Think would be good to keep this thread going! Will link to the previous threads in a bit.

Waving to everyone. Well done for hanging on in there. I bought myself a load of yarn today. I have lots of projects planned. Someone very special to me seems to have the virus. I am scared. I know other friends with it and they've all had it mildly so I am reminding myself of that a lot.

CaveMum · 18/03/2020 21:40

I want to apologise for my comment on the length of time schools might be closed. I let my anxiety get the better of me.

peachgreen · 18/03/2020 21:45

@winterbear990 lovely news! Well done DS!

A positive from me - our friends came down with coronavirus late last week and are all on the mend now, including their DD who is only 1. Seems to have been unpleasant but not concerning at any point.

M0reGinPlease · 18/03/2020 21:46

@CaveMum I'm sorry for getting cross with you. The truth is I'm sat here in floods of tears. My daughter has settled into preschool so well and she will be devastated to not be going back. I'm broken hearted for her, not to mention worried about what impact this will have on her starting school, socialising. I just can't believe this it happening.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 18/03/2020 22:02

@Bloodybackpain corner shops are a perfect idea. We have lots within walking distance - my next stops when we run out of fresh food!

CaveMum · 18/03/2020 22:03

@M0reGinPlease don’t apologise please, I know how you feel. I’ve been sobbing on DH most of the evening struggling to figure out how we’re going to handle my 6yo and 3yo at home for an extended period whilst both trying to hold down our jobs and onto our sanity.

Alsohuman · 18/03/2020 22:04

Gin, your daughter will be fine. Every child her age is in the same boat and they’ll all thrive. Kids are far more resilient than we give them credit for.

winterbear990 · 18/03/2020 22:19

@peachgreen Thank you for your post! I love hearing accounts like that. We only hear the negatives in the media. I hope your friends feel much better soon Smile

DaffodilThatch · 18/03/2020 22:23

@M0reGinPlease @CaveMum I'm also concerned about this, mainly because my daughter is late summer born (my baby is too - poor planning!). I'm not sure how ready she is for Reception, and missing out on preschool doesn't help! But all the kids are in the same boat on that front. I'm sure they will be fine.

I think I'm more worried about keeping her entertained. She absolutely hates it when I try to teach her anything (apparently she knows everything already).. so I probably won't even try unless she asks me to. I think I'll be buying Frozen 2 this weekend Blush

We’re planning on signing up to Disney Plus before their offer ends this weekend!

Rassy · 18/03/2020 22:37

@winterbear990 Glad to hear your friends are on the mend. DH's sister came down with it on Saturday and today feels she is over the worst

Rassy · 18/03/2020 22:38

Whoops meant @peachgreen !

Positive news story from sky tonight re a possible new treatment for those badly effected. Sounds like they have quite a few options in the pipeline which is promising.

Imagine the amount of hugely clever and dedicated people working behind the scenes on this now.

We will get through this.

marmitecheesetoast · 18/03/2020 22:50

@CaveMum @M0reGinPlease @DaffodilThatch I’m feeling the exact same here re my DD’s nursery. I feel so anxious this evening I have the feeling of something stuck in my throat and keep bursting into tears. it’s so sad that today was her last day at nursery though she doesn’t know it yet, she absolutely loves going. She’s due to start school nursery in September, I just hope she does get back to her current nursery before finishing completely.
I’m doubly worried about this as I’m pregnant due no2 in June and everything about introducing a new baby says about how important it is to keep older siblings’ routine! Also feeling gutted about no rest on maternity leave before baby comes now nursery closed!!!
And of course worrying about how to manage work and no childcare. I don’t work Thursday and Friday normally so don’t have to worry about figuring out a plan too much til the weekend. DH and I going to sit down and devise a detailed weekly plan so with who will work when and who will do childcare when and hope that will help me feel a little more in control. Guilty Mother Club has a great looking free resource on her website for planning just this incase that’s of use to anyone!

Thanks for the tip on Headspace app I’m going to download it now!

I’ve also found an online pregnancy yoga class which is doing a live class via Zoom tomorrow night so going to give that a go!

With all the bollocks and doomladen stories on Facebook, I have been shamelessly stealing titbits from these threads to try and inject some optimism out there. I've stopped short of posting a link because (a) it's "our" safe space and (b) I may have outed myself at some point Grin

peachgreen · 18/03/2020 22:55

Me too @stcharlotte! Grin

peachgreen · 18/03/2020 22:58

@marmitecheesetoast I totally understand why you're feeling so upset - I'm gutted about DD's nursery for similar reasons, she just loves it. As this is the positive thread I'll try and find some positives for you... Your DD is going to be getting more of Mummy's attention than ever so that will help her feel even more secure and loved for when the baby arrives. Having you in the house but not accessible at times (ie when you're working and your DH is on childcare duty) will teach her that sometimes Mummy is around but doing other things and she has to wait for her - a great skill for when she has a sibling! And it will be lovely having your DH home as you get to the later stages of pregnancy. Flowers

Some posted a link on Facebook to the bios of several of the senior Government advisors and their CVs are very reassuringly long!

Sir Patrick Vallance - www.gov.uk/government/people/patrick-vallance
Prof Chris Whitty - www.gov.uk/government/people/christopher-whitty

CaveMum · 18/03/2020 23:03

If you need distraction there’s a great thread in AIBU where people are posting links to their favourite music videos.

DaffodilThatch · 18/03/2020 23:03

@CaveMum DH literally just signed up Disney Plus because of that deal, I imagine they'll be doing a roaring trade! I wonder if Frozen 2 will be on it. Have to admit here, it's not just DD, I really want to see it too!

@marmitecheesetoast aw that's a lot to deal with. I'm lucky that I'm on mat leave now, otherwise DH and I would both be juggling WFH and looking after the kids. A schedule sounds like a good plan, hopefully it won't be too long to settle into. I definitely think you should get DH to give you some alone/ rest time before the baby arrives! I'm sure your older one will be fine, just takes a bit of getting used to!

@daffodil I did read that they were planning on bringing the streaming of Frozen II forward specifically because of all the households going into isolation!

HonestlyItsFine · 18/03/2020 23:33

Reading their "CV's" gives me some more faith in them advising Boris.
Especially since Prof Chris Whitty is an actual epidemiologist.

It's almost the end of the day- we're one day closer to this madness being over.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who comes on this thread and posts anything it's such a nice relief to just hear normal stuff, I'm petrified and scared and feel very overwhelmed but this thread gives me hope that we will all be okay.
My kids keep asking to go out so I've ordered them some art bits. I also love reading about all the positive stuff with treatments.
I don't know what will happen in the next few weeks but I think as long as we have this thread and keep popping on daily giving us some respite from negativity elsewhere, the time will fly fast until this passes.
Good night everyone Smile
