SleepingStandingUp · 22/03/2020 20:51

They've announced theyll be closed by tomorrow night.
I feel sad for the thousands of staff but also for us thst we've lost another part of our lives, my DS loves MacDonalds, it's part of our aider routine and something tbsts just for us that it's gone now. Not even like we can go for one last happy meal

I hope the lovely staff can pick up work in the supermarkets

I work for them and honestly it was horrible to hear. I kept flashing back to being made redundant from another job. In one sense I'm glad, because some of the customers have been so nasty (and scary!) but I'm also feeling totally lost and worried.

CoffeeAndDryShampoo · 22/03/2020 21:10

OP you can get the cardboard type happy meal boxes online. Not the same as the real thing I know but you could make them up at home as a substitute?

transformandriseup · 22/03/2020 21:12

I was never a fan but DN just started working there and she was loving it :(

SleepingStandingUp · 22/03/2020 21:13

@Tescodelivery he eats orally, but he barely ate at all when I went in for me and he ate a chip, and then a bit more. Now he eats a piece of the nice chicken, some wrap, some fries and the water. He has milk through his tube to supplement his oral intake. He has negative associations with food so anything that makes it folun and safe is good

@JuanSheetIsPlenty we can't NOW, he's been school since Tuesday but we went in before Corona and I was going to get a delivery this week

Forgive me for asking OP, because I don't know anything about tube feeding.

But how does a tube fed child eat McDonald's? Or is it that only some of his feeding is through a tube?

QuestionableMouse · 22/03/2020 21:13

Honestly if you go in tomorrow and ask they'll probably give you a stack of happy meal boxes. Depending on the manager you might get a handful of toys too.

WorraLiberty · 22/03/2020 21:13

Sorry, X posted.

Don’t go near the place! It will be teeming with people getting their last Mcds before it closes. You have a high risk child. Think smart.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/03/2020 21:16

He won't be fooled by the box lol, I'm gonna pop in lunchtime if it isn't too busy but there's tons of germy teens and we're on semi lockdown as he is on o2 so he DEF isn't going near

It had to close to stop people coming. I see you and your DS have a close bond with McDonalds, many just go for food and socialising.
Usually teens hang around it for daily milkshakes. I'm glad they've closed down stop unnecessary socialising spreading germs. It won't be forever.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 22/03/2020 21:17

Shit? My son and his partner work for them. Hourly paid and just bought their first house!

ChloeTousignant · 22/03/2020 21:18

The same as some kids can't walk well, some kids can't eat enough to keep them alive. So they're tube fed.
A lot of tube fed kids can still eat regular food, their body just needs more /more regular, consistent nutrition or it won't work properly.

SleepingStandingUp · 22/03/2020 21:18

T Juan, I need to go out for bread so will do a walk past and suss it out but yeah, I'm not queuing by people.

@Babysharkdoodoodood it's so scary. My business manager has processed everyone's holiday pay so we're getting that and he's going to update us tomorrow with a plan for pay. I don't even know how long we're going to be closed.

Got a cleaning shift tomorrow then staying on to help shut the place down.

Cryalot2 · 22/03/2020 21:26

I will miss it, we are older but every week we go to a lovely place and walk our dog . We stop at McDonald's usually sitting in and having a plain simple meal with teas. We can use their great toilets and internet .
Yesterday we had a carry out and it seemed like the rest of the regulars were doing the same .
This helped us greatly mentally. We are all in the at risk category, but not getting out will affect our mental health greatly. A simple walk somewhere nice with a small treat meal made so much difference mentally.
There is no joy in living with a lot of dead and no help. We can't even have counselling.

TotesGodsWill · 22/03/2020 21:28

It makes sense, if everyone is supposed to be avoiding unnecessary social contact, well McDonalds is always going to be unnecessary social contact. Obviously they tried to avoid closing by going to takeaway and drive thru only but too many people are idiots so it’s not worth it.

Maladymaker · 22/03/2020 21:29

I have cried a bit about McDonald's closing. Such a reliable fixture throughout my life Sad

Cheeryandmerry · 22/03/2020 21:29

My son has a student job there. I’m actually pleased they’ve done this, it’s the most responsible thing to do. That said, he can afford to lose the job. Others aren’t so lucky.

KatherineJaneway · 22/03/2020 21:35

I was hoping to order from there in the coming weeks

worldweary45 · 22/03/2020 21:36

My autistic daughter is distraught

We haven't been able to get any of her 'safe' foods for the last week -McDonald's was all she had left

Historically she's gone 3 weeks with no food when she was fixated on one particular food

I know in the grand scheme of things it's not important but in her world it's massive

Justme10 · 22/03/2020 21:37

@Babysharkdoodoodood I work for them as well and have just been informed even on 0 hour contracts we will be getting the 80% wages from the government. So not amazing but it's something at least Thanks

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 22/03/2020 21:37

Anyone know what KFC is doing?

My DS works there P/T and from McD I'd say the writing is on the wall for the K .

APatchyTomCat · 22/03/2020 21:40

McDs need to close. They all do.

We all need to get the message that our lives need to temporarily change, and having the mainstays close down reinforces that message.

Tumbledryer1 · 22/03/2020 21:42

Not sure this is true. I saw a similar post (same design) about them doing free kids meals and my daughter (who works there) said it’s fake news. They have closed the 24hrs only open during 7am to 10pm and my daughter has been given shifts through next week??? I do hope it’s not true or she’s out of a job!
