What happens now? I have been told not to come in for 7 days. Have I to go back after my 7 days are up? Have I now to keep my family off? Anyone else in my position?

Unless of course they get symptoms and then i will also be off longer...
See the clarification is as clear as mud.

So given that the bbc is reporting that the 14 days for household members is new as of today and this is on the nhs website (which is presumably being updated regularly given the situation), I would personally take that to mean that the nhs advice is current, even if the date hasn't refreshed.

But if you're five days in then you can always err on the side of caution and check tomorrow morning to see if it says anything different. In the meantime I've quoted what the prime minister said today which should hopefully help.

Wishing you all the best and please take care.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 21:20

Thank you. You have totally helped me and thank you for the quote :) I will check in the morning. Things are so confusing and changing quickly right now.

Aufgehts · 16/03/2020 21:24

If it helps, the dates on the nhs site have now refreshed and it says 16th of March now, so the advice should be up to date.

Sunshine1239 · 16/03/2020 21:35

Updated advice shows you go to work after 7 days if you no longer have temp but family isolates for 14 days from your first day of symptoms

Sunshine1239 · 16/03/2020 21:45

Ah I see

Bloody hell thatsconfusing and many will not have a clue following that!

Redwinestillfine · 16/03/2020 21:47

My DH has been self isolating for 5 days with a cough, I started last night. We had the kids off school today because no- one to take them in. Does this mean he can stop self isolating in 2 days, I can go out in a week but the kids need to be off for at least 2 weeks?

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 21:48

Thanks for the link. They have so least updated the information now. But it still makes no logical sense. If I lived alone I would be allowed to go out after 7 days. But if I live with other people (who are not ill) then I must wait 14 days? How does that make any sense at all?

Sunshine1239 · 16/03/2020 21:53

I’m guessing Italy to prevent them all passing it around and around

Sunshine1239 · 16/03/2020 21:54

It’s to

Aufgehts · 16/03/2020 21:55

@Greendayz No, either way, if you have symptoms, it's seven days. If no symptoms but you live with someone who has them, then it's 14 days.

According to link this is because it can take a week of being infectious before symptoms start to show (then another week after symptoms start).

comictern · 16/03/2020 21:55

Redwine, my interpretation of the NHS guidelines is that your kids only need to isolate for 14 days from when the first person in the house showed symptoms - ie another 9 days. I don't quite understand this - I guess the thinking is that if they're going to catch it, they would already have caught it from him, so they don't need a new 14 days from when you started showing symptoms. Seems odd to me though - surely it's perfectly possible that they'll get it from you but not from him, particularly if he's been trying to isolate himself from them so far?

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 21:57

It's contradictory. It says first: if you live with others and you or one of them have symptoms of coronavirus, then all household members must stay at home and not leave the house for 14 days

Then later on it says: After 7 days, if the first person to become ill feels better and no longer has a high temperature, they can return to their normal routine. If any other family members become unwell during the 14-day household-isolation period, they should follow the same advice - i.e. after 7 days of their symptoms starting, if they feel better and no longer have a high temperature, they can also return to their normal routine

Still clear as mudAngrySadWine

comictern · 16/03/2020 21:58

Here's the link to that, by the way. Scroll right down to 'ending isolation'.

alexasaymyname · 16/03/2020 22:07

As of today, it's 7 days for a person on their own, and 14 for a family, who may be incubating it. DS is currently feverish, coughing and vomiting. So not sure what it is.

alexasaymyname · 16/03/2020 22:08

14 days from the start of the first illness (family).

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 16/03/2020 22:11

The first pic is what you get when you first say you have a cough. The second pics is what it says when you click the "ending self islodation" link.

I came on to ask the same thing, then u saw this thread. I thought I'd be going back to work on Wednesday, which would be the end of my 7 days.... am I not now?? I'm a teacher too and being away from work is stressing me out as much as potentially having corona is (which I'll never know coz they're not bloody testing!)

comictern · 16/03/2020 22:17

I agree it's confusing, but I think the 'everyone' in the first pic actually means 'everyone except the person who's got symptoms'.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 22:29

NHS website updated. This is much clearer i think

if you have symptoms, stay at home for 7 days
if you live with other people, they should stay at home for 14 days from the day the first person got symptoms

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 22:31

That's my reading of it too @comicturn .I guess they've put this together in a rush. Hopefully they'll clarify it soon or more likely change it again before my week is up

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 22:33

Thanks OP. That is much clearer. And good news for most of us Smile

It has to be what they meant to say as it would make no sense to keep people quarantined for longer just because they live with a healthy person

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 22:36

I'm still really cross about the lack of testing though. I wrote to my MP about it, which is something I don't think I've ever done before. It's a huge imposition on people's lives (and employers) when many of us just have common cold. But more worryingly it's very, very easy to dismiss minor symptoms if you know that acknowledging them will bring such disruption to everyone's lives.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 16/03/2020 22:42

Ummm I also have diabetes and on steroids aaand have to have a flu jab. So according to nhs I'm supposed to be off for up to 12 weeks???

Don't think work will appreciate that!

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 16/03/2020 22:49

Our self isolation starts tomorrow. Both me and DP are teachers. Will be in tiny flat with DS 5 and DD 2! Dreading it already.
DD was sent home early from nursery due to cough. I personally think it's a cold but you cannot take any chances. When I spoke to the head before I left it was 7 days and I said that DP and I will share time off. That's obviously all changed now.
