How many people do you know who've got it?

I know of three friends of friends who've got the virus. If everyone else is the same then it suggests it's spreading quite rapidly!

Next door neighbour but this came up by chance when her mother brought some post ‘round so I suspect maybe more and we wouldn’t know!

KayakingOnDown · 20/03/2020 20:18

I'm in NI. One confirmed case and three others (including me) who were in contact with them.

UPDATE on coronavirus (#COVID19) testing in the UK:
Most people getting test seem to be negative. Yet if these are the ill ones??

Really odd

As of 9am on 20 March, a total of 66,976 have been tested:

62,993 negative.
3,983 positive.

As of 1pm, 177 patients who tested positive for coronavirus have sadly died.

The digital dashboard will be updated later today.

MurrayTheMonk · 20/03/2020 21:11

6 suspected-cant get tested so who knows?

Nogoodnickname · 20/03/2020 21:53

2 suspected. A family member and her partner. The worst thing is that my suspected family members daughter who is 18 and pregnant, and obviously flouting the rules or seems to think that the isolation rules do not apply to her,was at her mums, who is the suspected family member,at the weekend, then proceeded to go and see my nan (her great nan),who is 84 years old and isolating for obvious reasons, because she wants to see her nan one last time before she has her baby. Well that’s just fucking great isn’t it,as long as you get to see our elderly nan, then that’s ok Angry

Vinylsamso · 20/03/2020 21:57

So basically over 5 pages on MN everyone thinks they’ve got it but only about 2 people know someone who has been PROVED to have it.
There’s a big difference between diagnosed and thinking you have /had it.

Merename · 20/03/2020 21:59

7 people isolating with pretty clear symptoms, but since our govt is ridiculous none of them will be tested anytime soon so how can we know.

Nogoodnickname · 20/03/2020 22:05

@Vinylsamso and this is exactly the problem. Community testing is not happening,so how is anyone to know if they do actually have it? This is where the problem lies,so we can only go based on symptoms.

chipsandgin · 20/03/2020 22:05

1 confirmed & 2 with full symptoms going through it theirs is not tested or reported (because you can’t). It’s ludicrous, the reality of this shitshow will be here within two weeks. For all the ‘can I go to the hairdresser’ etc etc fuckwits - shame on you.

Nogoodnickname · 20/03/2020 22:05

*were

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 22:08

Nobody. The symptoms are so generic we probably wouldn't think anything of them if we weren't constantly being reminded to worry.

RuffleCrow · 20/03/2020 22:09

Ebola. Now if you've got Ebola there's no mistaking it. Thank god that's one epidemic that was well contained.

Jenasaurus · 20/03/2020 22:13

chipsandgin I know what you mean and your comment about people going to the hair dressers rings with me as I work for an Ambulance Trust and we have been offered free haircuts! a well intentioned offer but as we are meant to be social distancing not many should take that up

Littlepeak34 · 20/03/2020 22:13

I also got I’ll just after xmas. Fever, fatigue, shortness of breath. Lasted 2weeks. Interesting as I hope I’ve already had it. My DF was similarly ill before me.

It makes sense that they were possibly many cases in uk before we even started testing for it.

Torvi · 20/03/2020 22:15

My BIL has it. He lives is USA so has been tested. Totally asymptotic after 10 days in quarantine. His wife and child tested negative although they will be bound to have it by now as they are living in the same apartment.

BellatrixLestat · 20/03/2020 22:19

Two in my family (extended and do not live near me)

From the same household, one confirmed and tested and one is his daughter, not tested but pretty obvious.

lilithxx16 · 20/03/2020 22:20

Coronavirus in children?

My 11 yr old son was very ill last weekend. 111 said it was unlikely to be coronavirus, as his symptoms were so severe. They said that the virus normally presents mildly in children. His symptoms presented in this order:
Sore, scratchy throat
High fever
Bad headache/sore eyes
Nausea/unpleasant taste in mouth
Dry cough
Chest pain

He's now on day 9, much better but still weak.
Has anyone else experienced similar?

AuntAugusta · 20/03/2020 22:36

My sister has it. She’s a nurse and caught it from a confirmed case, although she hasn’t been tested. She’s young, fit, healthy and has had the symptoms of fever, coughing, tight chest. She says effects have been mild and when I’ve called her she sounds and seems her normal self.

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 22:38

My BIL has it. He lives is USA so has been tested. Totally asymptotic after 10 days in quarantine
so how does that work then, we are told there is no immunity in the population and yet some people have the disease but no illness?

LittleRootie · 20/03/2020 23:06

I suppose it's the difference between immunity and resistance? Even with a new disease isn't there always a small number who are positive but somehow don't become ill - e.g. with Aids?

Maybe someone who understands this stuff more will come along..

sestras · 20/03/2020 23:12

I know 1 person. He tested positive after being admitted to hospital with high fever and difficulty breathing.

UYScuti · 20/03/2020 23:41

I suppose it's the difference between immunity and resistance
Yes it will be something like that won't it 🤔 I notice that the public messaging doesn't put it in those terms, rather they emphasize that there is no natural immunity and seem to imply that there will be no escape from this thread until a vaccine is found.
And all this money they suddenly have available why didn't they spend that on the NHS?
If we had a fully equipped and operational health service we wouldn't be under threat of being overwhelmed by a pandemic

nopointinstaying · 20/03/2020 23:49

I know several teachers who are self isolating (although sending photos of themselves washing the car and the like) but no one else, most people are doing the best they can.

MrsChoc · 21/03/2020 00:03

Three. One in hospital and very unwell with a confirmed case, another has had close contact with her. Managing at home and so not being tested but unwell with all the symptoms so seems likely.
The third, getting better after being really unwell with all the symptoms, but no testing so not confirmed.

Slurpy · 21/03/2020 00:13

3 in the UK (though untested), 3 in Denmark (also untested)
