Wasn't actually expecting it and feel quite upset.

I have 3 children, I don't know how this is going to work?

My poor mum is eligible for 4 fucking letters, though obviously only received one. She has to have community nurses in her house to dress and check some of her issues. They are now doing this once a week rather than every two days at least, which will minimise infection risk.

She's only 50. Today I made arrangements for my children to be looked after, so if she catches it, I can look after her until she is ill enough to be allowed in hospital. Her consultant was blunt; if she gets this, she will die. There will be comfort care, but she will die. I have never been more fucking scared. I'm not ready to lose my mum.

FourTeaFallOut · 23/03/2020 18:49

Montelukast. I tried that but it made me wheeze more 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hoggleludo · 23/03/2020 18:52

I've just received this text!

I can't even get my medication. Dr thinks I need to be in hospital. Pleaded not to go. She said only if my pulse went down could I stay home. Gave me some tablets. Husband is away. Couldn't get the tablets. Some kind man offered and got them for me. The pharmacy gave him the wrong medication!!! I asked if they could deliver on Monday. Today came. At 5.30 they still weren't here. I rang them. They said they tried my door 4 times. I said I have a gate. Which is connected to my phone. So he was lying. They've refused to deliver them now

I rang the drs in tears. Asking how I could get my medication. They had no answers

So here I am. Sick. Alone. And no medication that will keep me out of hospital.

I'm exhausted. Saddened.

So much confusion. Any advice?
My inhaler is on the list - Relvar Ellipta 184/22. I don’t take anything else apart from my blue reliever (salbutamol) as and when needed.
Does that mean I should expect contact from my GP?
I’m 60 and work on a till in one of the big supermarkets. I really don’t want to continue being so exposed to hundreds of people. My supermarket is waiting to see what the government decides to do before saying people like me can stay home.

InTheBlinkOfAnEye · 23/03/2020 19:01

@Hoggleludo

So sorry to hear this. I know it’s not ideal, but you might be better off in hospital.

I got the text, didn't expect it and not entirely sure I qualify to be honest. Have had very sporadic asthma, sometimes going a decade between an attack. The last time was in 2018, had no inhalers at home and ended up being hopitalised and given oxygen, predinose and an antibiotic (x-ray showed chest infection). I was prescribed Forstair 2x100 and have a blue reliever. I rarely need to used them.

I live alone, staying at home for 12 weeks is out of the question. Nice that we're allowed to open the windows though. Christ.

Thankyou @AlunWynsKnee @woodchuck99. Do you know if this means people who were able to stay off work because of previous instructions will now have to go back to work?
A lot of people are very confused now.

AlunWynsKnee · 23/03/2020 19:21

I don't think so @Anydreamwilldo12. You're supposed to be doing stringent social distancing.

IrmaFayLear · 23/03/2020 19:23

People who didn't get the text and are saying "Why not me?" need their heads examining.

It's horrible. I'd give anything not to have received it.

Ninjava · 23/03/2020 19:37

I’ve had the text. Autoimmune condition for which I take 160mg azathioprine daily and 5mg prednisolone on alternate days. No idea how I’m supposed to actually follow this recommend - my husband works in the emergency services, I have two small children and a dog to look after. I can’t go hiding in my bedroom for the next 12 weeks!

Anydreamwilldo12 · 23/03/2020 19:37

Thanks again @AlunWynsKnee. The information online is conflicting with no real answer from Diabetes Uk apart from advising you come to some arrangement with your Employer which is ok if your Employer is decent and understanding. Many are not unfortunately.

Sweatheart · 23/03/2020 19:45

@blondiney

Take the asthma UK advice with a pinch of salt - they've been really reckless releasing this. Guidelines in scotland are currently shielding only if you have been hospitalised or take oral steroids. That list doesnt appear to apply.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 23/03/2020 19:48

Definitive online info about whether we would get the letter/text would be useful. NHS Wales online sends you to Asthma uk's site. Which tells me I have 3 indicators, 4 if you include the fact I still use my blue inhaler regularly.
I'm on a strong combi inhaler. I take montelukast. I've had 2 courses of steroids.

I don't want the letter, but don't want to be not given the advice that's best for me iyswim.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 23/03/2020 19:50

My DDs dad had his text this morning. I am dreading telling her. She will not be able to see her dad. 3 months is a long time for his health condition. He called me today in tears!

Then a few hours later my DP had his text. I feel sick! DD has a sore throat and a blocked nose. She is managing to clear it with a good blow! I just feel like I am playing a waiting game. This is horrible. I have cried so much the last 48 hours.

My wonderful dad and step mum (they are not all evil) just dropped off shopping for us. We were out the windows. All I wanted to do was hug my dad and him tell me it was all going to be ok.

Like the rest of the world I am scared! I want to scream when I see people letting their kids play in park. I want to scream at people who are queuing in shops crammed together!

I believe Lockdown will happen tonight! I don't blame Boris, he has tried to tell people to keep their distance but people think they know better! Bloody stupid people!

Blondiney · 23/03/2020 19:50

Thanks @Sweatheart, that makes a bit more sense than the misleading asthma UK list.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 23/03/2020 19:50

Sorry, I went off on a tangent then.

inchoccyheaven · 23/03/2020 19:53

I had the text while i was at work today and was quite upset about it really. I have chrons on 150mg azathioprine daily and infliximab drip every 8 weeks but generally feel ok so was planning on just keep working as long as we could stay open.

My dw has rheumatoid arthritis and also got a call from her docs so we are both off now.
I can only see we will get ssp which is worrying.
All the advice is don't go out at all even for shopping etc but if this is the case why are supermarkets having elderly and vulnerable hours ?

FFSStayAtHome · 23/03/2020 20:05

Anyone without a spleen got a text and/or have all the texts been sent?

Am worried about being included in this...

FourTeaFallOut · 23/03/2020 20:10

I got a text. I'm asthmatic. I have ventolin, seretide and spiriva if that helps anyone and no recent admissions or oral steroids.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 23/03/2020 20:14

My husband got it. It also says that he can't even go out in the garden, and he has to stay 3 steps away from everyone in the house. How the fuck is that meant to work then??

OrganTransplant123 · 23/03/2020 20:19

It’s ridiculous guidance. Stay 2 metres from people you live with. Whoever wrote that does not have children and lives in a massive house.

I got one but expected to.

woodchuck99 · 23/03/2020 20:21

If they isolate with you then you don't need to distance yourself from them.

CatkinToadflax · 23/03/2020 20:22

My text arrived about half an hour ago. Asthma: montelukast, duoresp spiromax and spiriva (tiotropium bromide). I was naively hoping not to fall into the very high risk group. Bloody hell.

OrganTransplant123 · 23/03/2020 20:23

Yes but what about food? If we all stay in then for 12 weeks we have to rely on other people to drop enough food to feed a family of 4. The guidance also states that you must not leave your house but you can open a window!
