What happens now? I have been told not to come in for 7 days. Have I to go back after my 7 days are up? Have I now to keep my family off? Anyone else in my position?

Yes
You only stay off 7 days from onset of symptoms as no longer infectious after that

The family must stay off 14 days to allow for the symptoms to show

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:36

@Sunshine1239 that makes no sense. If you are symptomtic then it should be 14 days in total for that individual.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:37

Where did it say this?

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:37

Its all very unclear.

Sunshine1239 · 16/03/2020 20:39

It’s 7 days from symptoms

But experience tells them if takes 7 days for your family to show their symptoms and then they are infectious for 7 days

It was part of the press conference earlier

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:40

Ok. I did watch it but didn't pick that up from it. thanks.

I watched that and it said 14 for the whole family. I will have to do the full 14 anyway as I am a single mum so can't leave them to it for a week.

@ivbeen that's what I heard.

The 7 days advice is now incorrect. It is 14 days for everyone in the household, including the person who showed symptoms initially. This was confirmed on BBC news earlier.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:43

@houseofrabbits that is exactly what I heard. The whole family.

OP posts:
Greendayz · 16/03/2020 20:44

I think it's just 7 days if you have symptoms, as long as you're better by then (no fever in particular) The reason it's 14 days for family is that the incubation period is up to 14 days. So after 7 days you can go out, but they cannot

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:44

@Sunshine1239 I think you are actually wrong. Sorry.

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:45

That's not what is said in when I was listening to it.
It said 14 days for the whole family.

OP posts:
HesMyLobster · 16/03/2020 20:45

It's 14 days for everyone now, including the person with symptoms:

"If one person in any household starts to display symptoms, everybody living there must stay at home for 14 days."

houseofrabbits · 16/03/2020 20:46

@neveradullmoment99 I can't find a source to back this up though. Online information still seems to say 7 days?!

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 20:46

I am just so cross that they haven't got their acts together to scale up testing to cope with demand. 5 people in my household having their lives turned upside down, when I may just have a common cold. And one stepson potentially about to go around possibly infecting everyone because his mum doesn't think I have it AngryAngryAngry

houseofrabbits · 16/03/2020 20:47

@HesMyLobster where is this quote from?

milkysmum · 16/03/2020 20:48

Well this is all as clear as mud isn't it.....

NerrSnerr · 16/03/2020 20:49

@houseofrabbits i think they are the words that Johnson said in the press conference.

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 20:51

Actually it does say everyone on the BBC website. But that makes no sense. If I lived alone I could go out after 7 days. How am a any more of a risk for using non-ill family members?

TheWorstShed · 16/03/2020 20:51

Ok I am glad I am not the only one who is confused... I checked the NHS advice, not yet updated. Like who would announce something so important without having that ready?

Aufgehts · 16/03/2020 20:51

www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/self-isolation-advice/

Up to date advice from nhs.

"Anyone with symptoms should stay at home for at least 7 days.

If you live with other people, they should stay at home for at least 14 days, to avoid spreading the infection outside the home.

After 14 days, anyone you live with who does not have symptoms can return to their normal routine.

But, if anyone in your home gets symptoms, they should stay at home for 7 days from the day their symptoms start. Even if it means they're at home for longer than 14 days"

WoollyFoolly · 16/03/2020 20:51

I agree greendayz, we're in the same position. 2 of us with mild coughs and that's us all isolating for 2 weeks with no idea whether we've actually got it or not. But that's where we are

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 20:52

A press interview but it's not been backed up with anything published online. So is, as someone just said, clear as mud

houseofrabbits · 16/03/2020 20:53

@NerrSnerr he contradicted himself a few times as he also said the person with symptoms should self isolate for 7 days and everyone else in the household should self isolate for 14 days. It was later on BBC news that they clarified everyone in the household should be self isolating for 14 days but now I can't find evidence of this.
