Sad MacDonalds is closing

SleepingStandingUp · 22/03/2020 20:51

They've announced theyll be closed by tomorrow night.
I feel sad for the thousands of staff but also for us thst we've lost another part of our lives, my DS loves MacDonalds, it's part of our aider routine and something tbsts just for us that it's gone now. Not even like we can go for one last happy meal

I hope the lovely staff can pick up work in the supermarkets

The thread clearly talks about my 4yo and his liking it so simple logic suggests it's a treat for him.

But there are also plenty of adults you like a bit of junk food for a treat, why has a treat got to be gourmet? I can shave my truffle over my thrice roasted partridge breast any old day of the week

Your 4 year old orders a chicken pitta?? So no logic suggests you were referring to yourself! And what's with the comment about partridge and truffle shavings - p* taking is just unessasary. So anyone who doesn't agree with you about McDonald's must be a snob or 'posho' to be made fun of? Shame on you. Use this time to explore other treats. There is a whole variety of tastes out there; don't confine yourself to McDonald's.

safariboot · 23/03/2020 13:50

I read that a sizeable minority of mainly young urban professional types bought the majority of their food ready prepared and out of the house - Pret lunches, Deliveroo or restaurant dinners etc and it's all been taken away from them virtually overnight. On the bright side, they're going to save a fortune.

Except that in all too many cases, these people are living in cramped accomodation with limited cooking facilities. "To save a fortune" won't be so easy.

Nixby3 · 23/03/2020 13:53

Oops typo * unnecessary

GabsAlot · 23/03/2020 14:08

theres going to be extra food beingbought in supermarkets now because of all the cafe restuarants closing

more pressure for more suppplies

StrongMama1989 · 23/03/2020 14:33

Noooooooooooo you’re not seriously worried about Mc Fuckin Donald’s closing??? If it’s that much a part of your child’s life you need to re-evaluate his diet Hmm

TantrumsAndBalloons · 23/03/2020 14:48

Oh sorry OP I must have missed the part in your post where you said your 4 year old has eaten McDonalds for breakfast lunch and dinner for the last 4 years
I also missed the part where you said you didn’t care about anything that’s going on in the world apart from Mc Donald’s closing

Oh wait.

You didn’t say that that

@Strongmama1989 seems to have read an entirely different thread to me

FFS McDonalds is popular all over the world. There’s millions of people that eat it and enjoy it- are people actually that thick they can’t understand that?

AdobeWanKenobi · 23/03/2020 15:15

@StrongMama1989 go on. Treat yourself. Read the fucking thread.

applemango9 · 23/03/2020 15:22

I am sorry for the staffs too.

browzingss · 23/03/2020 15:49

I was ready to place an order at around 3pm but my local McDonalds stopped accepting Uber eats orders as I tried to check out. Obviously not that serious in the grand scheme but I’m a little bit sad

Sonichu · 23/03/2020 16:36

The comments didn't disappoint. Good old MN.

Casino218 · 23/03/2020 16:46

Time to eat healthier methinks. Good grief op. Seriously?

SleepingStandingUp · 23/03/2020 17:01

Read the thread Casino, I've clearly said I have a lot more serious things to consider Inc if thry ration treatment and my son gets ill if they'd overlook him because of preexisting conditions, what happens if live alone MIL needs DH to care for her and I'm left with DS and twins and get ill and have to go into hospital etc. But I'm a multifaceted individual and I still have capacity to feel sad about thousands of people losing their jobs and my son, who doesn't eat great due to a lot of operations when he was little losing a treat he enjoys to eat.

@Nixby3 well you're talking about how treats should be gourmet, obviously as someone who apparently only eats Maccies, that was about the most gourmet thing I could think of. And the mock offended vibe isn't very convincing.

Guys can you just lay off calling McDonald's please?

I've just finished work and it was absolutely fucking awful. We broke record sales for the day which shows how busy it was. We had to call the police on a couple of customers who were abusive to staff. (including calling a 16yo a cunt because she wouldn't take his snotty tissue to put in the bin)

Just leave off the name-calling. Like it or not McDonald's is a part of most communities wheatear that's through people working their or them being customers there. It is going to have an impact and calling the food shite doesn't mitigate that.

QuestionableMouse · 23/03/2020 17:10

Working there.

gingysmummy · 23/03/2020 17:11

My dh will more and likely lose his job now as McDonald's Is there biggest customer

DetroitLake · 23/03/2020 17:16

It's the breakdown of normal life, removal of day to day routine and comforts which is so disconcerting. Some people do rely on this kind of food. Truckers, homeless, poor people rely on cheap mcd's and the like. At least they do here in the US, and it sounds integral to the UK too.

Come on people. Now isn't the time to indulge in looking down on people upset at the loss of normality. I'm no cheerleader, but we really have to pull together compassionately to get through this.

teenagetantrums · 23/03/2020 17:16

So glad l had a Macdonald's breakfast yesterday...l do like a hangover breakfast.

Nixby3 · 23/03/2020 17:17

Oh my op! When I said gourmet I was being ironic!! LMAO!

SleepingStandingUp · 23/03/2020 17:20

That's shit @QuestionableMouse some people are dispicable examples of humans. We've always found the staff caring and kind, from just talking to DS like a normal kid, to patching him up when he took a tumble on the pavement outside and I brought him in screaming and bleeding. I hope those that want it manage to find alt work at this time

Sad Never mind. They'll be open again soon enough. As a diet plan I have high hopes for the next 3 weeks.

Tonyaster · 23/03/2020 17:21

If your life is still normal you are doing this wrong.

Not eating at Macdonald's is NOT a hardship.

Winter2020 · 23/03/2020 17:23

my son was feeling teary this evening (10years) so I said to my husband "take him through the drive through at McDonald's to cheer him up". That was when my husband told me it is closing. I'm sad. That's another option we don't have next time he is sad.

Thanks to McDonald's workers (sincere not sarky). take care and we'll see you on the other side x

Sirzy · 23/03/2020 17:25

For some people it is though, not everyone has the same circumstances as you.

Greggs has just announced they are shutting, and although I fully get why and support it I would be lying if I didn’t also have an “oh shit” moment because two of Ds very few foods come from there including the only one that contains any sort of fat. He has ARFID and is primarily tube fed but I’m worried what’s going to happen with his range of foods if things get restricted more.

It’s a tough time for everyone and everyone is going to find different things hard
