What happens now? I have been told not to come in for 7 days. Have I to go back after my 7 days are up? Have I now to keep my family off? Anyone else in my position?

Am I now to stay off for another 7 days?

OP posts:
Chocolatesuprise · 16/03/2020 20:06

I believe 14 days from when the symptoms started. Our family are now in isolation for 14 days with only two of us having symptoms.
Hope you are not feeling to unwell. X

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:08

Thank you. So that will be another 8 days for me. I will get in touch obviously with HR but just wanted to know.

I am in the same position. The guidance is now to stay home for 14 days. As a teacher I don't think I'm going to be able to do that. And as there are staff at my school still going in with coughs and temperatures I'm not sure why I'm bothering to self isolate at all.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:08

That means my children are off too? and my husband? Dear god...

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:10

@houeofrabbits, you have a duty not to go in. I am a teacher too. You cannot go in spreading it to others. Do the right thing.

We are in the same boat. I started with symptoms Thursday. Now we all need to stay at home now. The other half is in panic mode about work.

Sam4040 · 16/03/2020 20:12

But yes need to do the right thing!

NothingIsWrong · 16/03/2020 20:13

Same boat here. Cough and temp started on Saturday so another wee while to go...

houseofrabbits · 16/03/2020 20:14

@neveradullmoment99 interesting you are also a teacher. I had to put up quite a fight to be 'sent' home this morning. How have your school been about it?

Triglesoffy · 16/03/2020 20:15

What are your coughs like? How often do you cough?

I have a mild cough, ie would cough a couple of times maybe 3 times a day Should I be worried?

MustStopSnacking28 · 16/03/2020 20:16

Yes me. I have a very mild cough, but of a headache. I don’t think it’s corona but obviously have no idea so DH and I are wfh for two weeks now (13 days To go...) with a nearly 2 year old. But BoJo said DH and DS can still go out eg to park (not on playground so no touching anything) as they have no symptoms as long as they stay away from people. Am I correct there!

Starferry · 16/03/2020 20:16

Same here. Sore throat last Monday and cough started Thursday. I was due to go back to work this Thursday so now another week to go and I will be keeping DD off school for the next week as well. That makes it 14 days in total for our household

milkysmum · 16/03/2020 20:16

Very few people seem to be actually following even the 7 day guidance, even less are going to do the 14 unless it's enforced. I have one staff member 'self isolating' from work who has been out visiting other family / friends. I know another whose child has developed a cough so should be self isolating, but her mum thinks this is ridiculous so she's taking her to work with her instead- we don't stand a chance of reduce spread with these wishy washy guidelines!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 16/03/2020 20:17

I have been coughing for a wk no other symptoms, surely at this point it’s not corona

Wannabangbang · 16/03/2020 20:19

Same as of today

JJPC · 16/03/2020 20:24

I called school this morning as DS has a new cough and DD a cough with a fever. I spoke with the headteacher who said not to come in and that they’ll be marked in the register as “isolation”
I was anticipating 7 days but it will now be 14. I imagine school will email to confirm this tomorrow.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:27

No. I am from Scotland. I phoned my head teacher and there were a lot of silent pauses. She sought advice from Head of education. I got a call and was told to contact HR. They told me when I should be back and that was that. I messaged the HT and I told her I wouldn't be back until the 23rd. I suppose I will now need to get in touch with HR and the HT again.

I have been coughing for 5 days. Feeling tired and a headache and as if I am about to get a cold. No temperature yet. Now all my family have to stay off.

OP posts:
TheWorstShed · 16/03/2020 20:30

Sorry to hijack, but does anyone know if a family are staying in for 14 days because one person has symptoms, does that mean we also still need to try and stay away from that family member?

I saw something that if you live alone you isolate for 7 days, 14 for a family. Is that a built in buffer?!

My efforts to stay away from DH feel somewhat pointless given that we were in close contact prior to symptoms emerging and I am still taking him food etc. He feels mostly fine.

To be clear, we are isolating as a family 14 days, that's not the bit I'm confused about - just quarantining someone in the home. NHS hasn't been updated yet.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:33

Im not sure.

Can anyone answer this? I have been self isolating for 5 days. My family haven't. Do they start from today - 14 days for them and 9 days for me?

OP posts:
Sunshine1239 · 16/03/2020 20:33

It’s not 14 days off for cough

They clarified it before

It’s 7 days for those with symptoms
For the rest of the house it’s 14 days as they say it can take 7 days for you to show signs and once symptomatic you are likely infectious for only 7 days

So if you’re already symptomatic it’s only 7 days

Even if you have cough after you can return to work as no longer infectious

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:34

Or is it another 9 days for us all. This is so confusing!

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:35

Ok, so I can go back to work in a few days?
