you give a bit more context? If you're on them you're shielded?

Devlesko · 23/03/2020 14:54

I hope you are alright, my love.
Did it actually tell you what/ what not to do, details etc.
I'm trying to work out from the message I got whether I'm likely to receive a letter, or further text.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/03/2020 14:55

Some mention on the asthmatics thread that some gps are not following the advice mentioned on the asthma uk site (and on that table of meds above) as law and not sending letters to them unless it's recorded they have an official diagnosis of 'severe' or 'brittle' asthma.
I tick 3 separate boxes listed on the asthma site, but no text yet .

poppym12 · 23/03/2020 14:56

Thanks for posting the list of medications @YeahYou. I presume that if you take any of these the isolation recommendation will be applicable? I have COPD and asthma but quite mild. My clenil is 100mcg x 2 twice daily plus salamol.

kirstinm · 23/03/2020 15:00

@GrumpyHoonMain This is not true and to be honest I don't think you should be spreading that idea. Coming from my rheumatologist this morning (and there is also detailed information about it on rheumatology.org) it's only certain medications, and even then sometimes only at certain doses, this even applies for steroids. It's far more complex and individual than you are making it out to be.

ALemonyPea · 23/03/2020 15:02

Yes me, was promptly sent home from work. Quite upset, but relieved at the same time.

mynameiscalypso · 23/03/2020 15:06

I found this on rheumatology.org which gives some clarity:

This is the information on the rheumatology website if it helps anyone.
