@Helenj1977 - I found all the data on Wikipedia (but had to do a bit of work to get into a spreadsheet). You can broadly compare the case numbers in Italy with those in UK 14 days later - see picture. But I'm not sure about comparing case numbers, as that depends on testing regime, so is only a fraction of infected.

Thank you for that info Ruddy

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 18:32

Matt Frei - 'Italy records 368 new deaths in one day. Worse than the deadliest day in Wuhan.'

Jay135 · 15/03/2020 18:34

368 deaths in one day in Italy. Wow. 24000 plus cases. Scary shit this

LambriniSocialist · 15/03/2020 18:34

DadDadDad

Thanks for that too. As you say comparing cases is not as helpful because we don't know how many were tested, but still a useful thing to see.

DadDadDad · 15/03/2020 18:34

Probably better to compare deaths.

If we do follow Italy’s path things will look very scary here in the next 2 weeks. In order to prevent this surely we need to act now and not in a week or so’s time?!

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 18:35

Thousands were apparently at the Brentwood half Marathon today.

LambriniSocialist · 15/03/2020 18:35

So according to that info Italy had 34 deaths from 1694 cases and UK has 35 deaths from 1372 cases... But again we don't know the true number of cases do we?

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 18:36

And junior football teams travelling all over Essex.

Jay135 · 15/03/2020 18:37

I guess neither did Italy Lambrini.

OhMargo · 15/03/2020 18:37

The majority of the demographic on MN will not contract the virus.

But if they are idiots, their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and other relatives and neighbours might/will contract it from them.

This is a serious pandemic. But what else can I say really.

Take care of your loved ones .

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 18:37

We won't lock down till 5k deaths - and by then 30k will be dead by easter.

Motorina · 15/03/2020 18:38

Are medical staff adequately protected?

Very behind the thread, so apologies if this has already been replied to.

No. No, we're not. Source: I'm a HCP. I and my team have been told to do non-urgent aerosol-generating (i.e. very high risk) clinical proceedures on patients with active cold and flu symptoms, and without the PPE regulations require.

My team are half an inch off open rebellion and walking out en masse. The opinion of all of us is we are totally happy to continue treating patients with acute symptoms without appropriate PPE, inspite of the risk, but we are not willing to put our health on the line to do routine procedures that could wait without any harm in order to maintain a semblance of normality.

bananacakeZ · 15/03/2020 18:38

mrshoho thank you

todayisnottuesday · 15/03/2020 18:38

I found all the data on Wikipedia

@DadDadDad - Please don't do that, or think spreadsheets from that will show anything useful. They won't, and it's really unhelpful to print stuff like that.

LambriniSocialist · 15/03/2020 18:39

I'm going to be looking at that death chart every day from now on...! Have got to try and keep a lid on things and keep calm!

1happyhippie · 15/03/2020 18:41

What makes you think that @Angryrant55
5k dead is a hell of a lot before a lock down!

IrmaFayLear · 15/03/2020 18:42

Is that Irish bloke's stuff on the last page accurate or scare-mongering? I feel sick reading it. It's as if we're completely doomed.

LuxLFC · 15/03/2020 18:42

@ruddydogg all sold out!

Angryrant55 · 15/03/2020 18:48

Just how much it will surge and how little many in the uk care about it.

Even if we lock down next weekend 5k by April 1st is unstoppable.

marbler · 15/03/2020 18:49

Watching the news on BBC now and very anxious about that inevitably happening to UK

Can I ask that you all sign this petition please?

bananacakeZ · 15/03/2020 18:50

I'm wandering about sending DC to school tomorrow. We have done social distancing, stayed in the house voluntarily over the weekend. Would be sending them to school with DC of others who haven't. So our social distancing is then pointless?

BeijingBikini · 15/03/2020 18:51

One of my relatives is a doctor in the Netherlands, in a speciality which involves them being right in patient's faces, many of which are on immuno-suppressive drugs. Someone has nicked all their masks from the hospital. They're cancelling all non-essential and non-emergency operations. Horrendous. Who the fuck steals from hospitals!

She also said there's clearly evidence that it was circulating in the community way before people thought it was. Someone was hospitalised for pneumonia back at the start of Feb - tested positive for CV. Apparently he hardly left his house, he was a gamer who sat indoors all day, didn't travel anywhere. It's clearly rife.
