How many people do you know who've got it?

I know of three friends of friends who've got the virus. If everyone else is the same then it suggests it's spreading quite rapidly!

None so far 🤞🏻

Casino218 · 20/03/2020 14:48

@MUMALLMIGHTY no- it's a lot more dangerous than flu. Obviously!

Figgygal · 20/03/2020 14:51

None
Not even friends of friends or random relatives

JonnyPocketRocket · 20/03/2020 14:51

2 colleagues tested and confirmed. They work in a busy maternity unit. Obviously self-isolated as soon as they had symptoms, and informed the hospital, but they'll each have come into close contact with about 30 mums and babies every day before becoming symptomatic, as well as many other members of the public and fellow HCPs.

HoldMyLobster · 20/03/2020 14:55

so scary. but then surely if you compare it to flu it is a lot less dangerous than flu i would have thought?

How have we got this far into a pandemic and yet people are still saying stuff like this?

Number3or4 · 20/03/2020 14:56

1- confirmed Aynty that lives in Sweden
Lot of suspected/ possible cases

Oliversmumsarmy · 20/03/2020 15:15

If what I had was Corona then it is flu PLUS with some very nasty side effects.

I have had flu (one of the dangerous varieties) and whilst I did think at one point I was going to die because I felt so unwell I never had a problem with my breathing.

The cough was something else entirely.

tangledyarn · 20/03/2020 15:32

It definitely feels different to flu for me (have had flu once and swine flu) the main difference for me has been breathlessness & chest pressure and pain, although have felt fluey as well. Asthma been bad but that happened with swine flu as well.

But the main difference between CV and flu is that we have no immunity to it at all, its more contagious and has a higher death rate.
Most people will be fine, its just the sheer volume of people that are going to get it in the next few weeks.

Really Frustrating to not know 100% tho. My partner has a dry cough and has felt tired and a bit rough but otherwise fine.

evilharpy · 20/03/2020 15:34

One, not confirmed but symptoms are fairly textbook. He doesn't feel too bad and is still working (from home obviously).

LittleRootie · 20/03/2020 15:40

Very interesting that people think they might have already had it late last year/early this year.

I don't know anyone with it in my area yet, there are 7 confirmed cases, one person critically ill in hospital

Redact · 20/03/2020 15:51

I know of 2 who had both been ski-ing in Italy both males, the females in the group tested negative

Whenwillthisbeover · 20/03/2020 16:27

I think it’s also fair to say that the slightest sign of symptoms has your brain going into overdrive! I have started with a cough this afternoon for
No reason and I feel a bit odd. I am now imagining all sorts of stuff going on

PieceOfMaria · 20/03/2020 16:29

My DS who is at university was quite unwell about a month ago - so much so that he missed lectures and barely left his room for a week or ten days. We put it down to a nasty cold/bug and didn't even consider Corona but I am starting to wonder now.

LapsedVeganAcademic · 20/03/2020 16:38

7 out of the 350ish people on my FB have or have had it. And 3 believe they had it in Jan or early Feb - all of whom live in a town that hosts large numbers of East Asian students.

YourVagesty · 20/03/2020 16:39

I know somebody with a two year old who has is.

Also, one of my best friends had these symptoms but months ago. It stayed in my mind because she didn't have a cold or anything but couldn't stop coughing. She said she was having trouble sleeping at night because it was hard to breathe and she had a fever. She doesn't have asthma or anything, she's never had respiratory problems.

PieceOfMaria · 20/03/2020 16:39

That's interesting Lapsed because my son is in a town with many, many Chinese university students.

zen1 · 20/03/2020 16:45

Does anyone know if those diagnosed via 111 are counted in any statistics?

Glassio · 20/03/2020 16:47

3 confirmed friends, 1 confirmed family member -all have been out and about seeing other people all week as they felt fine... now they dont!

Thisismytimetoshine · 20/03/2020 16:49

Two classmates of ds2...

AgentCooper · 20/03/2020 16:49

None personally. Three people in my work environment (university, so includes staff and students) have tested positive.

Thisismytimetoshine · 20/03/2020 16:49

How were they all confirmed if they feel fine, Glassio?

Glassio · 20/03/2020 16:50

Only hospital / actual tested cases are counted.

noisehelp · 20/03/2020 16:52

None

Oblomov20 · 20/03/2020 16:52

None.
