They've announced theyll be closed by tomorrow night.
I feel sad for the thousands of staff but also for us thst we've lost another part of our lives, my DS loves MacDonalds, it's part of our aider routine and something tbsts just for us that it's gone now. Not even like we can go for one last happy meal

I hope the lovely staff can pick up work in the supermarkets

Can we freeze McDonald chicken burger minus the lettuce, the same for Big Macs and quarter pounder burgers?

Don’t need to panic buy, teen ASD counts on them for a part of her preferred diet.

How about breakfast McMuffins, she only has one on a Saturday morning after gymnastics

GrumpyMug2 · 22/03/2020 22:26

So how comes every other takeaway company is managing?

GrumpyMug2 · 22/03/2020 22:26

Genuine question

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 22/03/2020 22:28

Lenny If you go to one tomorrow and speak to the manager I bet if your explain about your teen they may let you buy some burgers to freeze. Given the situation at the moment, I bet they’d help. Worth a try? They can only say no can’t they

Angelw · 22/03/2020 22:28

I think they only want to make use of the 80% Gov pay for their employees.
Ruthless indeed!

notangelinajolie · 22/03/2020 22:29

This is a good thing. Perhaps the young aka my 2 of my 3 DD's will now take CV seriously. Because at the moment neither of them think it's real. My other DD is very aware because she is a teacher.

WorraLiberty · 22/03/2020 22:31

You should be glad they are closing, and use the opportunity to cook some proper food.

Yes because anyone who enjoys junk food now and then, can't possibly also be cooking proper food Hmm

GabsAlot · 22/03/2020 22:32

i do feel sorry for shift workers it was their only way to get some quick food but do understand why theyre dong this

twitters gone mad maybe the younguns will take notice now

Redglitter · 22/03/2020 22:32

Starbucks & Pret have closed too.

Confuddledtown · 22/03/2020 22:33

It's sad but think they're being very responsible and hopefully other big companies will follow suit.

Although I will miss it as they dug me out of a hole this week when my online grocery delivery was cancelled and I couldn't get out with kids to do a shop, at least I had the drive through to fall back on.

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 22/03/2020 22:38

you 're offering to bring me a full shop? Proper ingredients would be rather helpful

Oopsinamechangedagain2020 · 22/03/2020 22:39

YANBU for being sad.

But they have done the right thing.

I was sad watching my children's uniform s blow in the wind yesterday; thinking they will probably need new ones by the time they're allowed back to school.

QuestionableMouse · 22/03/2020 22:40

@LennyPugGoat

I wouldn't. The chicken patties come in frozen and are then cooked. Probably not a great idea.

MigginsMrs · 22/03/2020 22:40

They’ll get the staff paid by the government.

Lockheart · 22/03/2020 22:41

The impression I've had is that Macdonald's don't have a huge delivery line of business; most of their revenue will derive from people coming to restaurants, whether drive-thru or not. This obviously raises the risk of spreading or catching the virus.

It seems places like KFC and Burger King have a bigger delivery operation in place and so it's easier for them to switch to delivery-only.

That's just my impression though.

Falacy · 22/03/2020 22:41

When I worked there 10 years ago they were already frozen. All the burgers and fries and nuggets etc. Since they're franchises you could possibly call round a few of your local ones and ask the owner if they'd be willing to donate / if they'd let you purchase a bag?

Blimeyoreilly2020 · 22/03/2020 22:43

Hmmm, certainly not critiquing your choice of food but seriously, your first concern is MacD’s the majority of whose employees, thanks to govt initiatives, will be fine financially?! I’m pretty sure they’ll be thankful to their employers for not putting them in harms way?! You’re sad for your child? Seriously wtaf?!

browzingss · 22/03/2020 22:44

Although it’s the right decision, I’m a tiny bit saddened by McDonald’s closing. For purely selfish reasons, won’t be able to order Uber eats from them and I don’t have other local takeaways.

Obviously take away wouldn’t be on my mind if idiots weren’t stripping supermarket shelves bare and grocery delivery slots were available!

Crinkle77 · 22/03/2020 22:44

God no I'm not sad.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 22/03/2020 22:45

You think a 20% pay cut of a low wage is financially fine...ok then.

Where the fuck did op say it was her first concern? Can people not talk about anything anymore?

Everytimeref · 22/03/2020 22:46

My DD was due back at McDonald's this week, Uni student, as a casual worker she won't be paid.

Daffie19 · 22/03/2020 22:48

On semi lockdown... Sounds like your DS has a lot of health issues, and should be on full lock down and isolation.
I think going without mcds and protecting his life... No brainer.

Fuss · 22/03/2020 22:48

I worked with an AS boy who would only eat mcdonalds. School lunches were a challenge.
I got a happy meal box and photoshopped school food into a mcdonalds menu. We then served him his lunch that way.
He was understandably cautious for the first few days but then accepted the special mcdonalds fish fingers etc. Gradually we removed the box until he was eating lunch with his friends normally.

I do feel for all you AS parents out there. Most won't be fooled but the suggestion of boxes is a good one. Speak to your local restaurant tomorrow., suspect they will be completely understanding and give you a few empty boxes and cups. Whatever helps to get you through.

Jaxhog · 22/03/2020 22:49

I can't help wondering if this is a cynical business decision to get the UK government to pay all the staff wages, rather than carry on a partial business model?
