So far I’ve thought of:

Drug addicts that normally shop lift to get money, what will they do?

People living a double life, they’ll have to choose one family to isolate with.

Err that’s all I can think of, but surely there’s more?

*my dad - not medal

Years worth of tobacco stains will be removed from fingers after hour upon hour of vigorous washing.

Sadly not. My late mother was obsessive about hygiene, to MN-levels (she was disgusted by toilet brushes, for example) Grin and a hardened 40-a-day smoker. She used to regularly make up a weak bleach solution (I don't know the exact recipe) and steep her fingertips in it to get the yellow stains out of her skin. If just handwashing did it, she'd have managed it.

Hopefully pet food will come back quickly into the stores and online shops as there is no reason for the supply disappearing other than panic buying.

PotholeParadise · 23/03/2020 03:44

Schadenfreude

PM'd you.

FedupwithCFs · 23/03/2020 03:49

Hopefully there will not be a baby boom! The nhs is kind of busy with other stuff right now!

PyongyangKipperbang · 23/03/2020 03:54

I do think that there will be a baby boom. Enforced coupledom coupled with "It'll be ok"/pulling out/time of the month sex, not being able to get injections/implants, and not thinking to get condoms when out panic buying makes it inevitable. And how will terminations be accesible when clinics and GPs are closing?

PotholeParadise · 23/03/2020 03:57

Yes, I think so too. Bloody glad I have a copper coil at the moment. Getting new prescriptions of the pill would be a challenge.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 23/03/2020 04:04

Pothole

Nothing has come through yet. Slow internet?

The80sweregreat · 23/03/2020 04:11

I'm shocked that the DM comments pages are very pro staying at home and how bad this is. Tide has turned there a bit.

Me too, well Mirena, it does the job almost as well as not being able to see my BF as we are both SI!

pintoffginplz · 23/03/2020 04:29

I wonder how all the 'influences' and z list celebs are going to make money on insta. All they do is plug companies, or go on holidays. No one gives a crap atm that some random clothes, home or tech online shop have fabulous discounts huns 😁 and to swipe up for the linky to buy this gorgeous body suit so small it will give you a yeast infection.

PotholeParadise · 23/03/2020 04:30

Schadenfreude I've tried again!

GattinaGattona · 23/03/2020 04:40

🤣

FannyCann · 23/03/2020 04:42

They might have to get a "proper" job, if that can find one. Smile

CrystalAlligator · 23/03/2020 04:45

Trust me junkies will always get drugs.

Not necessarily. With borders closed and travel restricted the number of drugs coming into the country has already diminished (anecdotally from listening to drug users), far more difficult to get hold of heroin so prices have shot up and people are desperate. There’s only so many drugs to go around and currently more demand than supply.

I can’t find it now but a university published guidelines for people with substance use problems on how to stay safe during all of this: stock up if possible, try ration not binge, prepare for unwanted withdrawal practically and emotionally, and be aware that the early symptoms of WD can be similar to those of the virus snd if you’re withdrawing you’re likely to be more susceptible to greater harm if you do catch it. Troubling times for everyone.

PyongyangKipperbang you’re being so unnecessarily nasty. You can care about many things at once. Maybe have a go at people who act like they don’t care about anyone or anything right now (those idiots getting manicures in packed salons for example), rather than trying to inflict nastiness on someone for caring about cats. What do you get out of being this way?

GattinaGattona · 23/03/2020 04:51

There will be more wildlife in urban areas
Recession and low house prices
More altruism
Baby boom
More divorces
Lots of holidays and travel booked
More claustrophobics
More agoraphobics
More respect for nhs staff, carers, teachers, supermarket staff etc
Less fast fashion
Less pollution
More flowers ✌🏼🌷

PyongyangKipperbang · 23/03/2020 05:05

Recession and low house prices - Recession yes but I am doubtful on the low house prices. I suspect that the market will stall and only pick up after the inevitable interest rate hike has peaked and started to fall again

More altruism - Well fingers crossed but based on current behaviour I cant help thinking that the good will do even more than they have always done, as will the assholes so it will all even out.

Baby boom - Yep

More divorces - Again, not sure on this one. Could be that people forced to spend time together may work stuff out instead of avoiding each other and walking away, could be a spike at first but then even out.

Lots of holidays and travel booked - I think that there will be lots of browsing but not much booking, just in case

More respect for nhs staff, carers, teachers, supermarket staff etc - There will but sadly I think only in the short term, we have short memories. Those that always valued these jobs will still do so but the assholes will only respect them until they cant get an appointment at X Ray when it suits or the school has an inset day......

Less fast fashion - only until Primarni is back up and running

Less pollution - again, only short term sadly.

More flowers - lets hope so

Children in abusive homes have no escape

This is what worries me so much.

Surely it's nigh impossible to safeguard against, under strict lockdown conditions?
Anyone on here work in child protection and can give some insight?

FannyCann · 23/03/2020 05:06

@Hollyhobbi

are you sure there were no Corona Virus patients in the hospital two weeks ago?

I meant she was ahead of the wave. Also she had been in a single room, so hopefully avoided exposure. Cases have increased markedly since she was discharged last Tuesday. Fingers crossed as it will be bad for the nursing home if she has taken infection out with her.

PyongyangKipperbang · 23/03/2020 05:07

@CrystalAlligator

What do I get out of being pissed off that thousands, including members of every family in the UK, are at risk of a very horrible death but some people are only losing sleep over hypothetical animals? Nothing, but anger. Yes we can all care about more than one thing at once, but to only care to the point of insomnia about a cat rather than 85 year old Mrs Jones who cant get food to feed herself is fucked up.

FredaFrogspawn · 23/03/2020 05:17

You should examine why you are so angry at our differences. Animals bring so much pleasure and company to many.

PieceOfMaria · 23/03/2020 05:23

A few people will fracture their hip or break a leg by doing that stupid fairy liquid and kitchen floor treadmill thing. It’s funny on Facebook but not at all sensible in real life.

CrystalAlligator · 23/03/2020 05:28

PyongyangKipperbang

Why are you the way that you are?

HelgaHere1 · 23/03/2020 05:32

Rats and feral foxes that lived on chips and pizza are going to go hungry - hmmmm. Probably not a good scenario in cities.
And seagulls on the coast - no scraps to steal from rubbish bins.
