What happens now? I have been told not to come in for 7 days. Have I to go back after my 7 days are up? Have I now to keep my family off? Anyone else in my position?

@comictern I agree with this! @neveradullmoment99 yes I think this is what the new guidance means, so we only have to stay home for 7 days. My self isolation ends on Saturday though so by then I'm sure it will have changed!

neveradullmoment99 · 17/03/2020 07:19

And then i just read this

If you live in a household with others and have a high temperature or a new and continuous cough, both yourself and all others in your household should stay isolated together for 14 days
Everyone, including if you are not displaying symptoms yourself and live in a household where no one is displaying symptoms, should stop all unnecessary contact with others and all unnecessary travel

I'm going by this. I'm on day 5 of my isolation so have 2 days left sh and dd have 9 days left unless they develop symptoms then it's 7 days from then or is a new guideline comes out. www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance/stay-at-home-guidance-for-households-with-possible-coronavirus-covid-19-infection

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 17/03/2020 10:06

My work is insisting I stay off for 14 days, even though I was the first in my household to get sick. Either they're being extra cautious or they've misunderstood they guidance. I'm a teacher so missing exam (year 11) classes, so I think it's more likely the latter Hmm

Another123 · 17/03/2020 10:27

7 days if you have symptoms. If you still have a fever after 7 days you should self isolate until it has gone.

14 days if you do not have symptoms but someone in your house does. This is the incubation period for the virus.

If other members of the household become unwell during their 14 day isolation, then they have 7 days of self isolation starting from that date.
This may mean they have to isolate more than 14 days (eg if they got it on day 10 they will have to isolate for 17 days), but can also mean their isolation period is less than 14 days (eg if they got it on day 2 they will have to isolate for 10 days).

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 17/03/2020 10:33

I know, but work are being quite arsey firm about it. I even sent a screenshot of the advice you quoted but they keep saying they are following PHE advice Hmm

Greendayz · 17/03/2020 10:38

I think that's right another Those dates make sense to me.

DD (16) has cheered me up just now. Just yesterday she was in years about having to be isolated for a fortnight. But today she has put on her best Irish outfit is dancing round her room to the Pogues and wishing everyone a happy st Patrick's Day! :)

Greendayz · 17/03/2020 10:38

That's because the advice contradicts itself shouldistay

Bufferingkisses · 17/03/2020 10:52

The guidance seems pretty clear to me? It's very simply 14 days for the whole household. No 7 days for one 14 for another nonsense. Just 14 days from the first person getting symptoms. The only deviation from that is if someone in the household develops symptoms on (for example) day 11. They will have to extend their isolation until 7 days after their first symptoms.
I don't understand what the confusion is?

This is where the confusion is: After 7 days, if the first person to become ill feels better and no longer has a high temperature, they can return to their normal routine. If any other family members become unwell during the 14-day household-isolation period, they should follow the same advice - i.e. after 7 days of their symptoms starting, if they feel better and no longer have a high temperature, they can also return to their normal routine.

Another123 · 17/03/2020 10:59

@Buffering If you click on the ending isolation link it has different advice. That's what's confusing.

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 17/03/2020 11:01

Was about to post the same thing Another
So confusing for all involved

Another123 · 17/03/2020 11:13

The 7 day isolation if you have it and 14 days if you don't makes more sense to me.

The 14 days protects others from getting infected if you aren't showing symptoms, because you don't know when you'll be infectious.

If you've had symptoms and completed the 7 days then you know you are not infectious any more. The household member who originally had it won't become infectious again so no need for them to do 14 days.

Bufferingkisses · 17/03/2020 11:13

Oh fgs, ok I get the confusion now! That's bonkers?!

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 17/03/2020 11:24

Ffs... DHs work have jsut told him if he is sick, its ssp. If hes not sick, its business as usual. If he "chooses to self isolate" he wont get paid 🙄....
I've been in isolation since Friday

Bufferingkisses · 17/03/2020 11:30

This is why it needs to be mandated. People/businesses etc just will not comply if they are not forced to. Can your dh wfh?

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 17/03/2020 11:32

He can and does usually (sales, so visits customers, only on office once per week) however as they've cancelled all customer visits, they're insisting that people work in the office... the complete opposite of all advice

Greendayz · 17/03/2020 11:36

I'd be tempted to suggest he phones them up and coughs loudly into the phone whilst insisting he's fine and well and asks if they want him in....

ShouldIStaySelfIsolated · 17/03/2020 11:44

At the moment, I'd guess they'd say yes! He does have a sniffles but I'm worried now they'd think he was lying

Bufferingkisses · 17/03/2020 12:56

Work have directed me to 111 who seem to say clearly 14 days regardless of who is the symptomatic one!

We really need clarity on this - as well as companies being told they need to start following the guidelines. A shocking number of people are not being allowed to follow them or are being told it is unpaid if they do.
