So far I’ve thought of:

Drug addicts that normally shop lift to get money, what will they do?

People living a double life, they’ll have to choose one family to isolate with.

Err that’s all I can think of, but surely there’s more?

Friday and Saturday nights are usually a great strain on A & E depts due to drinking, fighting, drug taking so I'd be interested to know what the effect of shutting pubs and clubs will be having.
Offset I know by the horrendous strain that Coronavirus is having on the NHS as a whole.
Lockdown will have an effect on crime rates. Muggings, assaults, etc won't be happening if nobody is allowed to leave their houses and murder, especially knife crime amongst the young will rapidly drop.

Sadly domestic abuse will skyrocket Angry

Leostar · 22/03/2020 21:29

You don't die from heroin withdrawal. It feels like shit apparently but isn't dangerous......alcohol withdrawal however can kill.

Nitpickpicnic · 22/03/2020 21:30

We’ll all realise that letting your grey hair grow through doesn’t make the sky fall in. Ditto all that maintenance of eyebrows, waxing & nails. No choice but to face life ‘au natural’ for a long time!

kylamsham · 22/03/2020 21:33

Newborn breastfeeding rates higher, with the lack of formula on the shelves?

Hassled · 22/03/2020 21:33

I was wondering about County Lines / drug rings. Will that just die a death?

MadeForThis · 22/03/2020 21:33

I've wondered what will happen to global warming due to less pollution.

I0NA · 22/03/2020 21:36

All the drug users I know ( through work! ) get their money from begging. I don’t know what they will be doing now as town centres are very quiet.

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 22/03/2020 21:36

I was wondering what would happen to affairs

Possibly increase.. my brother was today talkng to a married woman on tinder who wanted to come round in the day for some 'fun' when her husband was at work and she was supposed to be wfh (brother wfh). She's definitely taking advantage of the fact that most people are wfh at the moment.

Not sure my brother is taking the advice on social distancing very seriously if he is having some random come round his flat for a shag!

NeedToKnow101 · 22/03/2020 21:37

TRA will STFU.
I'm hoping no stranger or 'date rape' so sexual offences will go right down.
Also hoping that knife crime will go down.

villanova · 22/03/2020 21:40

I was worried for the homeless in our town centres - with fewer people passing by (no shops open, people who live there not able to go out) they won't get spare change or food/ drinks bought for them. Will they be able to go to shelters, or what are the other alternatives??

NowSissyThatWalk · 22/03/2020 21:40

Such interesting thoughts here. I was wondering the same thing about affairs. I'm a police officer and do wonder what the crime stats will be in a years time.

userxx · 22/03/2020 21:40

Alcohol dependency will rocket.

This. I spoke to two people today who had poured a glass of wine before 11.30am.

newmobile · 22/03/2020 21:41

Yes thought of drug addicts not being able to get their drugs in event of lockdown. Also rats moving out of town centres as all the restaurants are closed and moving out to the suburbs where the food is.

PicsInRed · 22/03/2020 21:42

For sadly very many women, there will be psychological violence and beatings on the menu, along with rape and unwanted pregnancy - at a time when there is little to no access to contraception or abortion services.

Some women will die as a result. If millions are dying of pandemic, my fear is that domestic violence, rape and murder will be shunted aside as an inconvenience for the duration.

Graft · 22/03/2020 21:42

Introverts will rule the world.

Siameasy · 22/03/2020 21:42

Hopefully “woke” nonsense will be forgotten ie people going on crusades because someone was offended. A sense of perspective will hopefully be gained and the courage to tell people to F off

UnrulySalvia · 22/03/2020 21:45

Definitely a rise in domestic violence and alcohol problems at home, sadly.

On the positive side, there are going to be a lot of beautiful gardens this year. Also more people taking up growing their own veg.

StrawberryJam200 · 22/03/2020 21:45

PicsInRed sadly I believe you’re right.

marmitepasta · 22/03/2020 21:46

To the person who said everyone's houses will spotlessly clean. We've been on lockdown for a week (France) and I can assure you that my house is far from spotless!!! Dc constantly here creating havoc does but lens itself well to a clean house.

UnrulySalvia · 22/03/2020 21:49

@NowSissyThatWalk I strongly suspect that reported crime will go down a lot, but it will be interesting to see the national crime survey (including unreported crime).

Are you in uniform policing? How has it been so far (if you don't mind me asking)?

joystir59 · 22/03/2020 21:50

Have people been panic buying condoms and live I wonder?

StrandedStarfish · 22/03/2020 21:50

There will be queues for the council tip

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 22/03/2020 21:51

We are going to get fat and unhealthy.

We will know everybody's real hair colour though.

cologne4711 · 22/03/2020 21:51

Lots of babies in 9 months time

I really really really hope people will be more sensible than this. There wasn't a shortage of condoms last time I was in Superdrug (admittedly about 10 days ago now).

Quarantino · 22/03/2020 21:51

Air quality might improve with less people commuting.
Although they're all going on day trips to the beach to make sure this virus spreads to as many people as possible, so probably not.

Goes without saying but less free time for parents (at a time when everyone on social media is 'wondering how to kill the time') - occupying kids who would otherwise be in school, trying to work out how to get the essential groceries takes way more time now, extra handwashing and hygiene.
