What happens now? I have been told not to come in for 7 days. Have I to go back after my 7 days are up? Have I now to keep my family off? Anyone else in my position?

Where did your read that @aufgehts?

comictern · 16/03/2020 20:53

They clarified in the questions after the press conference. Seven days from onset of symptoms, fourteen days for others in the household.

Aufgehts · 16/03/2020 20:53

So 7 days for people already showing symptoms, 14 days for non symptomatic household members (or, if they get sick then seven days from the date they start to develop symptoms, whichever is longer).

Aufgehts · 16/03/2020 20:54

@Greendayz it's from the nhs website, i posted the link.

MrsPMT · 16/03/2020 20:54

Online info is still saying 7 days for those with symptoms and 14 for family members. Has it perhaps not been updated?

Greendayz · 16/03/2020 20:54

So BBC website has it wrong then? And it's not 14 days for the person with symptoms?

2020ismyyear · 16/03/2020 20:54

@houseofrabbits I also work in school and should be self-isolating as my son has a cough, but have been told by my head that she expects me in tomorrow unless I have symptoms myself. I literally have no idea what to do 🤷‍♀️

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:54

@Aufgehts that's old advice. It is to be updated. That was from the 13th. Look at the date on the page.

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:56

@Greendayz no, the nhs website has not been updated.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:57

@2020ismyyear your head is wrong. This is government advice.

OP posts:
Greendayz · 16/03/2020 20:57

Although as I'm only one day into my 7 days I wonder why I'm worrying. Chances are they'll have changed the rules six more times by the weekend.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:58

@Greendayz ha ha ha ha....yes, you are right!

OP posts:
cptartapp · 16/03/2020 20:58

And what happens if you get a recurrence of the symptoms down the line, or a family member does. As they're not testing you wouldn't know if you'd ever had corona the first time or not. Does everyone re-isolate in case it's the real thing every time?

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 20:59

Page last reviewed: 13 March 2020
Next review due: 16 March 2020

Basically that is at the bottom of the website on nhs. Its not been updated.

@neveradullmoment99

Yes, you're right about the date, it says 13th but my understanding was that previous advice was that only people with symptoms should isolate for 7 days. The 14 days for household members is new, this was announced today, as far as radio 4 have reported.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 21:02

Nope, its not what Boris said. [Or his scientists.]

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 21:03

The advice has changed @Aufgehts

Babysharkdoodoodood · 16/03/2020 21:05

Umm. So my husband started coughing. So that's 14 days for me?

But I've got a bit of a cough now. So is it 14 or 7?

And there's still me people who have been re-infected. So won't we just go round in circles infecting each other?

Whydoesit · 16/03/2020 21:05

I’d pulled my DC out of school this week as we all have the cough and youngest DC has the fever with it, so I guess now we’re straight into Easter holidays with the new 14 day rule.

Aufgehts · 16/03/2020 21:06

"We need to ask you to ensure that if you or anyone in your household has one of those two symptoms, then you should stay at home for fourteen days.

That means that if possible you should not go out even to buy food or essentials, other than for exercise, and in that case at a safe distance from others.

If necessary, you should ask for help from others for your daily necessities.

And if that is not possible, then you should do what you can to limit your social contact when you leave the house to get supplies."

Aufgehts · 16/03/2020 21:08

@neveradullmoment99

I'm quoting directly from the nhs website and the words of the actual prime minister as of today.

I'm really sorry that you're feeling anxious but I'm not sure what else I can do other than say "here are exact quotes from the information available" and try to help.

I don't know what else you're looking for?

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 21:10

I am not looking for anything other than clarification for someone that has already been off for 5 days. That is all.
The NHS website has not been updated.

OP posts:
neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 21:11

Boris says 14 days. So then all my family should be off and i for another 9.
The message from the NHS has changed and isnt current i.e. 13th March. It will most likely be updated tomorrow.

@2020ismyyear like @neveradullmoment99 said your headteacher is wrong. I had similar problems with my senior leadership team this morning when they suggested I didn't need to self isolate because I didn't have a temperature. The problem is it's guidelines and as of yet not legally enforceable, which makes it tricky to decide to self isolate, especially when other staff are choosing not to and senior leaders would rather you didn't. This is why schools should close!

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2020 21:12

Or they should be off for 14 days and i 9 more days.
