So far I’ve thought of:

Drug addicts that normally shop lift to get money, what will they do?

People living a double life, they’ll have to choose one family to isolate with.

Err that’s all I can think of, but surely there’s more?

Those saying less burglary. Maybe household but after shutting on Friday my. DS 1 had to go in and do a deep clean and stock take and from today DS1 & DS2 have been asked to go into work to prevent burglaries. They are expected to be on premises for 8 hr shifts with another shift manager. DS1 has had to go on sick leave as he cannot take the risk. DS2 is on holiday( staycation as holiday abroad cancelled) so is hoping they have a rethink about it.

Less young people going to university for the next 3 or so years. Parents who have lost their jobs and the self-employed may have too much debt/low income to assist financially. Their DC might naturally think that getting a job and wages straight from school/sixth form is a necessity.
Some universities will disappear anyway because they won't have as much income from overseas students, particularly China.
People will try to avoid credit card debt in the future, due to the stress repayments are causing now.

PhoneTwattery · 23/03/2020 05:54

Street sex workers. If people don’t continue to visit them what would they do for additional income? If people do still visit them they will be higher risk than usual.

Sally2791 · 23/03/2020 05:56

Hadn’t thought about it but yes, some universities are very reliant on foreign students.

Gingerkittykat · 23/03/2020 05:58

It won't just be seagulls from the coast, it will be urban ones too. There will be no more dropped kebabs, people eating Greggs sausage rolls in the high street and drunken vomit for them to eat.

I predict they will become more aggressive before the population declines.

Tescodelivery · 23/03/2020 06:00

Children in abusive homes have no escape. Same for adults in abusive relationships. I actual can't get that out of my head.

I was saying the same at work.
I can't bear to think about it.

Tescodelivery · 23/03/2020 06:01

What will happen to heroin addicts if they can't get supplied?

Do you think drug dealers will suddenly start obeying rules of society?! If they have stock, they will continue to sell.

Mamibaer · 23/03/2020 06:02

Rise in PND as first time mums are unable to get out for a break or to make friends with other new mums.

fromlittleacorns · 23/03/2020 06:03

Decline in city flats being used for air b'n'b instead of long term rentals - if less international travel?
or will it carry on, but with UK people doing holidays in UK instead of going abroad as previously?

Eczema will prevail

barbsbarbs · 23/03/2020 06:32

hopefully there will be positives for the environment, give earth that breathing space

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 23/03/2020 06:34

The end of cheap travel. Popularity of cruises fall. Make do and mend become a necessity rather than something cool. ( I know I’ve repaired quite a few things I’ve been meaning to)

DMJ6789 · 23/03/2020 06:44

Suicide rates will increase

Pixxie7 · 23/03/2020 06:47

More suicides.

Stupidanduseless · 23/03/2020 06:49

People will die of treatable things and chronic illnesses as medication becomes scarce.

When this is over only ‘healthy’ people who aren’t dependent on medication will survive. Not because of covid-19 but because the social and economic breakdown will kill off the rest.

FannyCann · 23/03/2020 07:21

People will die of treatable things and chronic illnesses as medication becomes scarce.

I do wonder how the statistics are going to be reported as time goes on. X number dying of coronavirus. Will get any sort of accurate idea of the number of incidental deaths of people not getting the treatment they need that the nhs normally provides?

Already I believe some newly diagnosed cancer patients are being advised to have radiotherapy as a first line of treatment and to hold off chemotherapy (rather than the preferred chemo 1st followed by radiotherapy) as it isn't safe to risk making them immuno-suppressed.

Veronicat · 23/03/2020 07:23

@thecatneuterer We are still open and still doing operations. We also have implemented payment plans so people can get the treatment they need. Our practice have all offered to work in two part time teams to keep wage bills down so we can remain open to help animal's in need.

HelgaHere1 · 23/03/2020 08:40

As I understand it people pay taxes on their earnings which is used to provide state pensions for the retired. If only say half the population are still earning and earning enough to pay a decent amount of tax where will the money come from for pensions!

FannyCann · 23/03/2020 09:05

There's going to be a lot more clean shaven men around, at least among healthcare workers. Beards and effective masks don't go together. Colleagues are shaving off their beards. Even though DH is not a healthcare worker, and is working from home and at minimal risk and not fitted for a mask, having heard this news he asks "should I shave off my beard" about 50 times a day.

Yeafortwo · 23/03/2020 09:12

I'm not a cat person particularly but can complete understand if an individual is passionate about their welfare

Pyong you are irrationally angry about another person caring more about cats than humans? You can care about both or either you know and those caring priorities are equally valid. You need to dial back your vitriol.

sueelleker · 23/03/2020 09:14

I'm wondering about Travellers. They're not very popular at the best of times, so I can imagine lynch mobs if they start turning up outside towns and cities.

thecatneuterer · 23/03/2020 09:19

Do you think drug dealers will suddenly start obeying rules of society?! If they have stock, they will continue to sell

Will they still have stock though? Doesn't crack/coke/heroin require stuff to be smuggled in from abroad? It will still be possible in cargo, of course, but with international travel grinding to a halt there won't be the individual mules anymore probably.

HelgaHere1 · 23/03/2020 09:20

I think god was looking down on earth and watching the homeless numbers rise, the uber rich get richer and richer, the gender id's people screaming for their rights, the racism (still), the damage to the earth and its animals - and thought f you lot - I'll give you something to bluddy worry about.
Sorry - not the correct thread but a pop up newsfeed just came up on another page and they're still going on about Meghan and Harry and other bollox. Really - sort your priorities please!

CoughsAndSneezesSpreadDiseases · 23/03/2020 09:22

*So fuck the humans, make sure the cats are ok?

You need help. Seriously.*

The sheer irony of this statement amazes me.

On one hand we have a poster who loves cats and looks after them. No evidence at all that she does anything to negatively impact humans in any way.

On the other we have a poster aggressively accusing the first of needing help - and in doing so, acting in a way which actually DOES make a human's life a little bit worse.
