Sad MacDonalds is closing

SleepingStandingUp · 22/03/2020 20:51

They've announced theyll be closed by tomorrow night.
I feel sad for the thousands of staff but also for us thst we've lost another part of our lives, my DS loves MacDonalds, it's part of our aider routine and something tbsts just for us that it's gone now. Not even like we can go for one last happy meal

I hope the lovely staff can pick up work in the supermarkets

Also for people like my partner who are hgv drivers away all week then places like this can be a godsend. Even more now that the driving hours have been increased! He is lucky that he was already set up to “cook” in his cab (as in warm food up mainly) but not everyone will have that set up. Also they need to actually be able to buy food in the shops they happen to be near to be able to warm it up as obviously they can only store so much in a cab at once!

SleepingStandingUp · 23/03/2020 17:32

@tonyaster when I say it a hardship? It's another chip of the old normal gaming away. We're all aware it doesn't compare to proper real life. No one is saying " well you did 12 hours in A&E front line, what about me? I didn't have MacDonalds for tea".

Sirzy, I'm so sorry to hear Gregg's is closing and it's one of the foods your child can eat. I've serious food allergies and am panicked about running out of food that won't kill/hurt me. But at least it's just me, the fear of a child going without is far far worse.
I've had to rush introducing/testing new foods, in an attempt to get enough food. Hives aren't fun, but I had to try.

I'd be happy to help see if we can come up with alternatives.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/03/2020 17:36

@SIRZY oh bugger, us too. And yes it's obv best for the staff, but those sausage rolls are on the list of foods he'll eat. Also sad for the lovely ladies who work there who always speak to DS even if we're in the bigger store (it's a GREGGS inside a shop) as they know him by name (sister works in wider shop and my child is adorable with tunes stuck to his face, he's memorable).

Great post, DetroitLake, McDonalds is an institution and it's like anything else - teabags (I couldn't imagine), milk (unimaginable if that were to go) and any number of things that make up our day to day lives. I'm not a McD fan but I'm disquieted that it's closed because it was just 'there' and now it's not. I feel very sorry for the posters who relied on it and for the staff... so many people affected. I hope it's not long before normality is restored.

This place is full of posters whose sole purpose is to ridicule and spread misery. They're despicable, best ignored.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 23/03/2020 17:39

OP - I think you can buy frozen Greggs sausage rolls and things from Iceland? Fingers crossed that you can.

DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 17:41

Dear God not the teabags! I can cope with a lot, but not tea!

SleepingStandingUp · 23/03/2020 18:05

Ooh thanks Lying, I might go and buy some Greg's bags lol

(I’ve namechanged for this as I’ve posted about it on fb)

McDonald’s should never have announced they were closing until they had closed.

McDonald’s in my town had been jam packed all day (I can see it from my house) and currently the traffic queuing to get into it is stretched out onto the main road in and out of our town, traffic flow has stalled and nobody can get past the McDonald’s queue to get to Asda further on into the retail park.

People literally can’t get in to get their essential food shopping because selfish bastards can’t cope with the thought of no McDonald’s for a few weeks. I am so angry about this. Epic fail McDonalds. Let’s see the corona virus spike in the next fortnight.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 23/03/2020 18:28

stayhome

Apparently the queue to get into McDonalds near us snaked round 3 roundabouts and back to the motorway junction

StayHomeSaveLives · 23/03/2020 18:30

That’s disgusting. What is wrong with all those people? McDonald’s have been so irresponsible allowing this to happen.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 23/03/2020 18:31

Ds1 partner is very fed up after hearing the news

Its finally hit him i think

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 23/03/2020 18:32

That’s disgusting. What is wrong with all those people

I agree with your earlier comment...McDonalds should have just closed

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 23/03/2020 18:38

No, McDonalds shouldn't 'just have closed'. People should follow the rules of the road and not be queuing so irresponsibly. People do what is 'best for them' and that doesn't always fit in with what is best for other people.

Our local McDonalds is jam-packed most days and nights, it's a very popular takeaway. Perhaps it would have been better if McDs had given a week's notice? But then again, hindsight is always 20:20, isn't it? Armchair strategists after the event are pointless.

Tonyaster · 23/03/2020 18:39

Ds1 partner is very fed up after hearing the news. Its finally hit him i think

Sorry, Macdonald's closing has made him see the reality of the situation? That's surely not what you meant?

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 23/03/2020 18:40

Perhaps it would have been better if McDs had given a week's notice?

Im easy...just closed or weeks notice, whatever works

Or rather would have worked

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 23/03/2020 18:41

Armchair strategists after the event are pointless

Monday morning quarter back

DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 18:42

I totally agree, lyingwitch (I can't call you that! You seem nice!). This was not thought through. A week's notice, or keeping just mcd's to drive through.

This is how you get desperate people and social unrest.

Sneering is very unnecessary right now, mockers and scoffers

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 23/03/2020 18:43

tony

He’s aware

But its like lying said...McDonalds is always there

Cept it isnt ...for a while at least

StayHomeSaveLives · 23/03/2020 18:52

No, McDonalds shouldn't 'just have closed'.

Why not? Genuinely asking btw. What would be the problem with them just closing?

SleepingStandingUp · 23/03/2020 18:53

Sorry, Macdonald's closing has made him see the reality of the situation? That's surely not what you meant?
Well let's ask how old he is before we get sneery.
13? Perfectly reasonable that something like this would make hi m think OK it isn't just the old over reacting.
33? OK, sneer away.

I mean thousands of other businesses just closed. My own included.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/03/2020 18:54

Greggs and Subway too. Good job were on semi lockdown eh. My twins are part made out of Sunway breakfasts.

OP posts:
Gingernaut · 23/03/2020 18:54

Greggs, Subway and Nandos are also closing; either this evening or at close of business tomorrow.

This may be aimed at the young people who are still not isolating.

DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 18:56

I'm so sorry to hear your business closed stayhomesavelives. How are you doing?
