So far I’ve thought of:

Drug addicts that normally shop lift to get money, what will they do?

People living a double life, they’ll have to choose one family to isolate with.

Err that’s all I can think of, but surely there’s more?

OP posts:
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 23/03/2020 09:26

There will be a lot more alcoholics
Theft will go thro gh the roof with all the shops closed, perfect time to break into them.
Abuse and suicide rate will rise.

thecatneuterer · 23/03/2020 09:29

and in doing so, acting in a way which actually DOES make a human's life a little bit worse. Thanks for your support but the irrationally angry bemuse rather than upset me. No harm done :)

CrystalAlligator · 23/03/2020 09:50

Yeafortwo

It’s pretty clear from her deciding to attack another human and try make her day that little bit worse (for caring about a living being!) that PyongyangKipperbang cares not about either animals or humans.

She’s not really in a position to judge others!

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 09:54

More crime is inevitable : I'm actually more scared of that than being ill.
We may get a better funded police service out of this eventually but this takes money and that will be in short supply. 10 years of havoc is my prediction. I am really worried for our safety. This pandemic could not have come at a worse time for the U.K.

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 09:57

I hope that the entitlement that some people have might decrease. The me me me attitude might tail off but I'm not that confident.
Material things are more important to many than other people.

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 09:59

The police will be more stretched than ever before. I predict that by the summer the nhs staff might get a bit of respite ( I hope)!but the police will be much busier than ever as tensions rise.

choli · 23/03/2020 10:09

People will die of treatable things and chronic illnesses as medication becomes scarce.
So normal life for most of the world.

BMW6 · 23/03/2020 10:19

I was musing earlier how those that are high maintenance with their appearance will cope -

No fake tan
No manicures
No eyebrow shaping
No waxing
No teeth whitening
No haircuts or colours

Of course people could DIY, but not likely to make a good job of it without a lot of practice

I wonder if, when "normal" life resumes, some people won't emerge from isolation until they've managed to get appointments for whatever, and when they DO come out they'll have a bag on their head

lilmishap · 23/03/2020 10:22

Online Dark net drug markets are going to be raking it in.

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 10:27

I was booked in for eyebrow tint. The lady phoned me on Saturday to cancel so apologetic! I said I felt sorry for her : she has two beauty salons and had to lay off staff yet she is saying sorry to me!
It's not her fault and my eyebrows can wait

It pisses me off that just because it’s worse for others worldwide that it’s ok for it to be the same here. Maybe I should have refused to be treated with insulin from the start as I’m so privileged. Honest to god. How stupid of me. Because other people die from it in other places let’s not treat things anywhere. I get I’ve been lucky, it’s no less horrific that my children won’t have a mother tbh.

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 10:38

Stupid, please don't. My sil did this a few years back and it caused so much heartache for family and friends. This situation will pass. It's nobody's fault.
It's a tough time for everyone.

Stupidanduseless · 23/03/2020 10:38

I suspect if it were you or your child you’d take the medication. Or would you have said - no we are privileged and everyone else has to suffer so we will too, let’s not get treated. Let me assure you dying of DKA is horrific. Your blood turns to acid. Silly me for wanting that not to happen.

I’m not easily annoyed but that’s really put my back up.

lilmishap · 23/03/2020 10:38

They'll be a generation of kids who Gamed/youtubed from the moment their eyes opened until sleepytime for however long this lasts

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 10:46

The kids have been screwed over by this.
It's awful.

RadioRodeo · 23/03/2020 10:52

People living a double life, they’ll have to choose one family to isolate with.

I'm 100% sure the new boyfriend of a close friend (who is married with kids) is NOT getting divorced as he's told her, and is in fact still keeping the marriage going as well as living with my friend during the week.

I have wondered if this will situation 'out' him, but feel for my friend. No one needs additional heartache right now.

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 23/03/2020 10:58

Not a whole generation @lilmishap Grin

Some of us will really try.

Carm10 · 23/03/2020 11:02

i have been thinking that there is going to be an increase in crime soon. Drugs are not so easily available due to travel restrictions. So not only the junkies themselves might be acting more erratically but think of all the criminal gangs, not getting their usual money influx (from whatever is that they do, i suppose human trafficking & prostitution is harder in these times too) :-S If the situation continues for long the government will have to give an universal living wage. People cannot live on 90 pounds a week and people is going to do things out of desperation...

Hoggleludo · 23/03/2020 11:04

There's been weird thing. Like the canal in Venice are blue again because people are throwing shit into them etc. Things like that. There's another one. But I can't remember it's

lilmishap · 23/03/2020 11:09

My oldest son spent 4hours on YouTube yesterday Confused BlushI kept telling myself "he'll get bored watching Minecraft 'how to build' videos in a minute, he'll get bored in a minute".... Then I told him the internet has been switched off for the night because of Corona.

That will be happening every night and during the day as well, it's the government saving resources obviously.
I never realised how much swimming and the weekend 'going out for a bit' routine mattered..

Carm10 · 23/03/2020 11:09

another consequence: Courts are closed. A friend was going to get some compensation due to negligence, now the other party are dragging their heels and the solicitor has advised to settle for a percentage of what they were asking, because realistically whenever courts open again, they will have a backlog. Defending solicitors know it and are taking advantage of this.

inmyshedsmoking2000 · 23/03/2020 11:12

Men won't be able to use prostitutes...

Packingsoapandwater · 23/03/2020 11:16

I think it is the end of the second age of globalisation. Interestingly, the first age ended, more or less, a century ago.

It has become obvious that extensive global supply lines are dangerously fragile and susceptible to crisis, and many trade models are not particularly resilient. It's also clear that certain economic behaviours are not viable in crisis.

I predict the following...

  • Significant amounts of industry returning from China, and the cost of goods increasing to allow for Western labour costs.
  • The nationalisation of many transport networks. Depending on how serious this gets, we could even see the partial nationalisation of a supermarket or distributor.
  • The start of the end of the EU as European countries react to Coronavirus by restricting exports. We are already seeing this with France preventing the export of face masks that have been ordered by other European countries.
  • The end of annual migratory flows.
  • The possible introduction of a citizens income.
  • The end of the high street and the growth of very localised commerce hubs (from "town" back to "village").
TempsPerdu · 23/03/2020 11:17

Teachers of the new Reception cohort in 3 or 4 years time will notice a significant dip in social and communication skills.

Widening inequality of outcomes for children depending even more on parental resources and input at home.

The obesity epidemic will dramatically worsen.

Outbreaks of rickets due to chronic vitamin D deficiency?

The sadly obvious eg increased rates of domestic abuse, higher suicide rate, long-term mental health issues etc.
