Lots of threads on here about people not taking CV seriously and I’m just not sure I get it.

How can you expect people to take it seriously when the government does not impose a proper lockdown?

Also lots of people sitting in judgement of those still trying to work, keep businesses open who haven’t been covered by the government’s income protection. How can you sit in judgement of people who might lose everything, who are being forced to choose between their health and their families as well as others and earning a wage to survive? Another sign the gov aren’t taking it seriously or allowing people to take it seriously.

If you want people to self isolate to protect themselves and others then you need to provide them with the income to do that and also force people to stay at home.

Im self employed and have now lost 6 months worth of work. Most people in my sector saying there won’t be work now for months. None of us covered by the measures announced yesterday. My death and even that Of my family’s is of less concern to me than not being able to survive and losing everything. It might be an unpopular view to publicly say but it’s not an unreal view.

You can only die once even if it is miserable and sometimes life is worse than death.

As long as my income isn’t protected and I’m forced to choose I will keep going out to try and find work and move around.

This is just a flu which we are not accustomed to yet

I suspect that I have had this virus. I have had flu. This wasn’t like flu. I wasn’t fighting to breathe with flu.
I wasn’t coughing so much that I couldn’t breath in with flu.

This isn’t like flu

@flirtygirl

Greyt utter bullshit that people have a choice about what job they do, when many simply do not. You are either talking from a position of privilege or ignorance.

Nope. You just don't agree with me so thrown out the ole "you are wrong and ignorant line" maybe learn how to have an actual discussion about a topic instead of resort to shut downs.

Same here. I've never been drowning in thigh mucus that was blocking my airways because it wouldn't come up when I was coughing. I've certainly never felt that I was losing consciousness. It was truly terrifying.

TotallyFucked Up Not smug at all, but bloody proud of what i have achieved, i was homeless and penniless with 3 Teenage children just before i was 40, by shear bloody hard work and going without i got out of the situation. Yes, people do make choices in life and they do need to stand by them.

cakeandchampagne · 22/03/2020 12:20

OP, I see your point.
I think many of the “haves” and the “have nots” see this crisis very differently.

NellyGrace · 22/03/2020 12:23

I get where you are coming from OP

YANBU and I agree. The most vocal ones ive seen about not being selfish and protecting everyone are ones who are more than able to work from home and have protected salaries still coming in, even when they arent at work. Hmm, v easy to lecture others when your finances are safe isn't it?

Not so easy when you are self employed and are facing literally NO money coming in at all and have mounting heating bills, food to buy, rent to pay etc...

Dont get me wrong, we should all follow government advice but I hate this "them and us" attitude, some people ARE having to chose between eating and heating their homes or protecting others from the virus and thats not acceptable. Instead of cursing at those people when youre sitting on a nice comfy nest of cash, perhaps offer to help them stay afloat so they can stay at home. But of course, noone is willing to do that...

IntermittentParps · 23/03/2020 09:36

Yes, people do make choices in life and they do need to stand by them.
lowland, genuine question: how far in your opinion do people need to go in their 'choices'? How much money do people need to put aside to satisfy you that it's enough? How many possibilities do we all need to account for for you to consider them adequate? Do you really not get that, even though people can save and 'make choices' as far as any reasonable person would, shit happens that NO ONE sees coming>
