Non essential social contact is a bit subjective - after school clubs, extracurricular activities, sports activities that kids attend, parents evenings. Are these non essential?

Someone will no doubt have replied to this, but OF COURSE these are non essential!!!!

Essential is food shopping, picking up medicines.

HeronLanyon · 16/03/2020 17:27

Shocking advocacy Just when we need clarity - that should have said. So angry can’t type. Off to wash hands.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:27

Not listing what conditions they actually mean is a total joke.

Esptea · 16/03/2020 17:27

I'm an asthmatic teacher - regular steriod inhaler but never worse than needing an additional course of prednisolone when I've got a chest infection. Am I self isolating?

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/03/2020 17:28

Agree about who press conference. Authoritative and clear.
@HeronLanyon you are being sarcastic aren’t you?
With the wishy washy avoid pubs etc CLOSE THEM!

Justmuddlingalong · 16/03/2020 17:28

Seriously? I really don't see how much more clearly the information could have been delivered by any of those three individuals.

Yes, @Lily193
I'm struggling to take all the points in. I'm trying to understand what advice my household should take, work commitments and advice for my extended family who's health and age puts them in a very vulnerable position.
I hope you have more bog roll than you seem to have compassion. 🙄

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 17:28

dippy

I strongly agree... In terms of school we have been under immense pressure to send sick dc. Bullied into it.. At work many bosses don't believe in this l!

They are not sending people home, people are not sending themselves home.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:29

@TwelveIslands But it does need to be spelled out.
Basically this is a load of shit that tries to make it seem as if they are doing something, without any action to actually make it happen.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 16/03/2020 17:29

So it doesn't say people in vulnerable groups should isolate for 12 weeks it says they/we should avoid social contact

From sky news....

"Mr Johnson said measures would be escalated once again in the next coming days, when those with the most those with the most serious health conditions would be told to ensrue they are "largely shielded from social contact for around 12 weeks"

When it says "most serious" I would assume asthma is not on that list....which.means I will still be expected to go into an office with 1000 people coughing all over the fucking place...Brill!

BackInTime · 16/03/2020 17:29

@TwelveIslands If schools are still open and running these things, then there is nothing to say that kids shouldn't attend.

Msloverlover · 16/03/2020 17:29

@Esptea are you normally offered a free four vaccine? If so, yes.

Msloverlover · 16/03/2020 17:29

Sorry *flu

HeronLanyon · 16/03/2020 17:30

mydc Confused

aLilNonnyMouse · 16/03/2020 17:30

I'm deaf so I wasn't able to watch it as no proper subtitles. Can someone please sum up the info. I have uncontrolled asthma and my partner has pulmonary fibrosis so I really need to know what to do.

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:30

@Justmuddlingalong There are a number of posters in here that will defend Boris and the government around their approach to this virus no matter what they say or do. Boris could swear on camera and they would simply deny it.

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 17:31

EspteA.

As an Internet random, I would strongly advise anyone with breathing issues to minimise your own risk, stay at home etc.

Chris witty himself highlighted the 2 tier deaths...

Delatron · 16/03/2020 17:31

Oh god this is so annoying. What exactly is non essential social contact? I would assume a birthday party is but I’ve just had the mother sending round food choices for this weekend. I don’t want to be the one to tell her she should cancel.

It’s so wishy washy.

I run a fitness business. Mainly private clients. Is that non essential social contact? I guess it is so I need to cancel all my clients. I wish it was clearer though.

blubellsarebells · 16/03/2020 17:31

I work in a restaurant. 130 covers, weekend was still busy, today less so.
Im terrified by how oblivious most people are.
My anxiety is through the roof being in close contact with so many people every day, i dont have the option to work from home.
Im hoping after this more people will stay away so we can close.
Fanancially it will be a struggle but im sick with anxiety over this whole situation.

BackInTime · 16/03/2020 17:31

@Justmuddlingalong It really does nothing to make things clear. It's all too vague and people will interpret what is being said differently because of this the measures will not work.

DuckWillow · 16/03/2020 17:32

The numbers are nowhere near flu

But they have the potential to be far higher as currently no vaccine for COVID-19 exists.

That said I think the UK Govt are in a better position to look at best management as we are behind other countries and can see what has worked in those countries and what hasn’t been effective.

“Mass gatherings” needs clarifying, what are we talking about? 100 people, 200, 500. 2000, 5000 etc.

Schools don’t necessarily need to close. I work in a school and while we do have people out and self isolating we haven’t had many cases in the county. Most of my class were there today and most staff in.

I’d like to see what they mean about social contact too ...what is necessary and what isn’t. Especially if bars and pubs are staying open while the public are being told to stay away,

Ventilatorshortage · 16/03/2020 17:32

All and similarly could be said of corbyn... Corbyn would be listening to the same advisors.

TailSpinIntoInsanity · 16/03/2020 17:32

I am a Health Care worker (thank fuck, not in A+E, in a lower risk environment). I'm also mildly asthmatic.
What do I do? I'd be glad to take 3 months unpaid leave about now... am lucky enough that I have some savings.

Orangeblossom78 · 16/03/2020 17:32

Does contact with e.g. staff on tills in shops / leisure centres count?

alloutoffucks · 16/03/2020 17:32

Anyone who has the choice to keep their kids home and isn't, really is not paying attention to what is happening.

StillDisappointed · 16/03/2020 17:33

Boris is a complete cunt.

He hasn't got the minerals to impose a lockdown like every other bastard country, so he leaves it to the public to make their mind up.
Hasn't shut the pubs, theatres etc but has told people not to go. It's such a feeble, yellow-bellied plan.

People like my poor dad (who's in his late 50s) are going to be even more fucked. Self-employed in a job where it's physically impossible to work from home.
He's a cab driver in London, people have been dwindling and he's been waiting hours between jobs. Now London is going to be even emptier but because there's no actual lockdown, and he doesn't need to self-isolate he can't claim anything to help him through.
How are people like him meant to survive? I'll help as much as I can obviously, but even I can't do much.

That cunt has made such a balls up. I'm fuming.
